Summer Dressing

June 27, 2012

Summer dressing for me literally revolves around dresses. For a lazy dresser which I admittedly am, the ease and comfort can't be beat. I'm also a modest dresser which means none of my dresses hit above the knee. I actually prefer midi lengths cause they're the most flattering and lengthening on me. No, I'm not petite in height. Since it doesn't seem to be a popular length, I'm generally on alert when any cute midi styles go on sale. I added these three to my closet recently and they're already in rotation since the summer weather is on in NYC. I ordered them all online for $48.99, $29.99 and $10.99 respectively. They all fit so it worked out pretty well. Any other fans of dresses in the summer?

So I realize that it's been over a week since my last post. I didn't mean to go MIA but some stuff has been going on. Being healthy really seems to be a challenge lately. I'm pretty much recovered from my previous illness though there are still occasional lapses of vertigo and/or tinnitus. At least I have some idea of the triggers now and how to avoid them. While I was dealing with this condition, I didn't even realize that there was an issue developing with my left shoulder and arm which has turned into something that can be simply termed as frozen shoulder. It is what it sounds like and I've been experiencing pain and a loss in range of motion. I started physical therapy recently and I'm trying to work through this now. At this point I kind of just want to fast forward through this year and be well again.

Eye Candy : Li Bing Bing for Harper's Bazaar

June 19, 2012

Li Bing Bing goes retro glam in this Olympic themed editorial photographed by Feng Hai in London for Harper's Bazaar China. The Snow Flower and the Secret Fan actress who is currently a jury member at the Shanghai International Film Festival will be making a return to London this summer where she is representing China in the torchbearer relay at the Olympics and also serving as an ambassador for Chinese cultural exchange. She hits the screens this fall as Ada Wong in Resident Evil: Retribution. I'd previously expressed my opinion on this. While I'm hardly enthused about the films since they center around a character who isn't even in the games which I'm a big fan of, I am totally anticipating the release of the next Resident Evil game in October. The trailer looks fantastic.

Eye Candy : Daniel Henney for Elle

June 13, 2012

Daniel Henney chills out in this editorial entitled "Still Life in LA" for Elle Korea. The comely Korean American actor/model made his acting debut as Dr. Henry Kim in My Lovely Sam Soon which was one of my first and still favorite Korean dramas. While his acting was less than stellar in that production, he still managed to make quite an impression on many viewers. Some of you might recognize Henney from his role as Agent Zero in X-men Origins: Wolverine or the short-lived CBS series Three Rivers. His new film Shanghai Calling has been hitting the festival circuit lately. The romantic comedy about American expats adjusting to life in Shanghai even won him an "Outstanding Achievement Acting" award at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Doesn't that pool look spectacular?

Chanel's Little Black Jacket In New York

June 11, 2012
SONG HYE KYO

This weekend I paid a visit to The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited which is the accompanying exhibit celebrating the forthcoming book of the same name. Making it's second stop in New York after opening in Tokyo, the show features over 100 photos lensed by Chanel's Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld of various stylish global celebrities and models paying tribute to the fashion house's famed LBJ. It was fun to see the iconic black tweed jacket styled by former French Vogue Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld in both classic and some really unexpected ways.

I liked how a selection of photos were blown up and presented in tonal color on the facing elevated wall. What's more they also offered three complimentary prints to take home if you were so inclined. The exhibit is being hosted at the Swiss Institute at 18 Wooster Street and makes it's run through June 15 in NYC before it moves onto Taipei. It was really hard to choose favorites but I particularly liked the Song Hye Kyo and Vanessa Paradis images. Here are some others I found compelling.

To see more, visit the virtual gallery on the project's official website where you can also watch a video that details the amazing production process of a Chanel jacket.

Eye Candy : Kitty Zhang for Elle

June 7, 2012

I love the feminine fashions and the beautiful backdrop in this editorial featuring actress Kitty Zhang Yuqi for Elle China. There seems be a slight disconnect with the photos inside the car but the lighting is gorgeous and she looks so luminous that it gets a pass. I have so many editorials saved up from when I was ill that maybe I'll just post a bunch of them in a row.

Through My Lens : Recently

June 5, 2012
A glimpse of my life recently in photos. I did get the J. Crew Lula Glitter Flats that I was coveting, finally settling on the metallic graphite color. They're super sparkly in person. Unfortunately they're only available online but they're quite comfy and fit true to size if you care to know.
This special edition Hello Kitty x LadurĂ©e box is so cute! We tried the seasonal flavor ~ chocolate and kalamansi which is a bitter orange. It was a lovely combination. You can avoid the crowds at LadurĂ©e if you go there at 10:00 in the morning.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes in Amused and Exposed are my favorite blushes of the moment. I just love their pigmentation and staying power. Amused is a bright and wearable pink and Exposed imparts a really nice natural glow.
