Shop for a Cause : Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. You can show your support by buying pink products that benefit BCA charities but make sure you do so carefully since not all pink products are created equal. Some products are merely branded pink and don't actually make any type of contribution towards the cause or if they do, it may not be as much as you think. While it's admirable for companies to raise awareness and make any type of donation to help fight breast cancer, I wanted to specifically spotlight products in which at least 50% or more of the proceeds from the sales will actually go to benefit BCA charities.

Check out the infographic below for some staggering statistics and advice on how to lower your risk of developing breast cancer. It was created by Julep in partnership with The Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation.

It's great when companies do this for BCA. More companies should really be doing 50% or more. Those Puma shorts are too cute, and 100% goes to BCA! Can't get any better than that!

Hi Rowena, is an important topic and is a shame some products are branded pink but dont make any type of contribution. The items you shared are even so pretty, the Eos balm and the bow bracelets are my fav. Have a lovely week ahead my dear, kisses! xo

The stats are shocking! I think each of us know of someone (whether close or not), who has suffered from breast cancer and its so important to support the cause. You have picked out some great items, the palettes are pretty and that bracelet is stunning.

The statistics for breast cancer are still so staggering. It's amazing and so sad. It's important that research continues and preventive care continue. Great items Rowena! I'm so glad companies are contributing more and thanks for the shout out. Have a great week.

Loving the picks darling and for such a great cause. It's pretty shocking those stats, although it's not much better here either, with rising cases for women under 50. Thank God for such support & continuous research. I just hope when they do create something, that it'll be available for everyone... and that it's not ridiculously priced.

I am very passionate about this subject because, as I leant during my studies, a lot of cancers can be reversed even before they develop just by certain diet and lifestyle changes. I've written about them back in 2011 and always admire companies who make an effort to change something (as long as those companies don't add parabens and aluminium to their products)

It is good to raise the awareness. I love that you mention that not all pink products are necessarily related to the campaign, it seems like people often miss this fact.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I agree with you on the contribution of sales which should be higher than 50%.

Obviously anything that helps breast cancer charities is a great cause but I like that you have highlighted how some companies just jump on the bandwagon. Personally I think I will make a little donation directly this year instead of buying pink xo

I like the pink shorts a lot and the bow bracelet is cute. I always shake my head at the companies {cosmetics mostly} with breast cancer awareness products that use ingredients thought to cause breast cancer. It doesn't make sense.

I like it when companies join in the fight for good causes and yes, it would be good to know that more of their proceeds go to the actual funding for research or any ways to help the cause. I'm liking the t shirt and shorts combi. We don't really have very huge campaign and awareness here in my country when it comes to the commercial sector or probably I haven't really been out to the malls much to this month to know. Thank you for sharing.
