Color Love : Burgundy

September 30, 2013

A perennial favorite fall color of mine is burgundy. There's something about it that just feels so luxurious and sophisticated and right for the season. Are you a fan of burgundy? What colors do you like to pair it with? I personally think it looks amazing with grey and lavender.

Eye Candy : Li BingBing for Vogue & Cosmo Bride

September 27, 2013

I decided to post these two editorials together since they both feature the lovely Li BingBing. I also really like the contrast of seeing them juxtaposed. It feels as if the actress has been cast in two roles as she goes from urbane sophisticate in front of Chen Man's lens for Vogue China to a vision of soft romanticism for Cosmo Bride China. She looks equally ravishing in both. I really like the overall mood and styling of the Vogue China pictorial and am utterly stunned by the dreamy dresses in the bridal one especially the backless one in the second photo. What do you think?

Style Crush : Vicki Zhao Wei

September 25, 2013

Vicki Zhao Wei was the picture of ladylike chic at the recent opening of the Esprit Dior exhibition at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art. The Chinese actress was resplendent in a look from the Fall/Winter 2013 collection that featured a black dress topped with a draped bib like overlay and an asymmetrical bow detail at the hip. The architecturally feminine silhouette evokes the glamour of classic Christian Dior with a modern stroke and her simple accessories lend the perfect touch. What do you think of this look? See a video of the gala launch and take a tour of this impressive exhibit.

Dine Out : En Japanese Brasserie

September 23, 2013

Since it's situated deep in the West Village, I don't get there all that often but I do enjoy a leisurely lunch at En Japanese Brasserie where the midday dining options during the week include a variety of lunch sets ranging in price from $15 to $38. While it may not be the cheapest lunch in town, the sleek cavernous space with high ceilings and sizable windows offers a pleasant backdrop while the sides included in the sets add tangible and tasty value. Miso soup and mizuna & watercress salad with ponzu dressing are the standard accompaniments but the real winner is the restaurant's specialty dish, a side of fresh soft tofu (made every hour) topped with wari-joyu, a mixture of soy sauce and fish broth. As someone who happens to really like tofu, I'm not exaggerating when I say that the tofu alone makes eating here worthwhile. It is easily the best tofu I've ever tasted. The texture is smooth and creamy with an almost custard-like consistency while the delicate soy bean flavor is perfectly accentuated by the hints of sweetness in the sauce.

Eye Candy : Han Hyo Joo for InStyle

September 20, 2013

Han Hyo Joo gets into the spirit of the new season, looking lovely as she models a range of fall fashions from classic to funky in this editorial lensed by Hong Jang Hyun for InStyle Korea. Somehow she even makes pink camouflage work. I read recently that her Brilliant Legacy/Shining Inheritance co-star Lee Seung Gi named Hyo Joo as the actress with whom he shared the best chemistry among all those that he's worked with and he also expressed a desire to team up with her again on a new project. I hope someone's listening and makes this happen because they were totally adorable together in that drama and I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who thinks so.  I wouldn't even mind seeing them guest on Running Man together. Actually I'd love that. And I love the movement of her hair in the above photo.

Shoe Crush : Nike Air Pegasus 83

September 18, 2013
Nike Air Pegasus
I've been mildly obsessed with this pair of NIke Air Pegasus 83 sneakers since spotting them for the first time in the J. Crew fall catalog last month. These limited edition reissues actually look alot like the Nikes I sported as a kid only in a much cooler color combo. Hello metallic swoosh! I'm midway through physical therapy sessions for my ankle now and realistically, I doubt I'll be able to go back to my regular shoes for awhile even after I'm done. I ordered these on Monday and boy am I glad I didn't wait any longer cause they're almost sold out. I plan on styling my new kicks with skinnies and cropped tapered pants/cords. So my question is, do you wear sneakers/trainers other than while working out?

Through My Lens : Recently

September 16, 2013
So I may have problems with walking at the moment but at least I can still take photos.
I picked up this Marc Jacobs Beauty Nail Lacquer 142 Fluorescent Beige last week at Sephora and I'm already smitten.
I suspect it will be making an appearance in my next Recent Loves feature and I'll talk more about it then.

Eye Candy : Daniel Henney for Cosmopolitan Men

September 13, 2013

Daniel Henney makes a denim shirt and jeans look seriously good on the cover of this month's Cosmo Men Korea supplement. He heads outdoors to hang out with rock group Royal Pirates for the editorial. It's been said that band member James who is in the third photo below with Daniel is his doppelgänger but I'm just not seeing it. Are you? The 33 year old American actor who is half Korean can currently be seen in the Korean action comedy film The Spy but he may look familiar since he was a regular on the short lived CBS series Three Rivers and has also appeared on Hawaii Five-0 as well as portraying Agent Zero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The casual wear he models is from Korean clothing brand Beanpole which is owned by electronics giant Samsung. I'm loving the hooded trench coat. I still recall the charming commercials Daniel and Gwyneth Paltrow used to appear in for the line. Here's one of them. Love how Mono's Slimcea Girl is playing in the background.

Pinteresting Things : NYFW Spring 2014 Street Style

September 11, 2013
Giovanna Battaglia makes a bold black + white statement in Céline

I sometimes find the street style of New York Fashion Week to be almost as interesting as the looks coming down the runways. I've been pinning my favorite looks onto my Style Files board on Pinterest. These are standouts for me because they're chicly elegant and effortlessly stylish. It may not be a coincidence that they're on the modest side as well because as far as I'm concerned, it's never fashionable to reveal too much skin. Do any of these looks speak to you?

Cook : Sesame Noodles Recipe

September 9, 2013

Sesame noodles is one of my go to dishes for picnics because it's flavorful and holds up well while being light yet satisfying. It's also super simple to make with ingredients I pretty much always have in my pantry. This is fantastic as a side dish or a main. I like to serve it for dinner sometimes along with my Taiwanese cucumber salad as a quick and easy vegetarian meal.

Eye Candy : Lee Min Jung for Elle

September 6, 2013

Newlywed Lee Min Jung looks lovely in an array of beautiful bridal creations in this wedding themed pictorial lensed by Kim Yong Joon for Elle Korea. The pretty actress wore a voluminous strapless lace gown from the Marchesa Bridal FW 2013 collection when she married actor Lee Byung Hun last month in a star studded ceremony with 900 guests held at the Seoul Grand Hyatt Hotel. This was actually considered modest since celebrity weddings in Asia typically boast twice the number of guests. In the accompanying interview, she opens up about dating and marriage, revealing how Lee Byung Hun professed his love to her in a special video clip following a private screening of his film Red 2 before showing up in person to propose to her in the presence of both their families. How sweet! Congratulations to the happy couple!

Fresh Sugar Petal Tint Lip Treatment : This has all the benefits including the delicious lemon scent of the regular Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment which I adore with the addition of a sheer wash of color. I wasn't sold on any of the other tints that this comes in until the petal came along. The warm nude pink shade it imparts is just lovely and totally foolproof. It's like the perfect lips but better color.

Zoya Remove Plus Nail Polish Remover : This nail polish remover effectively removes my nail polish even the glitter ones without stripping or drying my nails while leaving behind conditioners that prep them. It also gets points for a light lavender scent and an easy to use spill proof pump dispenser.

Kusmi BB Detox Tea : I love Kusmi teas and this is my current favorite. Good skin starts from the inside out and this green tea blended with maté, rooibos, dandelion and a hint of grapefruit is full of antioxidants that boost immunity and toxin removal. It smells really amazing and has a light fruity taste that is both pleasant and invigorating. I drink at least 3 cups a day and I seriously wouldn't mind a fragrance scented like this tea.

Have you tried any of these products? And do tell if you have any recent loves.

Style Crush : Sandra Bullock

September 2, 2013

Sandra Bullock kicked off the 70th Venice International Film Festival in fine style. The actress who usually prefers low key LBD's was a major head turner in a vibrant sorbet color block Alex Perry Resort 2014 halter sheath dress at the photo call for her new film Gravity. She kept it simple, accessorizing with nude and gold Giuseppe Zanotti strappy heels. I think this silhouette is so fresh and modern. She wears color well and looks incredibly radiant. It's hard to believe she's 49. And how great do she and co-star George Clooney look together? I know they're just friends but they should totally date. What do you think of this look? And this pairing?
