Happy Holidays

December 23, 2015
I just wanted to wish everyone the happiest of holidays and thank you for the time you you've spent with me here throughout the year. Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, the holiday season is one that brings family and friends together. During this season of giving, let us take time to slow down, enjoy the simple things and the company of loved ones. I'll be off doing this so I'll see you back here in the new year.

Exuviance Firm-NG6 Non-Acid Peel

December 21, 2015
Non Acid Peel

We had an amazing time on our recent Curacao vacation but the change in weather and strong sun there really did a number on my skin. Upon our return, my face looked dull and tired and the sun totally aggravated the appearance of my freckles and gifted me with some unwanted sunspots. Fortunately I had this Exuviance Firm-NG6 Non-Acid Peel waiting for me to try when we got home and it was just what I needed. This product comes from the company that created the original Glycolic Acid Peel and it is formulated as a  safe, acid-free formula that is gentle enough for all skin types. I've used a number of different glycolic acid peels before and they're great for cell renewal which improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture while evening out discolorations.

About the Brand: Exuviance was created by Doctors Van Scott and Yu, widely recognized as leaders in the field of cosmetic dermatology. They discovered the anti-aging benefits of Glycolic Acid and created and patented the first Glycolic Peel. Exuviance has continued to develop many new patented anti-aging ingredients backed by evidence from numerous scientific and clinical studies. Recognized around the world, Exuviance formulas are expertly developed to visibly transform skin by combining their patented innovations with the best, state of the art technologies available in dermatology today.

Product Claims: New Exuviance Firm-NG6 Non-Acid Peel is formulated with NeoGlucosamine to increase cell turnover and exfoliation for all the benefits of a peel with the potential for irritation. More than just your average peel, this leave-on, no-rinse formula, appropriate for all skin types, plumps skin matrix to increase volume and helps firm and tighten skin while exfoliating to reduce pigment and brighten skin.

Recent Loves : Hair

December 18, 2015

So it's been awhile since my last recent loves post and I realized that I don't talk about hair products that much so I wanted to share a few that I have been using and really liking lately. My hairstyle has been some form of a bob or a-line bob for a number of years now. It suits me and my preference for low maintenance hair.

Tech Gift Guide

December 16, 2015

Next to beauty gifts, my favorite type of gift to receive would be tech gifts. They' can be practical and fun and this works out well since my husband really enjoys giving tech presents. <I mean who doesn't love gadgets that make life easier. And there are so many well designed options these days. Are you a fan of giving or receiving gifts of technology?

1. Ringly Smartphone Connected Ring
Ringly takes notifications to the next level. You can customize them with different colors and vibrations to easily distinguish between a new text, email or call. It can even let you know when you have a new Instagram follower.
2. Apple Watch
This version with a rose gold case and lavender band has to be the prettiest Apple Watch of them all.
3. Mira Wellness & Activity Tracker
I've been meaning to get a fitness tracker but most of them are not that attractive. The Mira actually resembles a stylish piece of jewelry and it also functions as a timepiece.
4. Braven Lux Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
Portable speakers used to look so plain. This one is definitely not and it's waterproof as well.
5. Apple iPhone 6S in Rose Gold
My enabler husband convinced me that I should have this phone. Let's just say I'm really glad he did.
6. Portable Phone Charger
There's no reason to get caught with a dying battery when you can carry one of these around. The marble look is so chic.
7. olloclip 4 In 1 Lens
Most people use their phone as their main camera these days and this lens set is full of creative options.
8. Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer
This nifty little gadget makes it so easy to print photos right from your phone. I don't know how many times I've wished I could just make a quick print of a pic for someone.
9. Leica 10771 M RangeFinder Camera
This is like the Bentley of cameras and I'm totally coveting it.
10. Roomba 650 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
Any device that cleans so I don't have to is a winner! I've seen one these in action at a friend's house and it works.
11.Breo iScalp Scalp and Body Massager
Personal massagers are a must for self care and this one features an innovative 3D channel massage module with six traditional massage styles that mimic the feel of being massaged by an actual therapist.

Gift Guide For Guys

December 14, 2015

I've heard some people say that it's often the guys in their lives that are the hardest to buy gifts for. I find it to be quite the contrary when it comes to those I have to shop for especially my husband. I always joke that he gets presents from me all year long since I'm responsible for choosing his entire wardrobe. This is actually a win-win for us since it means that he'll never wear anything I think is hideous and I happen to have pretty good taste. Well I'm quite sure it's better than most men and he often does gets a good number of compliments on the way he dresses. When it comes to holiday gifts, clothing, accessories or tech are usually a sure bet for most males. What do you tend to gift to the men in your lives?

1. J. Crew Factory Silk Dot Bowtie
Cause bowties are so dapper!
2. Everlane Chunky Wool Beanie
A hat should ideally be warm and look good too.
3. J. Crew Jacquard Lambswool Shawl Collar Sweater
Sweaters always make great gifts and this one has really nice looking details.
4. Clarisonic Alpha Fit Sonic Cleansing System for Men
My husband has become a Clarisonic fan since trying mine with his own brush head. If he is willing to use it regularly he should have his own.
5. Motorola Moto 360 Smart Watch
It's cool how watches do more than tell time these days.
6. Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones
A good pair of headphones are a necessity but they shouldn't cost a small fortune.
7. Uniqlo HeatTech Extra Warm T-Shirt
We're big fans of HeatTeach underwear and this baseball style t-shirt can be worn on the outside.
8. Happy Socks Dotted Crew Socks
Colorful socks are such an easy way for guys to add a little fun to their outfits.
9. Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81 Sneaker
One of my husband's favorite sneakers. These have a modern low profile look while being effortlessly stylish.
10. Ray-Ban 61 mm Square Sunglasses
Ray-Bans are so classic and reliable.
11. Mini USB Travel Humidifier
My husband complains about his office being dry and this USB powered humidifier could be a practical solution.

Escape to Curacao

December 7, 2015
Willemstad Curacao, Curacao JetBlue, JetBlueSoFly

If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I was vacationing in Curaçao last week. It has always been a dream of mine to be basking in sunshine and warmth while it was cold and dreary in New York City. While it hasn't exactly been crazy cold, it was still really nice to get a taste of summer-like weather at this time of year. The above photo was taken from my favorite shady spot on the beach.

Willemstad Curacao, Curacao JetBlue, JetBlueSoFly

Curaçao is an island country in the Dutch Caribbean outside the Hurricane Belt. It is the "C" of the ABC Islands along with Aruba and Bonaire and was once part of the Netherlands Antilles. Curaçao is the home to over 35 beaches and a rich and diverse heritage of over 55 cultures. The official language is Papiamentu, a unique mix of African languages and Portuguese, Spanish, with some influences from Amerindian languages, English, and Dutch. The official currency is the Dutch Antilles Guilder (also known as Florin) but the U.S. Dollar is readily accepted. The current exchange rate is favorable to the dollar and we found that prices converted to just over a half with that.

Through My Lens : Recently On Instagram

December 4, 2015
If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I've been enjoying the warmth and sunshine in Curacao this week but I also have some photos to share of the gorgeous and rather warm autumn we've been having in New York City like this one of Washington Square Park last week. I'm not going to overload you with a million pics here so to see more, check out my Instagram feed and of course you can also follow if you'd like.

Rena & Ian : Hello Again

December 2, 2015

It's probably been a little too long since Rena and Ian's last appearance here. Anyway they're back and Rena wanted to show off her new outfit. When I received a Barbie Fashionistas doll at the Oprah's Favorite Things preview, I just knew the dress she was wearing would look fantastic on Rena. Some of you have asked about where I get clothes for these two before and Barbie and Ken do fit them though some options are more suitable than others. Barbie wore this striped top and leopard skirt outfit with bare legs and stiletto heels but Rena is more modest and she wanted to go for more of an edgy feel so her look was styled with tights and punky boots. I think Rena looks more modern and chic and Ian agrees. What do you think?

I happen to be on vacation in Curacao right now but I'll try to make the blog rounds later today from the beach. You can get a peek at what I'm up to on Instagram.

On Rena // Dress: Barbie Fashionistas // Tights & Boots: Original Pullip
On Ian // Sweater: Vintage Ken // Jeans: Twilight Edward Ken // Sneakers: 1:6 Nike

Eye Candy : Editorial Roundup

November 30, 2015

This is where I round up some of the best images from recent celebrity editorials. There have been alot of good ones and not all of the holiday editions have been released yet. I had a hard time choosing between Lee Seung Gi and Kang Dong Won to lead this off since they're both favorites. Seung Gi and his adorably winning smile on the cover of Cosmo Men got the slight edge. The talented singer/actor is currently working on his second film Marital Harmony in which he portrays a fortune teller who has the power to influence the fate of a princess.

Kang Dong Won traveled to Spain the last time he appeared in High Cut and this time the magazine sent him to Italy. I was just reading that his just releases movie The Priests is even scarier than The Exorcist. Yes I will be avoiding that one.

Being Thankful and Expressing Gratitude

November 25, 2015
Gratitude

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and while it's a holiday I have some issues with because of it's terrible roots, I do wholly celebrate the idea of expressing gratitude at this time of year. I generally try to appreciate the good in my life especially when things don't happen to be going well and it can really be a perspective changer. With everything happening in the world recently, those of us lucky enough to not be affected can certainly consider ourselves more than fortunate. As someone who was in NYC during 9/11, I will say that I feel this deeply. I'm grateful for being able to regain my health, my husband, family and and friends and for all of you who come and share this space with me. Have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving if you're celebrating tomorrow! I will be taking a break for the rest of this week and new posts will resume next week.

Dine Out : Little Park

November 20, 2015
Little Park Restaurant Week, Little Park Review

I will preface this by saying that I'm a little behind on my Dine Out posts since we dined at Little Park during Summer Restaurant Week but my reviews have also been a little out of sequence. Little Park which is part of the Smyth Hotel is located on the bustling corner of Chambers Street and West Broadway in Tribeca. This modern American restaurant serves up seasonal cuisine highlighting organic and sustainable farm to table ingredients. The decor in the L shaped space is classic, minimal and neutral with blonde wood tables, leather and fabric upholstered seating and mosaic marble tiled floors. Overall the food was good with an interesting mix of flavors that served to play up each of the main ingredients. We chose the heirloom tomatoes with strawberry and burrata and a vidalia onion tart with black fennel seed and summer herb as starters and they both tasted really fresh and vibrant. Our entrées of a girandole pasta with sunchoke marinara and zucchini and New York strip steak with market greens and charred leek were well balanced and comforting. And I'm not usually keen on dessert but I quite enjoyed the peach sorbet with spicy candied pecans. I think it may be because it was refreshingly tart and not sweet at all. The blueberry cake with corn ice cream in contrast was too sweet and I didn't care much for it. The service was cordial and a little bit slow but we were there during the lunch rush. It was a pleasant dining experience. This is our third visit to an Andrew Carmellini establishment and it would fall in between Locanda Verde and The Dutch for me. I will also mention that they have a good number of vegetarian options on the menu.

Strivectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner

November 18, 2015

As much as I like to try out the latest and greatest in skincare, there are some active ingredients that I always go back to because they just work. Retinol which is a pure form of Vitamin A is one of them. Retinol is commonly used to address a wide range of skin issues from aging to acne and from my experience, it is effective. As retinol becomes increasingly integrated with modern skincare, products also go beyond to offer more extensive benefits. Strivectin Advance Retinol Pore Refiner is a product that does this as an anti-aging treatment that also delivers instant and longterm improvements to the appearance of pores.

About the Brand: Strivectin is perhaps best known for their StriVectin-Di stretch mark cream which became a phenomenon with sales over 6 million tubes globally. Today, Strivectin is a clinically-proven, scientific skin care line that offers comprehensive anti-aging solutions. All Strivectin formulas contain the patented, proven NIA-114 molecule that powers up skin to repair damage and promote an ageless, healthy appearance.

Product Claims: Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner is a potent pore-minimizing lotion that helps to refine the appearance of enlarged pores while purifying, tightening and reducing the appearance of pores. As it hydrates and smoothes skin texture, it absorbs excess oil to control shine throughout the day for a fresher, mattified and youthful looking appearance.

A few items currently on my wish list. Feeling the classics and looking towards winter skincare this month.

Emma Winston Earrings Review & A Giveaway

November 13, 2015
Emma Winston Jewelry, Emma Winston Giveaway

I might sound weird for saying this but I don't wear dangly earrings because I think that they make me look old. Yes I'm an oddball but I also have another reason for avoiding them since a friend of mine tore her earlobe when one of her earrings got caught in a top she was trying on at a store. I was there and let's just say it wasn't pretty and quite painful for her.

Oprah's Favorite Things & A Giveaway

November 11, 2015
Oprah's Favorite Things 2015

If you follow me on Instagram, then you might know that last Wednesday morning I attended a special blogger breakfast at O Magazine to preview some of Oprah's Favorite Things. As O's creative director Adam Glassman unveiled the goodies, we were treated to our own version of Christmas as Oprah's elves came out to present us with select items. Yes that happened and it was pretty awesome! And we also got to try most of the food as well. Here are some of the hot items we saw along with Oprah's commentary on why she chose them. And I have a little giveaway for you all too at the end.

The list which is featured in the December issue of O Magazine hit newsstands yesterday and this year's is the biggest ever with a selection of 87 fun and versatile gifts in all price ranges for everyone on your holiday shopping list. And for the first time ever, Oprah Media Group has teamed up with Amazon to make it really easy to shop Oprah’s Favorite Things, as seen in at www.amazon.com/oprah. With a variety of shipping options, including free shipping on eligible orders and free Two-Day Shipping with Amazon Prime, shoppers can find the perfect holiday gift and have items delivered directly to their doorstep in plenty of time for the holidays.

Oprah's Favorite Things 2015

Chelsea Market Torres Black Truffle Chip Basket   ($52)
"I discovered these potato chips in Spain this summer. They’re dangerous—super crunchy with an intense black truffle taste. Bet you can’t eat just one...unless it’s one entire bag! Bring them to a holiday open house for a sure hit."
The light truffle flavor was delicious!

The Elvis Cake by Carousel Cakes  ($33.56)
"Now, I don’t go around saying this lightly...but this cake is stupid good. The Elvis is a vanilla cake filled with banana custard and topped with peanut butter buttercream and chocolate ganache. As the King himself sang, I can’t help falling in love."
We got to try this in cupcake form and it was a truly decadent treat.

A&B American Style Pepper Sauce Set  ($23.99)
"Feel the BurnStedman and I are a hot sauce family, and I can tell you these pepper sauces are for real! The fresh ingredients give them flavor that’s just as intense as the heat. Pass the catfish, please..."

The Bruffin Bundle  ($85)
"Behold the Cronut of 2015: the Bruffin! Brioche-like stuffed muffins worthy of breakfast, lunch, or dinner are themed by country—the British has bacon and sharp cheddar; the Italian has pepperoni, pesto, and Parmesan; the American has Buffalo chicken, blue cheese, and hot sauce. A world of yum!"
We got one to take home and the one I had with bacon and sharp cheddar made for such a satisfying breakfast!

Eli's Bread Challah Menorah  ($45)
"Adam’s always kvetching about the lack of cute Hanukkah treats, so he was thrilled to find this braided challah menorah. A bright addition to the Festival of Lights."
So fun and yummy!

Hip To Be Square Collection of Five Bottles of Square Vodka  ($35 for one / $175 for set)
"Square One vodka is made in the U.S.A. with organic rye and water originating in the Teton Mountains. A set of the five flavors—botanical, cucumber, original, basil, and bergamot—makes a chic gift. This is the vodka I use for cocktails at home."

Solvaderm Eyevage Review

November 9, 2015
Solvaderm Eyevage, Solvaderm Eyevage Review, Eye Cream Review, Natural Eye Cream, Clinical Strength Eye Cream

I recently introduced you all to Solvaderm Juvabrite Skin Brightening Complex and it has become a critical step in my current skincare routine. Along with that product, I've also been using Solvaderm's Eyevage Age Defying Eye Cream. Anything that claims to be age defying usually catches my attention and this one also claims to be effective against multiple concerns of the eye area. Lines aren't as much of a concern for me as much as dark circles and I'm always looking for something that will vanquish them.

New York City, NYC

Somehow October turned out to be  pretty eventful and the number of photos I took seemed to reflect that. I didn't do a count but I think I posted more photos than usual last month and I actually had a tough time pulling out some highlights this time around. As usual, I'm not going to overload you with a million pics here so to see more, check out my Instagram feed and of course you can also follow if you'd like.

A Farmacy Beauty Review And Giveaway

November 2, 2015
Farmacy Beauty Giveaway

I've been making a move towards natural skincare but I haven't gone all in yet because I haven't been fully convinced that natural products are as advanced in terms of anti-aging innovations. After trying out a few Farmacy Beauty products, I've not only been impressed with their unique "farm to table" approach to skincare and that their line of products made of naturally derived ingredients actually work and live up to their claims. So I've reviewed their Coconut Gel Mask, New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains and Invincible Root Cell Anti Aging Serum. Today I'll be reviewing the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm and I also have a little giveaway for this product.

About the Brand: Made with farm grown botanicals, Farmacy Beauty blends age-old wisdom with cutting-edge technologies. The brand has teamed up with local farmers in Upstate New York to create a unique line of irritant-free, bioactive skincare. The scientists and lab behind Farmacy are innovative experts in cosmetic formulation and research, and seek out nature’s most novel yet effective ingredients. Their products are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, formaldehyde and artificial coloring and never tested on animals.

Eye Candy : Ji Chang Wook for Esquire

October 30, 2015

Ji Chang Wook is at his sartorial best, gracing the cover of Esquire Korea's Men of Our Time issue. This rising star definitely fits that description and his boyishly handsome looks complement all the stylish fashions he models from the sharp three piece glen plaid suit to the urbane tuxedo with tails. The tux look made me recall the drama Five Fingers in which he played a concert pianist who was a little ragey, jealous and even crazy at times. I could never get into that one because of the outrageous level of makjang but I was impressed that Chang Wook was willing to rise to the challenge of a villainous role. There are some actors who seem to play the same characters over and over and he seems like he actually wants to step outside of his comfort zone. Just another reason why I'm a fan. And can we just talk about how amazing he and his hair look here. I'm quite liking the thick soled brogues he is sporting throughout the editorial. They appear to have blue bottoms which is quite cool. A special shoutout to Anouk who now shares my obsession admiration for him. Enjoy!

Champagne Taittinger Uncage My Heart

October 26, 2015
Champagne Taittinger, Taittinger Champagne

Champagne Taittinger is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated Grand Marque Champagne houses in France. Taittinger is the second largest vineyard or domaine owner in the region giving them ultimate control of quality from vine to bottle. The Champagnes are Chardonnay dominant, which gives them their elegance, delicacy and finesse. Taittinger is widely distributed around the world in 140 countries.

I recently attended a press event entitled "Uncage My Heart" that highlighted new interpretations of Valentine’s Day menus and décor concepts with Champagne Taittinger. Attendees were taken on a "journey of the heart" starting with a Bubble Bash with friends to First Date to Lasting Love. Each featured hand selected Champagne Taittinger wines paired with a menu of delicious bites prepared by celebrated Chef Camille Becerra of Navy restaurant in New York City. Chef Beccera also gave a live cooking demonstration on how to make chocolate mousse.

Champagne Taittinger, Taittinger Champagne

Our hostess, Vitalie Taittinger, Global Ambassador and Artistic Director of Champagne Taittinger led us on a guided presentation with a tasting of six different Taittinger Champagnes. This included the classic Taittinger Brut La Française, Prestige Rosé, Nocturne, Prélude Grands Crus and Comtes de Champagne Rosé. It was fascinating to learn a little about each champagne as well as it's particular nuances and tasting notes. The Comtes was my favorite and we learned that it is ideally paired with meats and desserts. Coincidentally it also happened to the most expensive of everything we tried. Another highlight was the filling of the champagne tower. This definitely added to the already festive mood. And the fun didn't end there as guests were all given our very own bottle of Taittinger to take home. I've talked about how I'm not much of a drinker before but I gained a new appreciation for champagne at this event and picked up some fabulous entertaining ideas as well.

Do you drink champagne? What's your favorite?

Farmacy Beauty New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains

October 23, 2015
Farmacy Beauty, Powder Cleanser, Natural Cleanser, Exfoliating Cleanser

I have to say that powder face cleansers fascinate me because of the way they transform into a luscious lather when mixed with water and because the powder is dry, it makes them perfect to travel with. I've tried a number of them and there are some I like more than others but I'm always open to what's out there. I was really impressed with Farmacy Beauty's Coconut Gel Mask so I had a feeling I might also like their New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains.

About the Brand: Made with farm grown botanicals, Farmacy Beauty blends age-old wisdom with cutting-edge technologies. The brand has teamed up with local farmers in Upstate New York to create a unique line of irritant-free, bioactive skincare. This gentle cleanser contains unique grains to cleanse, exfoliate, and clarify in one step for fresh, clear skin. Solvaderm Juvabrite Skin Brightening Complex Review

Solvaderm Juvabrite Skin Brightening Complex,, Skin Brightening Serum, Organic Skin Brightening

I've mentioned here that one of my main skincare concerns are the freckles and hyperpigmentation spots on my face and I'm continuously on the hunt for targeted treatments that will safely and effectively eradicate them. I have to be careful with what I use since my skin is sensitive. I was intrigued by Solvaderm Juvabrite Skin Brightening Complex which is made from all natural ingredients and promises to brighten and illuminate.

We Are Knitters, Breast Cancer Awareness, Knitting Kit

I was introduced to We Are Knitters at a recent bloggers event where I also got reacquainted with knitting. I first learned to knit some years ago and somehow never quite got past making scarves and for that I blame my short attention span. Anyhow, I now have a renewed interest in getting past scarves. We Are Knitters makes it easy to complete new knitting projects with fully assembled kits that come with everything you need from start to finish. We were supplied with kits for a beginner level Braille Beanie and we commenced knitting our beanies with some expert guidance from an experienced knitter at the event which was really helpful. It had been so long since I last knit that I had some issues with properly controlling the tension on the stitches so I actually had to restart it a few times to get it right. I haven't had much time to work on my hat but I'm hoping to be able to finish it before the end of the year. I got the pretty aquamarine colored yarn and the petite Peruvian wool is really soft and easy to work with.

We Are Knitters, Breast Cancer Awareness, Knitting Kit

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, We Are Knitters has created the Solidarity Diva Beanie Kit with 10% of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) throughout October. Sadly with the odds that one in eight women may develop breast cancer in her lifetime, most of us either will be touched by someone battling or who has battled the disease. It's really important to promote awareness through education to increase survival rates through early detection and improving treatments and technology.
