Through My Lens : Recently on Instagram

Memebox

August in NYC was quite hot this year and at times I almost wished for winter but then the month was gone in a flash and I'm hoping it won't get cold so quickly now. Here are a few highlights from August as seen through my lens and posted on Instagram. I'm not going to overload you with a million pics here so to see more, click over to my Instagram feed and you can also follow if you'd like.

I shopped a little last month first taking advantage of the Memebox friends and family sale, picking up some Asian skincare products for both myself and my husband and then I hit up Peach and Lily's sample sale in New York for more AB goodness. I went on the first day and ended up arriving much later because of a lunch date which was fine but after waiting almost an hour just to get into the sale, it was a little disappointing that most of the skincare had sold out so I didn't buy all that much. I hope that if they ever do another sample sale, that it will be better organized and they will do something about people hoarding cause it was ridiculous. I will be reviewing the SU:M27 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick here soon.

I also finally got the Stella Eau de Toilette that I had on my April wish list and have been wearing it non-stop since. It's perfect for summer!

I've been making pasta with cold sauce almost every week since discovering this recipe from food52. I do modify it, subbing roasted garlic for raw garlic since my husband finds uncooked garlic too overpowering. So good and so simple.

Taiwan Bear House is a new Chinatown cafe that serves up classic Taiwanese comfort food in cute bento boxes. It's a little on the expensive side for Chinatown but the food is really good. Pictured: stewed pork belly and golden crust pork chop.

The Sweetgreen wasted salad was created to bring awareness to food waste and sustainability. It includes uncelebrated produce like broccoli leaves and stalks, roasted kale stems, carrot peels, shaved parmesan, spicy sunflower seeds, housemate croutons with a pesto vinaigrette. It’s not only delicious but it has also inspired me to be better about using all of the parts of the vegetables I cook. Like I dice my broccoli stalks and use them in fried rice now. This salad is available through 9/28 and a portion of the proceeds benefit City Harvest.

Fun public art - Hanna Liden's Everything pays tribute to one of New York's most iconic foods with a stack of giant bagels. The artist sees the sculptures as symbolic of the eternal circle of life in NYC. I also spotted this amazing mural in progress in Tribeca.

A bonus photo from China: Through The Looking Glass that didn't make it into my post on the exhibit. I also shared this side view of the stunning gold Guo Pei gown and there will be a few more to come on Instagram. In the Astor Chinese Garden Court, a moon was projected onto the ceiling and reflected into a shallow pool of water. Through this effect, sumptuous Beijing opera inspired dresses by John Galliano and Martin Margiela appear like apparitions on the water. The effect was quite spectacular.

That pasta looks amazing, especially the cold sauce part. I prefer pasta at room temp, I always find it tastes so much better then scorching hot!

That pasta looks yummy. My husband also find raw garlic a bit too much, he always complains that it can be felt a bit to much in the healthy dips I make ( I call them that because I basically mix vegetables, usually carrot and papirka, with olive oil and garlic). I prepared tons of tomato sauce recently, and neatly arranged in jars and now I have all the sauce I need at hand. I also add garlic right away in the tomato sauce, so it is not felt too much..but enough about food:)

I always enjoy your photos, NY is such a fascinating place! Wonderful photos of roads and cars....and the one with the skyscrapers in the background is amazingly beautiful.

Those products you got all seem very interesting. I've been using a bit more make up lately:) and I've started wondering about what skin care products should I get now the season is changing but perhaps it is better to wait and see how my skin reacts to it.

Oh, August in NYC must have been beautiful though! Hot but beautiful! I was lucky to go last year in the brink of Spring and while it was beautiful, I'd love to see in the hot Summer!

And the food looks absolutely delish!

I love this photo diary. The salad has such a cool story behind it (never though I would say that sentence) in that it glorifies lesser known or less 'trendier' food, I love that idea! X

I love your pictures of the city! They're always nice to see. I'll be really interested to see your opinion on the rose soap and the Su:m 37 items you got. I'm really close to smearing snail goo all aver my fave if it will stop the wrinkles...I've heard really good things about the Clean It Zero too.
