Being Thankful and Expressing Gratitude

Gratitude

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and while it's a holiday I have some issues with because of it's terrible roots, I do wholly celebrate the idea of expressing gratitude at this time of year. I generally try to appreciate the good in my life especially when things don't happen to be going well and it can really be a perspective changer. With everything happening in the world recently, those of us lucky enough to not be affected can certainly consider ourselves more than fortunate. As someone who was in NYC during 9/11, I will say that I feel this deeply. I'm grateful for being able to regain my health, my husband, family and and friends and for all of you who come and share this space with me. Have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving if you're celebrating tomorrow! I will be taking a break for the rest of this week and new posts will resume next week.

Would you agree with this quote?

Yes, cannot be more agreed with the quote too. And Rowena, after reading that article u share I have some doubts regarding that holiday too (which is just a humble vision of an Italian from what seen on tv and media). Btw, happy Thanksgiving my friend, hope u get also some rest during the week, many kisses! xo

I so agree we should be grateful for the small and the big in our life. I also was there NYC my hometown when it happen I was coming out of the subway when the first plane hit. So I'm very grateful I'm able to to be here and celebrate Thanksgiving another year. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family great quote.

Hi Rowena! Taking a break from blogging and be with your family on Thanksgiving is a decision I'd probably also take. I agree with the quote. We don't have Thanksgiving in my country but there are other holidays with similar theme. Have a good time and happy Thanksgiving, Rowena! xo

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Europe but it's always a nice reminder to also reflect about everything we should be grateful for. Have a happy holiday!

I had no idea Thanksgiving emerged from such a dark past but I fully understand why some don't celebrate it then. We don't celebrate per say but like you, we are grateful for everything in our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and family, Rowena. xx

Although we don't really celebrate thanksgiving as half my family is German, my mum does in parts of her family. I think it's always a great thing to have gratitude, and definitely not just for the holidays. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday to you.

I wholeheartedly agree with this quote. I believe that having a grateful heart attracts abundance and miracles. The more often you give thanks, the happier you are.

Although I hate the fact that we designate only ONE day out of the entire year for expressing our gratitude. I feel that it should be something that we are doing every single day -- not just for the bigger things, but for the smaller, every day things as well.

I'll be releasing my thoughts on the idea of giving gratitude in a post tomorrow :)
Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, I do agree. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Germany, but I guess being thankful doesn't need a set date.

Yes, the holiday definitely has some unsavory roots, and even these days, a lot of people are more focused on the Black Friday sales, but I'm looking forward to some quality down time tomorrow with a lot of delicious stuffing, lol. :)

Yes I do, great quote. And yes Thanksgiving Day is a bit of a farce. OK more then a bit. The history behind it is more or less a lie. Yes it is good if one wants to use it as a day to be thankful but the history lessons they teach in school are bullshit. Sorry, excuse my French. But I hope you had a great holiday. And lets remember all those in 9/11 and Paris and to all who have suffered directly or indirectly by war, imperialism and discrimination.

I agree with your quote very much. Thanksgiving was always a great time in my home with my family and fantastic food. This will be the first year without my Mom and I've done okay. Miss her terribly, and you are correct in you have to appreciate what you have. We do take so much for granted. She was with me today in spirit and my Dad as well. Hope you had a nice holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. Hoping you have a lovely day/weekend. Thanksgiving is an American "celebration", so aside from the usual stuffing oneself with food while giving thanks I don't really know much about the originals, aside from, as you mentioned "questionable" roots.
