Common Sense

July 31, 2015
common sense, Dressing immodestly, skirts that are too short

Maybe it's just me but I don't understand why anyone would want walk around with half their butt hanging out or their crotch barely covered. All summer long I've been seeing girls/women on the streets constantly tugging at their hems to try to cover themselves or struggling to sit on the train and many times not being able to sit because they'd probably expose their privates. Once I saw a woman have to sit with her hand positioned over her crotch area the entire time and she seemed so stressed. I guess I would be too if my bum was touching the subway seat. There's an easy fix that involves just a few more inches of fabric. I'm all for people wearing what they want but most people who do this usually look uncomfortable and self conscious. Whatever has happened to modesty? I might get flamed on this but it's just my personal opinion. What do you think?

Dine Out : Gran Electrica

July 29, 2015
Gran Electrica Review

I may live in Manhattan but I'm certainly willing to leave it especially when good food is involved. Gran Electrica is located on Front Street by the Dumbo waterfront and we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to get there. This popular Mexican restaurant features a rustic and homey feeling space with a beautiful backyard garden. What caught my attention most about the decor is the black and white wallpaper that covers the back dining room. It presents in the style of a Day of the Dead themed toile depicting skeletons in scenes that reflect the local neighborhood life including hipsters walking about, riding bikes and talking on their phones. It's quite humorous and cool at the same time. Onto the food. The guacamole and chips were just okay. Nothing really to get excited about and could have done with more flavor. Their horchata (a Mexican drink made with rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon) was refreshingly delicious and well balanced. A lot of places tend to make it super sweet and they got it just right. While the guacamole was a little disappointing, the tacos were excellent. We got three kinds and they were all tasty in their own right. The Ensenada Fish with crispy fish, cabbage, cream, avocado salsa and the Language with beef tongue, onion, cilantro, lime, green salsa were our favorites. The Carnitas were good too and the hand pressed tortillas held up to the fillings well. Our service was friendly but a little slow. I would probably skip the guacamole next time and maybe give the esquites a try but the tacos are definitely worth a return visit.

Are you a fan of Mexican food? What's your favorite Mexican dish?

OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum Review

July 27, 2015
Hyaluronic Acid Skincare

Hyaluronic acid is having it's moment as a highly touted skin care ingredient and there are a number of products on the market that contain it, no doubt for it's effective moisturizing qualities. Hyaluronic acid which also known as hyaluronan is actually a natural structural component of skin that is present in connective tissue throughout the human body. Hyaluronic acid can help your skin retain moisture while simultaneously strengthening it's barrier. A healthy barrier presents as skin that looks and feels softer, smoother, and plumper. So it would make sense that a pure hyaluronic acid serum would yield some impressive skincare results. I tried OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum to see for myself.

Eye Candy : Giorgio Armani Made To Measure

July 24, 2015
Chen Kun, Matt Bomer, Dan Stevens, Armani Campaign

What's better than a handsome man in a suit? Well how about three handsome leading men dressed in well tailored suits. John Balsom captures Chen Kun, Matt Bomer and Dan Stevens for the Giorgio Armani Made to Measure 2015 campaign against a moody theatre backdrop in New York City. This sartorially elegant trio are certainly model representatives for the Italian luxury label's line of bespoke suits as the campaign is a celebration of the power of television. While all three actors have made a successful transition onto film careers, they all got their start on the small screen. Chen Kun is a favorite of mine and I became a fan after watching his first drama Love Story In Shanghai in 2002. Of course I adored Matt Bomer in White Collar. I'm least familiar with Dan Stevens since I've never viewed an episode of Downton Abbey but I do look forward to seeing Beauty and the Beast in which he stars opposite Emma Watson.

Don't miss out on the chance to win some stylish eyewear in my Firmoo giveaway!

Summer Style with Happiness Boutique

July 17, 2015

During the summer I tend to keep it simple with my outfits because of the hot weather. I've talked about my summer uniform before and how I could just live in a variety of denim midi skirts paired with striped tanks and tees. I also pare down my jewelry but I still want a pop and adding a statement necklace is an easy way to do that. I was recently contacted by The Happiness Boutique asking if I'd like to review one of their statement necklaces and as soon as I viewed their collection of styles, I knew I'd have a hard time choosing. I settled on this delicate gold toned necklace with a mixture of colorful gems because I liked how it looked bold without being clunky. And I'm really pleased as it pairs effortlessly with both casual and more dressed up looks and the colors are really lovely.

JORD Sidney Wood Watch

July 13, 2015
 Jord Sidney Watch, Jord Watch Review

Most of my friends don't wear watches these days and instead rely on their phones for the time. I almost always wear one because I feel like something's missing whenever I leave the house without a watch. I have a few watches and I consider them fashion accessories.

 Jord Sidney Watch, Jord Watch Review

The latest addition to my collection is a JORD Sidney watch which arrived in this nice looking wooden box. This beauty has gotten alot of wear since it's sporty yet classic and feminine styling goes with a variety of looks from my summer wardrobe. The maple crafted style with a rose gold chronograph face, iridescent dial and fixed crystal bezel surrounded by delicate Swarovski crystals speaks to modern design married with practical function and sustainability.

Currently...

July 10, 2015

Reading... all the magazines that have been piling up for a few months. I don't pay for any of my subscriptions and it's crazy how many magazines I still get.

Watching... Daredevil...
 It's a little dark but interesting. Much better than the movie version with Ben Affleck who I happen to think is overrated and can't act. My husband grew up a comic book collector so we watch this genre quite a bit. It's a good balance with our K-dramas.

Listening... to Lee Seung Gi's And... (그리고...) Love his voice! And Goodbye (그리고 안녕) is such a pretty song.

Eating... warm weather faves like cold Sesame noodles and Taiwanese cucumber salad. (click on names for recipes!)

Drinking... nose to tail lemonade which uses most of the lemon and is made in a blender. So good and refreshing! Here's a recipe if you'd like to try it yourself. This Matcha Arnold Palmer I had the other day at Chalait might be my next drink obsession.

Bookmarking... A Drink With. Such a fun take on the standard celebrity interview.

Wearing... sunscreen whenever I go out even if it's just for an hour.

Becoming... one of those ladies who carries an umbrella when it's sunny cause walking in the shade isn't enough and I need to make my own shade haha.

Planning... our vacation for this year and having a hard time narrowing down where we want to go.

Enjoying... the peonies while they last. They look pretty spectacular dried up as the petals curl up so artfully.

Looking forward to... the arrival of our new air conditioner next week.

Finished... with a big organization and decluttering project and boy does it feel good.

So what's going on with you all?

Currently Coveting

July 8, 2015

A few items currently on my wish list.
What are you coveting lately?
I recently purchased the jacket and rice cooker off my May wishlist.

1. SMEG Kettle
{I still drink hot tea when the weather is hot and I'd love an electric kettle so I don't have to put the stove on to boil water. This vintage style one from SMEG would look just smashing on my kitchen counter.}

2. TonyMoly Magic Food Banana Hand Milk
{I'm smitten with Tony Moly fruit hand creams so this new banana one is on my list to try. And the packaging is pretty cute while we're at it.}

3. London Rebel Sling Flat Sandals
{These black and silver sandals have a cool minimalist vibe and look like they can be easily dressed up or down.}

4. GlamGlow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment
{I just finished off a sample of this mask and loved how it gently deep cleansed my skin. A summer must have!}

5. Topshop Double Scallop Trim Swimsuit
{I tend to favor retro style swimsuits with feminine details and this one definitely fits the bill.}

6. & Other Stories Knee Length Dress
{This looks like the perfect easy breezy summer dress to me and I just adore both the silhouette and color. Bonus that it's on sale for less than $50 now!}

VIIcode O2M Oxygen Eye Mask Review

July 3, 2015
VIIcode Eye Mask, Eye Mask Review

I typically use facial masks several times a week but recently I've realized that maybe I should also be doing more for my eyes. The undereye area can be prone to showing signs of aging and taking proper care of it can be tricky. I'm diligent with being gentle and using eye creams but I wondered if I could be more focused with my treatments. Enter the VIIcode O2M Oxygen Eye Mask.

VIIcode Eye Mask, Eye Mask Review

The VIIcode O2M Oxygen Eye Mask contains a variety of special plant oxygen extracts and deep sea biological extracts to repair the skin around the eyes, reduce dark circles, prevent wrinkles, crow’s feet, dryness and sagging.

VIIcode (pronounced as "vee-two") was established by Dr. Byrne Victor who created the “Ageless Mystery” and became the first one to serve the customized skin care. He firmly believe that “Every woman could be the most beautiful in her own way and she could show this out”.

Eye Candy : Joseph Cheng for MRRM

July 1, 2015

Joseph (Joe) Cheng is quite stylish and urbane in Lanvin in this pictorial for Hong Kong's MRRM magazine. It's been awhile since I've seen a men's fashion editorial so on point with it's styling as every outfit he has on actually looks wearable and the whole communications theme is well executed too. The attractive Taiwanese actor who started out as model recently appeared in the drama Singles Villa and the film The Beloved alongside Wang Likun and Korean actor Kim Bum. I used to watch Taiwanese dramas and It Started With A Kiss which starred Joe and Ariel Lin was one I enjoyed back in the day. It was based on the Japanese manga Mischievous Kiss (Itazura na Kiss) which had a a pretty typical storyline of the naive but optimistic girl who crushes on a cold moody guy and they slowly fall in love when they're forced to live under the same roof. I think this scenario has been used in countless Asian dramas and back then it did feel kind of fresh. Joe had the most awful permed mullet hairdo but somehow he still managed to look cute. His haircut is much better these days and the rest of him looks pretty good as well.

The winner of the Pinch Provisions Minimergency Kit is Gabrielle of A Glass of Ice. Congratulations Gabrielle!
