A Fun Date Night At Muse Paintbar

Muse Paintbar Tribeca, Muse Paintbar Review, Muse Tribeca

My husband and I make it a habit of going out on dates regularly and we're always on the lookout for fun new activities to try together. Muse Paintbar recently invited us to take part in one of their painting sessions. Neither one of us happens to be particularly artistically inclined in that way so we thought it would be a fun challenge. We checked out their online calendar to choose a date and time, booked our session and showed up to paint. We selected a Saturday night class with a Celestial Seascape that featured a painted sky greeting the moon and stars.

Muse Paintbar has locations all around the Northeastern US. Their New York City studio is in Tribeca at 329 Greenwich Street which happens to be a short walk from our apartment. When we got there, we checked in, got our aprons and found our seats.

Muse Paintbar has a full bar with refreshments and a menu of hot and cold snacks and desserts that you can enjoy while you're painting. We had dinner beforehand so we didn't get any food but we did have some drinks.

Everything we needed for our painting including acrylic paints, a sets of brushes and a canvas was already set up at our stations when we showed up.

Our instructor Tabitha was great. She worked at a good pace that was easy to follow and made sure that everyone understood and was able to complete each step which she clearly explained and also demonstrated. There were also helpers around the class to assist with any issues or supply needs.

Midway through our session after laying down the base for our sky.

Hubster drying his painting with a hair dryer since we needed the top layer to be fully dry before we could begin painting the scene at the bottom.

Finishing touches. There was a lot of blending which hubster was much better at than I was. To paint the circle for the moon, you're supposed to start at the center and keep painting semi circles to form a round shape.

Our finished paintings. Hubster's on the left and mine on the right. He did an amazing job!

Comparing my painting to Tabitha's. It's not like I made a masterpiece but at least it had the spirit of being the same painting.

When we started the session, we didn't expect that our paintings would look anything remotely close to the model painting so we were both really happy with how they turned out. It's really cool that  with the guided instruction, you can do this without any prior artistic experience. Throughout the class, Tabitha made it clear that this was a judgement free zone. She stressed that we could be as creative as we wanted with our paintings and that the most important objective was fun. We definitely enjoyed ourselves and would do this again. It would probably be even more with a group of friends. Our class time was from 7:30pm to 10:00pm and my only complaint was that there were so many laggers that the class didn't begin until about 8:20 which was a little annoying but once it started Tabitha was really good at corralling all the loudmouths and about keeping it on track so that we were still able to finish before 10:00.

Muse Paintbar offers both public and private sessions and would be a unique activity for parties (birthdays/bachelorette/office), a girls’ night out, or even a date. Muse has couples' painting classes where artists guide you and your partner through a joint painting and you get to take home two canvases to hang side-by-side. They also offer family art sessions a few times a month where a whole family can participate in creating a painting.

The cost of classes average $39 per person, but may vary based on the types of sessions. The size of each class varies as well. We were part of a class of 36. Muse Paintbar donates five percent of profits to local causes and partners with local suppliers. Reservations are suggested as sessions sell out quickly. Muse also offers gift certificates, private instruction, and private party paintings. To learn more visit musepaintbar.com

Have you ever tried anything like this?

Disclosure: A complimentary session was provided for this experience. There was no other compensation and all words and opinions are my own.

I've seen so many of my American relatives and friends doing these classes and posting their paintings on FB. I think they'd be fun but I know I'd be one of those annoying loud mouths. Not being loud per se but more chatting away and not doing what I'm supposed to loool.

Wow, Rowena, that is such a wonderful experience! I think both you and your hubby made your paintings look as close as to the original. I have never attended anything like this, but looks like lots of fun. Great way to relax and be creative at the same time!

This looks so much fun, Rowena but I would be so nervous to join because I honestly can't draw to save my life! And I love that you and your husband regularly go on dates together, we try to but it's pretty hard with our little one.

In a way I did try something like this before because I did sign up for art class last year and I completed one third of it (one month). As soon as I manage to fit it into my schedule, I plan to complete the other two thirds of it (so two more months). I remember enjoying tose art classes I went to but they also started late (around 8pm) and lasted until 10 pm so my only complain would be the timing because one doesn't have that much energy that late in the day...However, most people are only free in the evening so it is often the only way to organize it.

Speaking of timing, I can't believe that some people were so late (how rude!) that you had to start the class an hour later...Nevetheless, it is lovely that you were able to finish it and create this amazing sky painting. I have to say I'm really impressed with the painting you did. It looks a lot like the target painting. You do get to keep the painting, right? So, that's a nice souvenir. Lovely memory as well. All in all, such a nice activity...it is always good to try something new, it keeps us young in our hearts.

Plus, it is so romantic you and your hubby schedule dates like that, I think it is really important to invest into spending quality time together, especially when one has been married for a while. I always try to think of fun activities for me and my hubby as well.

What?! That looks so good! A friend I have in my neck of the woods also did something similar over wine and her painting came out nice as well. I didn't think I could get it as remotely close to what it's supposed to look like but she reassured me by saying "If I can do it, you can do it!" lol -- it sounds like a fun evening!
