Meet The Byrdie Beauty Box

yrdie Beauty Box. The Review by Byrdie, Byrdie Holiday Beauty Box, Beauty Box

When The Review by Byrdie Beauty Box first got onto my radar, my interest was piqued. The box is described as a limited-edition, curated collection of beauty editor favorites that features a mix of highly covetable full- and travel-size skin, makeup and hair products. These are high end products that have been tried, tested and selected for their effectiveness.

Byrdie Beauty Box. The Review by Byrdie, Byrdie Holiday Beauty Box, Beauty Box

The box is packed with seven products that have a full retail value worth $330. It was being sold for $150 which is some pretty impressive savings. To give you an idea of the savings, the Tatcha Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream alone is $185. I was on the fence about whether I should get it and then the box went on a limited time promo for $80. It was already a good deal at $150 but at almost half that, it became an unbelievable deal. This deal seemed almost too good to be true that I even tweeted about it at the time. Anyway here is my unboxing and some quick thoughts on the products I've already tried.

Tatcha Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream

Full Size
Price: $185
A deeply hydrating moisturizer formulated with antioxidant-rich Peony and Gardenia Fruit extracts Camellia Seed Oil, Rice Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract and Hyaluronic Acid that works to prevent and reverse the signs of premature aging while visibly diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This is the product that most motivated my purchase since I'm already a big fan of a few of the brand's products like the Tatcha Luminous Dew Skin Mist and Tatcha Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder. I do need to finish up my current moisturizer before I start using this but I can say that I'm looking forward to cracking open this luxurious looking jar and dipping into the cream which is supposed to be an absolute savior for dryness and sensitivity.

Verso Deep Hydration Mask

An intensely moisturizing hydrogel facial mask with patented artificial moisturizing factor (AMF) that supports the skin’s ability to retain moisture and keeps skin hydrated for up to 120 hours. The mask also has sodium hyaluronate, grapefruit extract, and ceramide-3 to help make skin softer, smoother, and more hydrated.
One Mask
Price: $18.75 (these are sold in boxes of 4 for $75)

The box comes with either this or the Verso Intense Facial Mask.  I would've been happy with either since sheet masks are my jam and Verso is a brand that I've been curious about. The hydration benefits certainly sound like they would be amazing and I hope this mask will live up to those lofty claims because my winter skin could use the extra moisture. I will try to include a review of this mask in an upcoming feature I have planned on sheet masks.

Ilia Polka Dots & Moonbeams Illuminator

A brightening highlighter made from organic botanicals and oils, with super fine light-reflecting pigments for a dewy glow that looks all your own.  Easily blendable,  it’s also buildable, so you can customize the level of glow you're looking to achieve.
Full Size
Price: $34

This clean beauty product is a really nice complement to my RMS Living Luminizer and 24/7 Touch Up Skin Perfecting Cream which are my go-to highlighters. The stick applicator makes it easy to use for precise application and the product itself imparts a subtle pearly shimmer that can easily be built up or blended in.

Smith & Cult Lip Stain, The Review by Byrdie Beauty Box, Byrdie Beauty Box. The Review by Byrdie, Byrdie Holiday Beauty Box, Beauty Box

Smith & Cult Lip Stain in Mad Heat

A lip stain with a balmy texture, richly pigmented color and matte finish that is designed to smooth Mad Heat is a true deep red with subtle blue undertones.
Full Size
$24

I really thought I was going to hate this because vibrant lip colors are just so not me but I found a workaround where I blot it down to a muted berry stain after applying which I find quite wearable with some impressive staying power to boot. It is intensely pigmented with a creamy texture and should be applied to well moisturized lips for the best results. The packaging is gorgeous btw!

Smith & Cult Lash Dance Mascara

A mascara with a unique bubble shaped silicone applicator that maximizes length and volume and visibly thickens lashes without flaking, caking or crumbling. The micro-balanced formula is free of carbon black, parabens and fragrance.
Full Size
Price: $28

I currently have so many unused mascaras in my stash but I'm still psyched to try this one since it sounds fairly unique based on the description and I like that it is free of the nasties. TBH I'm almost hoping I won't fall in love with it given the price tag.

JINsoon Nail Polish, The Review by Byrdie Beauty Box, Byrdie Beauty Box. The Review by Byrdie, Byrdie Holiday Beauty Box, Beauty Box

JINsoon Nail Polish in Oratorio

A long lasting, chip-proof, 5 free nail polish in a classic neutral toned nude color with a touch of shimmer that was inspired by the costumes of Madame Butterfly.
Full Size
Price: $18

Nail polish in beauty boxes are usually meh for me because they tend to come in polarizing shades. I also don't bother to do my nails much as I just do so much with my hands day to day that manis never last. Nevertheless this is just the type of understated shade I would buy myself cause I do tend to prefer nudes with a little oomph when I do get my act together to do my nails.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray Review, The Review by Byrdie Beauty Box, Byrdie Beauty Box. The Review by Byrdie, Byrdie Holiday Beauty Box, Beauty Box

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

An invisible dry hair spray that creates incredible volume and texture. It contains patented polymers that absorb oil at the roots which makes it a brilliant alternative to dry shampoo.
Travel Size
Price: $22

I've heard such good things about this spray and I now know why. It isn't sticky at all and is amazing for adding weightless texture and volume with great hold. My husband and I both use it as a dry shampoo as well and it is completely revitalizing without any residue.

I'm really excited about this box because it actually felt like a well thought out curation of products. They were all new to me so a big yes on discovery! I will also be using each and every one of these. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was getting two Smith & Cult products as I would've preferred seeing more variety but that's a pretty minor complaint. The $185 Tatcha cream alone is worth the price of the box and to also get 6 other luxe products is just an incredible value especially since there were 6 full sized products in total! Who doesn't like getting their money's worth. Limited quantities of this one off Byrdie Beauty Box are still available for $150 from Amazon.

What do you think of this box? Have you tried any of these products?

Even though the price is certainly justified I dont think I would have bought the box. The Tatcha cram sounds lovely, but there are other things of the brand I want to try first, and the rest is very nice, but nothing I would have gotten myself.

This looks like a box filled with amazing products! That's quite a discount compared to how much the box originally would cost! That red lip stain is so pretty!

Oh man! $80 for this set was such a great deal, Rowena! All the products certainly sounds like a winner. Note to self: must really try Tatcha soon. And you know, this is the first time I've heard of Smith and Cult. I'm not a big wearer of bright lipsticks either, but that shade looks freaking fab:D And thanks for the Oribe spray review. Good to know it's worth the price!
Happy Monday, chingu!

80 dollars is a great bargain for a box that contains quite a few fantastic products. Tacha Ageless cream sounds dreamy, especially since this cold seems to have decided to stay. I think most of us (if not all of us) need a little bit of help to keep our skin healthy in wintertime.

Funny how you say you hope you won't fall in love with that mascara. I know what you mean, at its full price it is quite pricey and mascara can be used only for three months once it is open- as you have reminded us recently, so price is something to keep in mind. I think it is always better to invest in products that last longer.

That lip stain is fabulous. I really like this bright red shade!

Score on a great price! Tatcha is seriously pricey but I'd love to try more of their products. Keep an eye out next Black Friday because they had a F&F sale and there was an Amex offer for cashback as well.
The Smith & Cult packaging is quite lovely as well. It looks like a worthwhile box!

Oooh, I've kinda resolved not to look at beauty boxes but I am seriously tempted. I mean, for that Tatcha cream itself! I've used several sample packets of this and loved it. I think you'd enjoy this so much!

Oooo! Steep price but so worth it! I tried looking for it on Amazon.ca but it's not available and I know Amazon.com doesn't ship to Canada.

Rowena, that was a very good deal! Just for the Tatcha alone. I can't wait to try my Tatcha skincare items. It's encouraging to hear that you like them. I purchased a Smith & Cult nail lacquer and lippie, so I can't wait to try. Ilia has been on my radar, so it's good to hear they have subtle highlighters. Very nice box!

I bought this box and it was missing the Tatcha cream! I emailed Amazon about it and luckily they refunded me. Still a little disappointing though that I didn't get to try the cream. (And at that original price point I don't think I'll be trying it anytime soon!)
