A new era of Chanel was ushered in at Paris Fashion Week with the unveiling of the Chanel Haute Couture AW 2019 collection which was staged at the Grand Palais which had been transformed into an opulent, circular library that included over 350,000 books inspired by Coco Chanel’s personal library. Creative director Virginie Viard debuted her first haute couture collection. The outfits which included plenty of tweed separates alongside minidresses and voluminous statement evening gowns all channeled  the signature Chanel aesthetic of polished elegance and classic femininity.

What caught my eye was the understated makeup and hair and the standout eyewear glasses. Yes the gorgeous glasses which tied into the library theme provided a sophisticated finishing touch to a range of looks. Working with a them of “elevated beauty” the subdued makeup created by Chanel's global creative makeup and color director, Lucia Pica featured an almost bare faced with a strong brow juxtaposed against an ultrafine cat eye flick rounded out by lightly glossed cheeks and muted lips.

"I thought of creating this really strong eyebrow to give [the models] confidence and a sense of authority. I brushed up the inner part of the brow and then elongated them toward the outer corner. I decided to do a straight eyeliner with  Caligraphie de Chanel liner going from the middle to the outer corner. The skin was kept super translucent with Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint and then I put transparent balm high on the cheekbones to catch the light."

Sam McKnight took a similar restrained approach to the hair which consisted of slicked back, low ponytails fastened with simple, thin black bands. Sam McKnight Modern Hairspray was layered through the hair in one inch sections with deep-side or straight center parts combed into the crown and hair secured into sleek ponytails tied with string, topped with a piece of Chanel satin ribbon.

Lucia Pica and Sam McKnight did such a wonderful job styling this collection by Viard (who also did a great job. Man...must be so hard following Lagerfeld but as a long-time Chanel employee, you can tell she knows what the house is all about.). Swoon. And now, I wanna get my hands on that Water Fresh Tint.:D
Happy Friday, chingu!

Such a beautiful make-up. I like these natural, no make-up looks. Also I like glasses. They are so unique and different. I need one for myself.

Loving the minimal makeup look, it's very Parisian chic! The earrings in the third photo caught my eye as well, they're gorgeous!

Ah yes this aesthetic is spot on with the theme which I love btw. So cool this focus on print and books. And the hair and makeup is impeccable.

I always liked the elongated eyebrow look. I really like the make up and hairdos for this Chanel show. The winged cat eye looks so feminine and paired with a strong eyebrow it really draws attention to the models' eyes. I like the natural dewy skin make up look as well. I first though that the make up artist used a bit of highlight on the cheeks but then I read it was actually balm that was applied to capture the light- how clever!
