Dine Out : Farmacy Kitchen

Opened in 2017, Chefs Club Counter in Soho is a unique dining concept featuring a chef residency program that hosts and showcases a revolving lineup of culinary talent for a fixed period of time. Currently in the midst of a six month residence is Farmacy Kitchen. An offshoot of the famous Farmacy London in Notting Hill, the New York location also focuses on a sustainable & holistic approach to food and agriculture with its plant-based organic menu that is free from dairy, refined sugars, additives and chemicals. The name Farmacy comes from the Hippocratic quote: “food is medicine.”

Farmacy Kitchen is the first full service establishment at Chefs Club Counter that I can recall as all of the other residencies were of the fast casual format. The interior is a chic yet cozy green space that is decorated with sustainability in mind, utilizing upcycled materials and reclaimed wood. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the vegan menu includes a roster of the most popular dishes from their London location made from ingredients that are sourced directly from a biodynamic farm in upstate New York. They also offer a selection of teas, superfood smoothies and cold pressed juices.

I've dined here twice, once with Allie of Allie NYC and another time with my husband. Allie had the Artichoke Pizzetta served on house made sourdough with a tomato and artichoke sauce, macadamia herb "cheese", olive, capers, and spinach which she enjoyed because it was so thin, crispy and fresh tasting. It seemed to be a popular dish as I noticed several tables around us had also ordered it. I had the Mexican Bowl with sprouted coriander rice, micro greens, tomatoes, guacamole, black beans, chipotle "sour cream",  whipped squash, corn chips and jalapeño dressing. The flavors were on point and it was both light and filling at the same time. I actually make a similar dish at home and got some inspiration on how to make it even healthier.

We actually went back because my husband was craving curry and I had heard good things about their Chef's Curry made with seasonal organic produce. In this case it was a cauliflower and sweet potato curry served with sprouted brown rice. He was very satisfied as it was hearty and delicious with a nice balance of flavors and that slow release of heat that is fundamental to any good curry. I tried the famous Farmacy burger made from millet, black bean & mushroom), aquafaba aioli, goji ketchup, carrot & celeriac remoulade, housemade pickles & tomato in a sourdough bun, served with fries. It was in a word amazing and you don't miss the meat at all. On this visit we also tried the Matcha Latte and Maca Latte which tasted as lovely as they looked. On both occasions, the service was cordial and hospitable. My only complaint would be that the music can be a tad loud especially if one is trying to carry on a conversation. Otherwise I do appreciate their environmentally friendly ethos as well as their food which tastes good and is also good for your health. I only wish they would find a permanent home in NYC because we could do with more quality vegan restaurants. Farmacy Kitchen will be at the Chefs Club Counter space through the end of February and I do intend to dine there again before then.

The food looks so yummy and the interior is so photogenic! Love the concept of rotating chefs too, I went to something similar in NYC but it was for ramen. Will add this place to my list of NYC restaurants to visit next time I'm there!

I can see why so many people are ordering that pizza. OMG it sounds delicious! I love the interiors, the green velvet bench is so dreamy. The whole place, the vibe and menu sounds dreamy. Such a shame it's only around until Feb, would have loved to dine here, not that I (sadly) have any plans to hit NYC anytime soon.

Farmacy Kitchen sounds like such a great place to eat. It is wonderful that you were inspired to try this dish at home as well and that you were able to make it even healthier.

Thanks for this review! All 4 of the dishes sound wonderful! It is pretty hard finding a good vegetarian and vegan restaurant. I'd definitely try this when in NY.

Hope you are having a great weekend! We have a lot of rain which is very welcome, but we have still been able to get out and about :)

The food sounds delicious and healthy, Rowena! I know of Matcha latte but this is the first time I came across Maca latte. I do add a tsp of Maca root powder into my smoothie in the morning, maybe I should start adding it into my coffee too.
