One of the things that I don't enjoy much about travel aside from the actual process of traveling is having to pack. I just find it tedious and such a chore. Packing effectively is one of the keys to having a good trip. How to Pack: Travel Smart for Any Trip is a useful guide for how to pack for any type of trip. The author, Hitha Palepu is a seasoned traveler who has been dispensing travel and lifestyle tips and hacks on her blog Hitha On the Go for a number of years.
The premise of this book is that when it comes to travel, the journey is just as important as the destination and packing is the first step in that journey. How To Pack starts off by helping you find your packing personality to determine the areas where you need the most work in that first step towards becoming an efficient traveler.
Then it breaks down into guidelines for everything from selecting the right luggage, how to pack to trip specific packing lists. The guide to clothing selection talks about how to choose clothes based on on power pieces vs. fantasy pieces is a very practical approach as is Hitha's accessory math equation which will keep you from ever overpacking accessories again. Her best practices for selecting and packing toiletries and makeup was of special interest to me since I'm always anxious about forgetting something there. The book doesn't stop at packing and also includes helpful airport, in-flight and arrival survival tips. Her advice for repacking by reassembling your bag as closely as it was before for your return is foolproof for making sure nothing gets left behind.
How to Pack is well organized and nicely presented with charming illustrations. It was a fun and easy read. A good deal of the advice is common sense like packing well in advance of a trip instead of at the last minute and keeping your toiletries and electronics handy for easy access at security checkpoints. Then there are tips like looping your belt inside the collar of a blouse to keep it from being crushed which most people who are not frequent packers would probably not think to do. This book is informational and enjoyable but I would say that it is geared towards a female audience.
Are you an advance or last minute packer? I usually start my packing a week before I leave because I have anxiety about forgetting things.

I am an in advance packer, at least since I turned 25 and started to really travel. Not just beach vacations for a week or two, but backpacking trips and month long road trips. Especially since we started traveling with the kids, I am very organized. I did not know about the belt though, but I rarely take a bluse with me anyway.

Interesting book love the cover great review.
Thanks for the heads up about this book, Rowena! I'm a last-minute packer for sure, and also one of the worst. I always either overpack, or forget something super important. I really need to step up my game as we're travelling to the US in the summer....ack!
Wonderful! :)

I love the luggage-style print of the book, what a great themed idea! I have a feeling there's a lot for me to learn when it comes to better packing, and so tips like the one mentioned about the belt wrapped inside a collar, would be of great help! Thanks for the book recommendation Rowena :)

What a fun book:) I am usually a super light traveler because I don't like packing. We are going to Spain in May, so maybe I should read this gem! Kisses, lovely.
This sounds like an interesting book that I would like to read!
I actually really enjoy the packing process. That's when I start to get excited about traveling. I think I tend to start packing a day or two before to make sure I have everything. I don't like packing same day because that's when I feel like I might forget something.

I am lucky that my husband is extremely organize and whenever we travel, I only have to lay out what I want to bring along on the bed and he'll pack. Even when we migrated from Malaysia to Canada, he was the one who packed everything away.
This sounds like a nice little addition to my book collection, I'm a serious last minute packer and I always end up forgetting something or the other.

Great guide darling
I love the design of this book, and there are so many good tips :)
I don't get overwhelmed by the packing itself but deciding what to bring and not forget anything. But this book looks like it would be a great help. Now I just need to plan my best trip.

Omg you're so well organized. I pack last minute like a night before the departure 😱
I've definitely gotten better over the years! I do a really good job packing lightweight clothes than winter ones (they can be so bulky). But it's all about pairing things that can be interchanged (shoes) etc. I would love to read that book.
