Jun Ji Hyun for Harper's Bazaar

April 28, 2014
Jeon Ji Hyun Harper's Bazaar Korea April 2014

Jun Ji Hyun almost seems as if she could be channeling her character of Cheon Song Yi in these editorial images lensed by Jeon Seung Hwan. I debated whether to share these and settled on featuring just my favorite photos from both the Harper's Bazaar Korea and Harper's Bazaar China pictorials because I felt neither were entirely that strong on their own and the excessive Photoshopping on some of the images is absolutely perplexing to me. See what I mean below. She's looking pretty incredible in the "original" image on the left yet somehow they decided she wasn't tall enough for the Chinese edition and the result just looks so wrong. I felt a need to mention this because I find it generally disturbing and this is the type of thing that creates unrealistic body image issues for people as if that wasn't enough of a problem already. If you're curious, here are links to the entire Korean editorial and the entire Chinese editorialThe last time I cited an overuse of Photoshop was in this Elle editorial with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byung Hun.

There's no denying that she totally pulls off all the key SS 2014 designer looks she's wearing though. Ji Hyun and her costar Kim Soo Hyun are now more popular than ever thanks to the highly successful run of their recent fantasy romance drama You Who Came From the Stars which I'm finally getting around to watching now. I can't say it's even close to being my favorite K-drama this year but Jun Ji Hyun's amazing wardrobe has kept my interest. And her performance as a haughty actress who falls in love with an alien who has lived on Earth for 400 years is rather spot on. She is also known as Gianna Jun and has made several Hollywood films including Blood The Last Vampire and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (the book was much better than the movie btw).

Spring Cleaning & Organization Tips

April 23, 2014
spring cleaning and organization tips, Spring Cleaning, Spring Cleaning Tips, A Guide to Spring Cleaning

I usually give our apartment a pretty good cleaning to prepare for the Lunar New Year but it's when Spring rolls around that I really get to the deep cleaning and organizing. With this also comes the purging which I find so liberating and so necessary. We have decently sized closets and our apartment isn't actually cramped but somehow clutter still manages to build up. I've always been good about having a place for everything but now I'm also trying to be more mindful of what I bring in and have routines for regularly disposing of things. So far I've tackled the pantry, refrigerator, linen closet and my beauty stash. I'm in the process of cleaning my closet now and this always feels like a real process even though I do it twice a year. As I was cleaning my computer I found a number of helpful links to cleaning/organizing tips I had bookmarked and thought I'd share them here.

Do you Spring clean? How do you conquer clutter?

Flashback Friday

April 18, 2014

Found these photos when I was spring cleaning my computer. So hubster and I both lived in Taiwan for awhile when we were kids... at around the same time period too. We sometimes like to joke about how "fashionable" we were back then and how we actually could've met each other as children. No matter since we obviously still met and have been married for twelve years now. Gosh I can never get over how cute he was and what a sharp dresser too! And he's still both. Happy weekend and Happy Easter!

Real Techniques Stippling Brush : This brush makes cream blush application a total breeze, creating a natural well blended look effortlessly. I got it for $8.99 and for the quality it feels like it should cost more. It's nice and sturdy and the bristles are soft and don't shed. People also use it for foundation but I've never tried it for that since I don't wear foundation. I am definitely interested in trying out more brushes from this line though.

Aerolatte Milk Frother : I like my tea lattes but I don't like shelling out the $ for them. Yes I'm frugal when it comes to certain things. Starbucks would be hard pressed to get money from me haha. I picked up this frother to make matcha green tea lattes at home and it's so simple to use and clean up. Easily one of my favorite purchases of this year.

Dried White Mulberries : I kind of got hooked on Dr. Oz when I was sick over the holidays and have been watching the show sporadically ever since. He introduced these as a superfood and I loved them at first taste. They're lightly sweet and crunchy with a subtle nutty flavor. What's more they're low in calories and sugar while packed with fiber, protein and antioxidants. Benefits include heart protection, lowering cholesterol and regulating blood sugar so I can feel good whenever I grab a handful or two.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your recent loves?

Color Love : Lavender

April 14, 2014

Lavender is such a lovely color. It's feminine and chic without being overly sweet which makes it kind of perfect across seasons. It's somewhat subdued so it's also easier to wear than radiant orchid. I think it looks really sophisticated paired with burgundy and shades of grey and so fresh when coupled with mint. Are you a fan of lavender? What shades do you like to pair with it?

Eye Candy : Five Hundred Days of Summer

April 11, 2014

Warmer days look to be in full effect in this rosy hued Harper's Bazaar UK editorial. Regan Cameron captures Marikka Juhler in an array of charming looks by Burberry Prorsum, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Dior and Herm├Ęs. I really like the dreamy romantic mood of this shoot along with the easy chic and wearable fashions. The first and last looks are my favorites. What do you think?

Club Monaco Spring 2014 Look Book

April 9, 2014

It's been awhile since I've shopped at Club Monaco and since viewing their current look book, I definitely will have to start again. I'm really impressed with all the beautifully wearable and streamlined options as well as the clean classic aesthetic the brand has always been known for. I actually wouldn't mind wearing some of these looks exactly as they're styled and I think I may be adding a pair of culottes to my wish list now. Are you a fan of Club Monaco? Do any of these looks catch your eye?

There's still time to enter the giveaway for a Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening System.

Eye Candy : Won Bin, Jo In Sung & Song Joong Ki for Harper's Bazaar

April 4, 2014
Won Bin, Won Bn Harper's Bazaar, Won Bn Harper's Bazaar 2013

This Harper's Bazaar Man editorial is a year old but I only came across it recently. It's never too late to feature attractive men with phenomenal skin and amazing hair though. First up is actor Won Bin. I don't know what's harder to believe, the fact that he's 36 or that he hasn't taken on any projects since The Man From Nowhere which came out in 2010. He must be living off all the money he makes from commercial endorsements and it's not surprising that he has quite a few. I mean have you ever seen someone so handsome in an insurance commercial? He even runs pretty.

Cooking Dinner With Plated

April 2, 2014
plated recipe chicken tostadas

I cook most nights of the week and have a roster of meals that I regularly rotate depending on the season. I tend to make alot of Asian food because it's easiest and what hubster and I find most comforting. Lately I've been looking to expand my repertoire and I was curious to try out one of the new build your own meal delivery services that seem to be so popular lately. I found a promo for Plated and gave it a go. I went to their site and made my selections for two meals and a delivery date. I chose Shepherd's Pie and Chicken Tostadas with Avocado Dressing which were two things I've never attempted to make before. On the designated day, a box arrived by courier with the ingredients for my meals. Everything was clearly labeled and packed well in an insulated bubble wrap pouch with ice packs so it could stay cool for an extended period of time if necessary. Two detailed recipe cards were also included.
