Style Crush : Kate Beckinsale

January 31, 2012

Kate Beckinsale looked absolutely stunning at the Madrid photocall for Underworld Awakening last week wearing a deep red sleeveless jersey dress that featured a python embossed neckline and gathered twisted waist from the Michael Kors Spring 2012 collection. The look was simply completed with nude patent Brian Atwood "Maniac" pumps and a Kara Ackerman ring. Her makeup was understated with pink glossed lips and her lustrous wavy tresses looked gorgeous as ever. While she's never been one to take many fashion risks, she knows what works on her and she's definitely mastered the art of looking glamorous and feminine.

I want to give my thanks and appreciation to Maggie of The Polka-dotted Jellyfish and Meggy of Haus of Gala for the wonderful blog awards last week. I'm incredibly honored and flattered. I haven't been blogging for all that long but the one thing I've really enjoyed is meeting and getting to know other bloggers. Your support and friendship has meant the world. I'll finish with one random fact about me ~ I once had to tell the First Lady of France to get off the phone with Donald Trump. That's all I'll say on that. You might get more if we ever meet up for drinks.

Watch : Gossip Girl

January 30, 2012

Currently in it's fifth season, Gossip Girl will be airing it's 100th episode tonight. My husband likes to tease me for watching this show and I make no apologies for I loving it. It's such a delicious departure from real life, the fashions are fabulous and it takes place in New York City. The big storyline is no doubt Blair's royal wedding to Prince Louis or might it turn out to be a non-wedding? I'm rooting for the latter. There's also going to be a musical dream sequence featuring Serena as Marilyn Monroe and Blair as Audrey Hepburn. How apropos! So is anyone else excited?

While I'm on the subject, I wrote a post awhile back about how I think Chuck Bass aka Ed Westwick resembles T.O.P from Big Bang and I know I can't be the only one considering the amount of traffic I get on that page off google searches on the topic. Care to take a look and weigh in.

Style Wise : Mittens

January 27, 2012

I admit it. I might be addicted to mittens. I mean I only buy them like they're going out of style. Of course I remember a time when mittens weren't really popular and especially hard to find. That's a notion I apparently haven't been able to let go of. I turned to mittens cause gloves never kept my hands warm and I also didn't like the feel of them. And they're way cuter than gloves. I'm glad they're so much more accessible these days but that may only fuel my addiction. I just saw this cute Kate Spade pair the other day...

I'm quite fond of my little collection. I actually have two more pairs than pictured here but they were omitted for the sake of symmetry. Yes I'm anal like that.

Are mittens a yay or nay for you? Is there anything that you buy like it's going out of style?

Dine Out : Dong Chun Hong

January 26, 2012

I love food and discovering fun new places to eat in NYC so I was thrilled when I was able to attend a Grand Opening Tasting Event at Dong Chun Hong a few weeks back. The recently opened Seoul export located in Koreatown serves a fusion menu of two of my favorite cuisines ~ Chinese and Korean. The clean modern decor of the space with elegant chandeliers and embellished artwork created by a local artist on paneled walls provides a pleasing dining atmosphere. Overall the food and service were quite satisfying. I think the dishes included in the tasting only touched upon a sampling of their entire repertoire as I spied a vast menu with many intriguing fusion style offerings along with a number of meal set options on their website. And they serve Jjamppong! That in itself dictates a return visit to try.

Eye Candy : Han Hyo Joo and Eugene for Cosmopolitan

January 25, 2012

The February issue of Cosmopolitan Korea is all about beauty and the spotlight is appropriately turned on two of the country's most beautiful actresses. Han Hyo Joo who has really come into her own as a leading lady appears on the cover and in a glamorous beauty themed editorial. In an accompanying interview, she shared that she wants to age gracefully like Charlotte Gainsbourg and that if she hadn't pursued acting she would probably be a student. She will next be appearing in the film I Am King of Joseon opposite Lee Byung Hyun (G.I. Joe). Personally I'd love for her to work with Lee Seung Gi again.

Through My Lens : Snow

January 24, 2012

Living in New York, I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I'm often awestruck by it's beauty as the snow falls, frosting the city in white but it's another story once I find myself having to navigate through the black slush that it inevitably becomes. We were hit with record snowfalls last winter but so far it's been fairly quiet on that front this year. I almost miss it as snow is a subject matter that I never tire of photographing cause it can be so magical. In that spirit I wanted to share a few of my favorite snowy images. It can get a little tricky but I love taking my doll/photo muse Rena out for photoshoots in the snow. Does it snow where you live and is it something you like or not?

Eye Candy : Chen Kun for L'Officiel Hommes

January 20, 2012
So the editorial gods have decided that the world needs another Chen Kun pictorial. It's understandable considering how the actor is so photogenic and has an incredible energy and presence in front of the camera. Is my crush showing? I'm liking how this series manages to evoke quite a different feel from his previous shoots for Esquire and Men's UnoHave a great weekend! I'll be extending mine to celebrate the Lunar New Year and my birthday so I'll be back with a new post and catch up with everyone on Tuesday. And for those who celebrate ~ Happy New Year! Eye Candy : Louis Vuitton Cruise 2012

January 19, 2012
Photographer Mark Segal captures Arizona Muse in Paris for the Louis Vuitton 2012 Cruise Catalogue. The French city is an aptly enchanting backdrop for the luxury label's sophisticated accessories and whimsical retro-Parisian inspired collection which ranges from tailored to casual denim styles. I'm in love with that amazing gold collar and how cool are those perforated bags?

Through My Lens : Red Shoes

January 18, 2012

I seem to have shoes on the brain this week for some reason. My mom said that as a child I went through a period where I would only wear red mary janes. I have a tendency to be particular so this is not all that surprising. My footwear preferences are no longer exclusive though I still have a fondness for red and mary jane styles. This is the only pair of red shoes currently in my closet and they make me happy. Was there anything that you constantly wore as a child and is it something you still like?

Eye Candy : Zhou Xun for Madame Figaro

January 17, 2012
Zhou Xun graces Madame Figaro. In my opinion this editorial plays up to her quirky charms much better than her previous appearance in Vogue. The actress is currently appearing in two films, The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate and The Great Magician. The cover photo has abit of bridal feel to me.

Dine Out : Parm

January 12, 2012
Parm, Parm Restaurant, Parm Review, Parm New York,

This can technically be a follow-up to my post on dining at Torrisi Italian Specialties since this popular sandwich shop has it's origins as a lunch counter next door. Parm is now a free standing operation with full sit-down service and a menu offering homestyle Italian-American classics centered around subs. The decor has a cozy old school diner vibe with kitschy wallpapered walls, shiny red stools lining the counter and a handful of small closely placed tables in the back. They open for lunch at 11AM. We got there at around 11:30 and were able to score a corner table. We started our meal with garlic knots and spicy broccoli rabe. The garlic knots were more cheesy than garlicky, not greasy and very good. Nothing like the kind you get from pizzerias but then these are 3 for $5. The broccoli rabe was tasty and had a nice kick though I didn't expect it to be served cold. Of course we had to try the eponymous chicken parm. We got the hero which features a double stack of breaded chicken topped with melted mozzarella and an outstanding marinara sauce on a toasted semolina roll. It was quite delicious as the elements and flavors of the sandwich were finely balanced. We also split one of their famous house roasted turkey sandwiches. Slices of turkey are layered with lettuce, tomato, red onions, mayonnaise and a spicy red sauce on your choice of bread. The turkey was juicy and flavorful and the spicy sauce left a subtle trail of heat. It was excellent as turkey sandwiches go. The hubster had initially wanted a zeppole for dessert but we were stuffed by the time we finished our food. A return trip is surely in order. The line was about 10 deep out the door when we left. If you can't get there for lunch, they're open for dinner with nightly specials. And if you're a baseball fan like me, they also have an outpost at Yankee Stadium.

Style Crush : Emmy Rossum

January 11, 2012

Emmy Rossum looked sensational at the second season premiere of her Showtime series Shameless in LA last week. The actress shined in a beaded silver tulle dress with art deco design details from the Ralph Lauren Spring 2012 collection. Her sparkly accessories included jewelry from Ralph Lauren Vintage, a Swarovski crystal covered clutch and Jesila metallic suede shoes. Finger waved hair and red lips finished off her glamorous retro inspired look.

Interiors : 31 Rue Cambon

January 10, 2012
Recent photographs provide a captivating glimpse inside 31 Rue Cambon otherwise known as the address of the legendary Coco Chanel. The apartment which was primarily used as an atelier and also for entertaining has remained as she left it and reveals a rather traditional sense of decor as well as her great affection for Oriental styles and motifs. Mlle. Chanel believed in the healing power of crystals and was apparently quite superstitious. That entryway Art Deco mirrored spiral staircase where she used to watch for audience reactions to her shows always manages to take my breath away. More at The Coveteur

Eye Candy : Michelle Reis for Madame Figaro

January 9, 2012
Michelle Reis on the cover and in the pages of Madame Figaro. The former Miss Hong Kong/actress who became a mom in 2011 is pretty much retired this days and she still looks as lovely as ever.

Eye Candy : In Love With Paris

January 5, 2012
I often find images where you don't see the face of a person to be more compelling and that it adds another dimension to the visual story. I guess that might be kind of funny coming from someone who photographs people quite often.

Cook : Stir Fried Pumpkin with Pork

January 4, 2012

I love pumpkin and have been looking for ways to incorporate it into more meals. I first tried this dish at a Sichuan Chinese restaurant and thought it was quite a tasty and unexpected way of having pumpkin. So I recreated it at home and came up with this recipe. It's pretty easy and great served with rice and a plate of greens. Chicken or beef can also easily be substituted for the pork.

Eye Candy : Yoon So Yi for W

January 3, 2012

I'm back! So what exactly did I get up to during the holiday break and my vacation from the internet? Well I went out for many holiday dinners, chilled at home with the hubby, ate, watched a bunch of movies, ate, edited photos, ate, enjoyed the unseasonably warm temps outside and did I mention that I ate like alot. Honestly this respite was just what I needed to rest, reflect and recuperate from a minor injury that was only aggravated by being on the computer. Now I'm looking forward to all the possibilities that come with a new year and I hope everyone's year has started off with a flourish!

I also watched a Korean drama for the first time in a few months. That's significant because K-dramas are my not so guilty pleasure and I have a drama watch list that only ever seems to expand. I blew through eight episodes of Color of a Woman which is currently airing on Channel A. The storyline is about two career women who are both friends and rivals working at a cosmetics company. I wasn't really familiar with her before this but Yoon So Yi is quite enjoyable as the main female lead. Anyway I found this beautiful editorial for W that was shot last summer while she was appearing in the drama Warrior Baek Dong Soo which just had to be shared. The concept is based upon the 2008 Joseon era historical movie Mi In Do (Portrait of a Beauty) about a woman who becomes quite successful after taking on her brother's identity as a painter when he commits suicide. The photos which suffuse a modern interpretation on traditional beauty are absolutely gorgeous and the actress was praised for her concentration and professionalism throughout the shoot. I think the final image of the hanbok clad silhouette behind the screen is especially striking.
