Eye Candy : Song Joong Ki for Harper's Bazaar

April 29, 2016
Song Joong Ki, Song Joong Ki Harper's Bazaar, Song Joong Ki Harper's Bazaar 2016, Descendants of the Sun, 송중기, SongSong Couple, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, 태양의후예, Song Joong Ki Hong Kong

Harper's Bazaar spends a day with Song Joong Ki as he hangs out in and around Hong Kong's swanky Peninsula Hotel. The magazine's May 2016 cover star is clad in a boldly emblazoned Louis Vuitton shirt and wears other pieces from the label's Spring/Summer 2016 collection throughout this very extensive editorial. The charismatic 31 year old actor who won the hearts of many the world over for his portrayal of Yoo Shi Ji in Descendants of the Sun might just be the most popular celebrity in Asia right now (Song Joong Ki syndrome is a thing!)  but he still remains ever so down to earth. When questioned recently about his status as a Hallyu star (Hallyu is a term meaning “Korean Wave” that refers to the outflow of Korean culture to other countries), Joong Ki humbly replied that he can't get used to the idea of being a Hallyu star, crediting it to the overwhelming success of DOTS. Instead he pointed to his Descendants of the Sun leading lady Song Hye Kyo and his best friend Lee Kwang Soo of Running Man fame as true Hallyu stars. It's nice that he's not letting this fame get to his head and choosing to focus on continuing to work hard and challenge himself as an actor. This photoshoot took place a few days after Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's HK ViuTV press conference. The bird emblazoned fashions are pretty ugly but the more classic and graphic looks he is wearing are nice especially the maroon sweater with the blue arrows. Joong Ki is back to his signature flower boy image here. Personally I thought his Yoo Shi Jin look was hotter but he's mighty fine nonetheless and his hair looks phenomenal. The credit for that has to go his new stylist Lee Hye Young who is coincidentally Song Hye Kyo's longtime personal hairstylist. It's interesting how these two now share a hairstylist as well as the same circle of friends. Yes I still believe that SongSong are dating especially since neither none of them have actually outright denied it. Anyway let's enjoy Joong Ki's magnificent hair while we can since he will be shaving his head for his role as a freedom fighter in Battleship Island which begins filming in July. In the meantime he's fast becoming the CF king of Asia as it seems like he is signing a new endorsement deal every day lately. Check out Joong Ki in this Harper's Bazaar editorial from 2013 where he was featured alongside Won Bin and Jo In Sung who happen to be two of the actors who turned down Descendants of the Sun before he was cast. While they both have an edge in terms of looks and height, I can't imagine anyone else but Song Joong Ki as Yoo Shi Jin!

When Masks For All Your Skin Needs

April 27, 2016

When Masks, When Mask, When Masks Review, Sheet Mask, Asian Beauty, Sheet Masks at Sephora, Korean Sheet Mask

I'm not someone who has an addictive personality but I might just have a slight addiction to sheet masks. I've been using them on and off for a number of years but lately sheet masking has become more of a frequent step.I prefer them to wash off type facial masks because you can skip the washing afterwards. I follow a multi-step Asian skincare routine and usually apply sheet masks 4 - 5 times a week. The positive results on my skin encourage me to keep it up because better skin equals less makeup. I use a variety of sheet masks and definitely have some favorites which are mostly from Korean brands with specific functions and natural and nourishing ingredients. I'm also attracted to unusual ingredients like snail mucin, propolis and horse oil. When Masks had caught my eye at Sephora so I was thrilled when I had opportunity to try them out.

About the Brand:  J.C People is the Korean based company behind the When brand. When Masks were launched in July 2011 as premium face masks using advanced bio-cellulose technology for superior adhesion and hydrating effects. The company maintains a philosophy that "Beauty is skin deep." and their mission is to develop and deliver sustainable, high value, effective and reliable products with innovative functions and creative design.

Eye Candy : Editorial Roundup

Jin Goo, Jin Goo Cosmopolitan

Yes it's been a little over a week since Descendants of the Sun ended but I'm still talking about it here because I wanted to give a little love to the GooWon couple otherwise known as Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won who played the secondary couple Seo Dae Young and Yoon Myung Joo. Their story didn't particularly move me since it was more of the typical K-drama romance and I found her character's actions a little creepy in the beginning. If she had been the male, it would have been considered stalker behaviour. Nonetheless I enjoyed both of their performances and rooted for them. Unlike Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki, these two have been making a number of magazine appearances and even did one together for Grazia. I liked the way this photo seemed to echo their DOTS characters. Jin Goo also looked dapper in Cosmopolitan in this bunny emblazoned shirt. Someone should tell him that he should always wear his hair like Seo Dae Young because the man bangs he favors in real life are not that attractive. Good thing he has such a nice face. Kim Ji Won looks summer ready in her pictorial for InStyle. I love her hairstyle and hat.

I'm also rounding up some other eye catching images here from other recent celebrity editorials just because I haven't done this in awhile and there are some really good ones. I can always tell who actually pays attention with these posts cause some people will just comment on the first photo thinking that it's a single image post or it's the same person featured throughout.

Current Mood

April 20, 2016
Cute Doll Couple, Pullip Doll Couple

Loving... the warm up (like finally!) and seeing NYC in bloom. Winter returned briefly and totally confused all the flowers and trees. The cherry blossoms downstairs are starting to peek out. Vintage photo of Rena and Ian daydreaming under the blossoms.

Listening... to CN Blue's Blueming. Totally loving their new song You're So Fine!

Eating... lots of avocados. Our local market has been selling organic avocados for $1 each. It's too good a deal to pass up and my skin is totally reaping the benefits. Baked eggs in avocado is a current favorite.

Drinking... homemade matcha green tea lattes. I don't know why I stopped having these but I love them again.

Trying... oil pulling again. I have a strong gag reflex which coconut oil seemed to exacerbate but it's not as bad when I use sesame oil.

Stopped by... Salvation Burger but the wait for a table was like an hour for dinner so we'll have to swing by another time. I guess everyone wants to try their much talked about $25 burger.

Watching... baseball again. The Yankees have gotten off to an inconsistent start but 162 games is a long season so they still have plenty of time to get better. Hoping to make it to Yankee stadium for a game this year.

Wearing... my trench coats and light parkas. I just cleaned our winter coats and packed them away.

Just ordered... these sneakers. It's rare that I fall in love with something and immediately get them but I did just that with these Vejas since I could totally see them going with so many things in my closet.

Looking forward... to checking out this public art installation featuring cute and massive bunnies on display at Brookfield Place.

What's up with you?

Currently Coveting

Fashion Wish List

Can you guess that I'm looking forward to summer based on this month's wish list? I usually want spring to last as long as possible but for some reason, I kind of want summer to arrive sooner this year. I'll probably be singing a different tune when it really is hot though. What are you coveting lately?

1. H&M Cotton Dress
{ Breezy feminine dresses like this are pretty much all I want to wear during the warmer months.}

2. J Crew Scalloped One Piece Swimsuit
{ So sleek and scallops are one of my favorite details. }

3. & Other Stories Zig Zag Cuff
{ Because minimalist chic jewelry is my jam. }

4. Loeffler Randall Rio Runner Sneaker
{ Sneakers are just so stylish these days! }

5. & Other Stories Scalloped Blouse
{ Gotta love a top that's both feminine and versatile.}

6. H&M Pleated Chiffon Skirt
{ The colors and pattern are so fun and this length is my favorite. }

Eye Candy : Song Hye Kyo & Song Joong Ki for W

April 15, 2016
Song Hye Kyo, SongSong Couple, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo dating, Descendants of the Sun, 송혜교, 송중기, 송중기

Descendants of the Sun came to an end yesterday and millions of people including myself were watching. This just might be the most successful South Korean drama of all time given it's record breaking worldwide popularity and earnings. It wasn't perfect but it was highly entertaining and my Wednesdays and Thursdays won't be the same anymore but at least I'll probably be a little more productive haha. I'm still on a high but the withdrawal will kick in soon. Song Hye Kyo really shined as Kang Mo Yeon especially in the last few episodes. Song Joong Ki has been getting all the attention but she deserves every bit as much praise for her incredibe emotionally resonating performance. These two along with the drama better be sweeping this year's KBS drama awards. Anyway my obsession for the drama has translated into a bit of an obsession with the main OTP as well. And it's not just me since W Korea recently brought back this striking editorial of Song Hye Kyo photographed by Hong Jang Hyun from 2009. This has always been one of my favorite shoots as Hye Kyo took to the streets of Miami looking equally edgy and glamorous in a cropped coif, red lipstick and an assortment of chic dresses. I remember people were going crazy back then because they thought she had cut her hair but she was just wearing a wig and she pulled it off. You can probably pull off anything with her beautiful face though. And since Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki  remain inextricably linked for me cause like SongSongCouple, I'm also including a W pictorial featuring Joong Ki from 2011. Not loving his hair but the fashions are definitely sharp and Joong Ki had that smoldering gaze down even back then. If these editorials convince me of anything it's that these two must be vampires because they don't seem to age. It would've been awesome if we could've gotten a joint photoshoot like the one that Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won did for Grazia. or this amazing Vogue pictorial  that Hye Kyo did with her My Palpitating Life co-star Kang Dong Won. I suspect they're probably afraid that their real life chemistry would just be too obvious. Yes I'm still shipping KiKyo!

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were both in the news this week as Joong Ki who was recently appointed an honorary Korea tourism ambassador accompanied President Park Geun Hye to the opening ceremony of the new K-Style Hub Traditional Korean Cuisine Cultural Center. And it was reported that Hye Kyo turned down a million dollar advertising campaign from Mitsubishi Motors due to the company's involvement in Japanese atrocities in World War II which is really admirable. Just declare these two the national couple already!

For anyone in the US who has been interested in watching Descendants of the Sun, it is now available with English subtitles on Hulu. It is also available with online with subtitles in multiple languages on Dramafever in addition to

A Fun Date Night At Muse Paintbar

April 13, 2016
Muse Paintbar Tribeca, Muse Paintbar Review, Muse Tribeca

My husband and I make it a habit of going out on dates regularly and we're always on the lookout for fun new activities to try together. Muse Paintbar recently invited us to take part in one of their painting sessions. Neither one of us happens to be particularly artistically inclined in that way so we thought it would be a fun challenge. We checked out their online calendar to choose a date and time, booked our session and showed up to paint. We selected a Saturday night class with a Celestial Seascape that featured a painted sky greeting the moon and stars.

J:DEW Green Moist Cream Review

April 11, 2016
J:Dew Green Moist Cream Review, J:Dew Green Moist, Q-Depot

These days my beauty interests lie way more in skincare than makeup and more in Asian beauty products than Western ones. I'm particularly keen on exploring natural and green beauty options in the Asian market so I was very interested when Q-Depot wrote to me to introduce the J:DEW brand and offered to send me a product from their line to review.

About the Brand: J:DEW is an eco-friendly and natural brand that seeks to support healthy lifestyles. The name J:Dew stands for Jeju's Dew since the company and it's production facilities are based on Jeju Island. A popular vacation destination often referred to as the Hawaii of South Korea, Jeju is best-known for it's clean waters, refreshing breezes, and warm sunshine. The J:DEW brand is currently very popular in Korea and they are looking to expand within the Asian and US markets.

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo In Hong Kong

April 8, 2016
Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo, Song Hye Kyo Instagram, SongSong Couple, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo dating, 송혜교, 송중기, 송중기

Descendants of the Sun fans like myself were treated to a rather healthy dose of Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki eye candy this week as the stunning co-stars landed in Hong Kong to promote the broadcast of Descendants of the Sun on ViuTV. Song Hye Kyo posted these super adorable photos with Song Joong Ki on her Instagram. That fist bump! It was great fan service since people have been burning up her comments pleading for a pic of the SongSong couple as they've been nicknamed. Hye Kyo even acknowledged this by calling the photos "a gift for those who have waited so patiently" and saying that "Since Captain Yoo doesn't have an Instagram account, I'm doing an update spam" I usually get annoyed when my IG feed is spammed but these made my day.

Quick & Easy Lunch : Tonno Tuna with Cucumbers

April 6, 2016
Easy Lunch Recipe

I'm pretty lucky that I get to work from home most of the time. This is great since it helps to save money on lunch. Our leftovers mostly get packed for my husband's lunch so I will usually make my own. Those of you who follow me on Instagram probably know that I eat a little of everything but I generally like to keep it light on the carbs and focus more on vegetables especially during the weekdays. This is one of my favorite quick and healthy lunches that I came up with on the fly one day when it was like let's just throw something together with what's in the pantry. The ingredients are key though. It really works best with good tonno tuna and persian cucumbers for texture and taste. Tonno tuna is an Italian style solid light pack tuna in pure olive oil. My favorite is this one from Cento which tastes delicious and is dolphin safe. I don't know if you can even call this a recipe since it's that easy!

Sailing Around NYC With Hornblower Cruises

April 4, 2016

I've been a New York City resident my entire my life and I never tire of the city because I feel like there are always new things to discover about it and new ways to enjoy it. Hornblower Cruises invited to me join them on an Easter Sunday champagne brunch cruise that sails around lower Manhattan and offers views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governors Island, the Brooklyn Bridge and NYC’s iconic skyline.

Through My Lens : Recently On Instagram

April 1, 2016
Spring flowers, pink flower

The recent news of Instagram changing their algorithm has gotten some people all worked up. I don't particularly like or know what the change will bring but I certainly don't appreciate the mass hysteria and all the posts from panicked users asking people to turn on post notifications. I won't be putting up one of those nor will I be turning on any post notifications. Considering I feel like my feed is being spammed by anyone who posts multiple times in a row, I definitely wouldn't want a notification every time someone posts. I don't have notifications turned on for any other of the social media apps that I use either since I prefer to browse them at my leisure.

I've read several articles about the changes just so I could understand what is actually happening. First of all, Instagram has already stated that the change has not occurred yet. It is slated for the coming months and users will be notified beforehand. Basically once this change rolls out, instead of a chronological order, your
 feed will be based on the likelihood of your interest in the content, your relationship with the poster and the timeliness of the post. This new feed will still effectively contain all of the posts from everyone you follow, it will just be in a different order.

So instead of asking people to turn on notifications, which could likely end up with people getting annoyed by too many notifications, it would be better idea to start engaging more with the Instagram accounts you currently enjoy with likes and comments while encouraging your followers to do the same with your posts since Instagram will be tailoring your feed based on your activity. Genuine engagement is always better anyway.

Anyway back to our regularly scheduled programming. Hello April! March was a good month and I was more than happy to welcome spring and get out a little more. Here are a few  highlights from last month. To see more, click over to my Instagram feed and if you like what you see, please follow along.
