Style Crush : Liu Wen

July 31, 2013

I'm loving the modestly elegant debossed lace brown and black Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2013 ensemble that model Liu Wen wore on the brown carpet of the luxury label's Beijing flagship opening last Friday. She kept it simple, accessorizing with a taupe clutch and black pumps. I'm not usually a fan of the color brown but the shimmer and textural effect of the fabric along with the charming retro chic silhouette are totally working for me. And of course Liu Wen looks amazing. What do you think of this look?

Eye Candy : Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byung Hun for Elle

July 29, 2013

Red 2 co-stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byung Hun cozy up in front of Kim Young Jun's lens for the August 2013 issue of Elle Korea. The accompanying pictorial featuring the 43 year old pair against a Beverly Hills backdrop is nice if a tad uninspired in my opinion. Surely there are poses other than face touching and don't get me started on the excessive Photoshopping. CZJ's green Louis Vuitton dress is beautiful though and LBH wears a tux well. He will no doubt suit up again when he weds actress Lee Min Jung next month in Seoul. Lee Byung Hun may be better known for action roles since he played Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe movies but he's an accomplished actor who has earned much critical acclaim throughout his career. I recently watched Masquerade (Gwanghae: The Man Who Became King) and his dual role performance was stellar in that film. What do you think of this editorial? Have you watched Red 2?

Li Bingbing for Madame Figaro

July 26, 2013

Madame Figaro follows up last month's stunning Michelle Reis cover and pictorial with this equally gorgeous one featuring Li Bingbing. I love that it's in black and white and the photo above is my favorite. The lovely actress who was named Variety's 2013 Asian Star of the Year recently joined the cast of Transformers 4 which will be a joint US/China co-production. Her last Hollywood project was Resident Evil Retribution in which she played Ada Wong who was one of my favorite characters from the game. I haven't watched the film yet cause I don't think the movies are quite on par with the games. I was rather surprised to learn that Li Bingbing is 40 because she certainly doesn't look it all. Would you agree?

Recent Loves

Takeya Flash Chill Lemonade Maker : I love lemonade but the commercial stuff is full of sugar and crap so I make my own with filtered water, lemons and coconut sugar. This pitcher makes it so easy. The juicer attaches to the top and extracts the juice with virtually no effort or waste directly into the pitcher. Then you just add water and your choice of sweetener, replace the top, shake and your lemonade is ready. It's great for Arnold Palmers too cause you can just use some brewed tea in place of water. Products which make life easier and look good are awesome!

GlamGlow Super Mud Clearing Treatment : I use this mask whenever my skin is feeling a little congested. As it dries, little dots appear and you can see that toxins are being drawn out of your pores. It exfoliates, clears and tightens without drying, leaving a fresh radiant glow that I swear lasts for a few days. Admittedly, it is a little pricey but it totally works which is what counts as far as I'm concerned.

Mary Jo Matsumoto Naked State of Mind 4FREE Nail Polish : I've written about how much I love this polish before and it's my been my go to this summer which is why it's a recent love. Besides being 4FREE, it's such a wearable pretty pinky nude color. Best of all, it's a dream to apply and long wearing which is usually about 2 weeks for me. That is a win! It comes in some other pretty fabulous colors as well.

Have you tried any of these products? And do tell if you have any recent loves.

Color Love : Mint

July 22, 2013

I don't know if it's because it's been so hot in NYC this summer but I find that I'm more attracted to cool hues of late. And my favorite shade is currently mint. It all started with the mint dot J. Crew jeans I picked up on sale and can't get enough of. Since then I've been browsing for more minty items to add to my closet. Is this a color you like? What do you pair it with?

Eye Candy : Kitty Zhang Yuqi for Marie Claire

July 17, 2013

Kitty Zhang Yuqi is looking lovely as she covers Marie Claire China for the seventh time. She steps into an enchanted garden in the accompanying editorial. I don't actually know all that much about this 26 year old actress who hails from Shandong, China. She came to fame through Stephen Chow's science fiction comedy CJ7 which is the only film I've seen her inI do know that she was a real red carpet head turner at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Kim had mentioned to me that her stunning olive green Ulyana Sergeenko gown was one of her favorite looks and I concur.

Review : eShakti

July 15, 2013

Since I practically live in dresses during the summer, my interest was piqued when eShakti reached out to me about reviewing their product. eShakti is an online apparel retailer that carries an impressive range of chic yet modest dresses, skirts and tops for women sizes 0-36. And on top of that, they offer custom fit and styling options that let you tailor products to your preference for a flattering fit and unique look.

After some deliberation, I chose this lovely sleeveless, v-neck, crepe number. While I didn't go for the custom sizing or details, I did check out the customization tools which are easy to use and allow variations to sleeve types, necklines and hem lengths. For some styles there is also an embellishment option. This dress may as well have been custom tailored for me because the shape and styling is precisely what I would've chosen if I had designed it myself. I didn't even have to alter the length because it was already offered in my preferred midi length which is not always that easy to find. I don't know how many cute dresses I've passed on simply because I found them too short. I really like how the banded waist provides definition and plays up the contrast of the varying prints while the fit and flare silhouette is both feminine and figure flattering. The fabric is a good weight and thick enough that I don't need to wear a slip underneath. I probably sound like an old granny for saying that but I actually still wear slips when needed. My favorite feature is the pockets cause pockets on dresses rock! The one detail I had an issue with was the bust darts which can stick out and create a triangle effect. This was corrected by smoothing down the bodice but it's something I'll have to be aware of whenever I wear it.

I would definitely recommend eShakti if you're looking for an everyday or a special occasion dress. They also have a fantastic section devoted to bridesmaids. They frequently update their styles which are pretty reasonably priced with many items under $100. They also run promotions often like giving you a $25 credit when you register with the site. Have you ever shopped or worked with eShakti before? What was your experience like?

DiscIosure received a complimentary dress from eShakti for the purposes of this review. I was not provided any other compensation and all opinions expressed here are 100% my own.

Rena & Me : Bobbed

July 10, 2013

So Rena and I switched up our hair to shorter bobs for the summer in an effort to try to stay cool. Her hair is way more manageable than mine though especially when it's humid and it's been really humid in NYC lately. What's your go to summer hair style? Any tips for fighting humidity?

I'm wearing my Firmoo frames here. These are one of the styles you can win in my international Firmoo Eyewear Giveaway which ends this Friday. Rena has some really cute glasses of her own as well.

Style Crush : Song Hye Kyo

July 8, 2013

Song Hye Kyo is a top star who is known to shun the spotlight and doesn't appear on many red carpets so it's always a treat when she is spotted at an event. The beautiful actress who just came off a highly successful run with her drama That Winter, The Wind Blows was in Shanghai recently for the opening of The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited exhibit in which she was one of the models. Staying true to her elegant and understated style, she wore a Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2013 black tweed dress with contrasting white framed shoulders and a gently belled hem. I really like how the dress has both an architectural and feminine feel and the vibrant floral print python Jimmy Choo Lola platform peep toe pumps she paired it with lends a fun touch. Her soft and romantic hair and makeup finished off the look perfectly. Hye Kyo's next project finds her starring opposite Takeshi Kaneshiro and Huang Xiao Ming in John Woo's The Crossing which has been touted as a historical romantic epic. That will be a seriously good looking love triangle! What do you think of this look?

I wrote about the Little Black Jacket exhibit which I visited when it made a stop in NYC last summer. Song Hye Kyo's rollerskating photo was one of my favorites. Below is a behind the scenes image with Karl Lagerfeld.

Shoe Crush : Christian Louboutin Madame Mouse

July 3, 2013

If there is any shoe that would be the ultimate expression of whimsical sophistication, it is the Christian Louboutin Madame Mouse. These glossy black patent pumps have a mesh front inset topped with a pair of charming cartoonish mouse "ears" and of course they're finished with the signature Louboutin red lacquered soles. Total shoe swoon.

We have a long weekend in the States starting tomorrow, thanks to the July 4th holiday.
Happy Independence Day to all my U.S. friends and readers!

Eye Candy : Michelle Reis for Madame Figaro

July 1, 2013

Michelle Reis won the Miss Hong Kong pageant at the young age of 18. She went onto a career in acting which she eventually retired from shortly after she was married in 2008. The former beauty queen is now a 43 year old mother of one and she's still as ravishing as ever in this glamorous editorial photographed by Chen Man for Madame Figaro China. She always stood out in the TVB dramas I used to watch because she was so tall and pretty. It's amazing how she doesn't appear to have aged much at all. That silver sequin Fendi dress she's wearing on the cover is a real stunner.
