Jun Ji Hyun almost seems as if she could be channeling her character of Cheon Song Yi in these editorial images lensed by Jeon Seung Hwan. I debated whether to share these and settled on featuring just my favorite photos from both the Harper's Bazaar Korea and Harper's Bazaar China pictorials because I felt neither were entirely that strong on their own and the excessive Photoshopping on some of the images is absolutely perplexing to me. See what I mean below. She's looking pretty incredible in the "original" image on the left yet somehow they decided she wasn't tall enough for the Chinese edition and the result just looks so wrong. I felt a need to mention this because I find it generally disturbing and this is the type of thing that creates unrealistic body image issues for people as if that wasn't enough of a problem already. If you're curious, here are links to the entire Korean editorial and the entire Chinese editorial. The last time I cited an overuse of Photoshop was in this Elle editorial with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byung Hun.
There's no denying that she totally pulls off all the key SS 2014 designer looks she's wearing though. Ji Hyun and her costar Kim Soo Hyun are now more popular than ever thanks to the highly successful run of their recent fantasy romance drama You Who Came From the Stars which I'm finally getting around to watching now. I can't say it's even close to being my favorite K-drama this year but Jun Ji Hyun's amazing wardrobe has kept my interest. And her performance as a haughty actress who falls in love with an alien who has lived on Earth for 400 years is rather spot on. She is also known as Gianna Jun and has made several Hollywood films including Blood The Last Vampire and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (the book was much better than the movie btw).

Gorgeous images. And her hair!! Her hair is perfection.
Shes gorgeous as is, i cant believe that they photoshop to make her look taller. The styling is perfection, right down to the makeup. Have a good week!
a perfect model! love the editorial
ciao
She's so gorgeous already. Boggles the mind why the need to photoshop her height...like, really? Sigh...
Hi Rowena, Im glad you talk about this today, I see is a "hot" topic at the moment and Im also little disturbed when I see a huge use of Photoshop. I mean, if it is useful for the photo/campaign/editorial (and I mean for lights or little adjustaments) its fine but in this case is like transform the model. She was already beautiful in that pic, the legs appear so unnatural and too exaggerate! Ive checked out both editorials and the style is to die for though. Would have been so even without Photoshop. Hope you had a nice weekend dear, wish you a great week! Many hugs and kisses!:*
It's a beautiful editorial and she looks absolutely gorgeous, especially the first shot, but I am with you on the photoshop issue - why take a beautiful shot and make it look so odd and off-putting?... x
LOL at the photoshop comparison - so fake and unnecessary!
Jun Ji Hyun is gorgeous as always, love the dresses she is wearing here! ;)
She is beautiful and flawless great post doll.

She is stunning, love the clothes in this editorial...gorgeous!! I think the over-use of photoshop in a lot of editorials is so un-needed and extreme. No one looks like that and no one wants to see it really, we want something real. She is stunning on her own and not in need of photoshop!! xx
She is very pretty! But she looks weird when they make her long like that. Sometimes I think all these actresses sort of look the same :/
She's gorgeous and particularly love the Balmain and Kenzo dresses on her, she has a model figure. I forgot to tell you I took the plunge and went for a bob last week, its taking some time getting used to after having such long hair, but so much easier to maintain. Wishing you a fruitful week ahead hun!
Oh my this is such a beautiful editorial! Everything looks so perfect on her! I especially love the structured cropped jacket! Looks amazing!

All lovely. I especially love the short blue jacket on her. She rocks it and makes it look so feminine.

WHOA she looks abnormally lengthy in the china version! so sad they feel like they have to photoshop like that. she is a definite beauty for sure, like you said!
She is beautiful! I always find it perplexing when they take such natural beauty and tweak it....just wrong on so many levels. Some very cool pieces in this spread! Hope you are well friend! Nicole xoxo
Great outfits and such a pretty model! I do wonder about the demographic of these photoshopped mags - older ladies who are more used to photoshop and can afford the luxury of magazines? Or younger, splurging on fashion and just getting messed up for life in terms of body image? Ha, a mystery! Hope you are off to a happy new week Rowena!

:/ it's rather disturbing to see the same picture which was approved in one country and then manipulated and photoshopped to fit in another's publication.. those legs don't even look real! And what's with the pink tone? She's beautiful and didn't need to be altered at all!
Anyhoo, I just picked up a copy of the book you recommended a few days ago (online) and turns out my mother actually wanted to watch the movie but missed it and couldn't remember the title, only that it was about 2 girls who wrote secret notes passed on fans. She saw me adding the book to the cart and asked what it was about. Such a coincidence!
Thanks for the recommendation, cant wait for my book to arrive! :D
Rowena, I wonder sometimes if execs really hear us. People talk about this all the time, yet they still do this kind of stuff. They made her taller and thinner. What was the point of that? She's beautiful and the other shots are lovely. Thanks for pointing this out.

Wow she looks so beautiful! In the UK, they have this new trend at the moment where being skinny is a crime and everyone should embrace their curvy selves, but the message is still not getting through. I think everyone should embrace their body shape, but it is indeed hard when we get photoshopped images of our idols like this. The picture on the right is actually pretty disturbing because she is a skinny lady already. I'm glad you did a comparison so we could see the harsh realities of photoshopping.
How interesting that you dip into Graham Norton on the odd occasion. I wouldn't think he would be aired in the States. My favourite interview show was Piers Morgan, I think. I know he gets a lot of stick but I always thought he got a lot out of his interviewees. I don't really know what happened to him in America but I know his show got cancelled and he got a lot of hate which is never needed.
That is exactly how I felt about Downton Abbey too - usually I don't watch programmes unless I can watch them from the beginning, but I missed out on the start of Downton Abbey and there was so much hype around it I almost felt pressured into watching. If it has done well in the States then it has done very well indeed.
Feel like I haven't chatted to you in a while. Hope you're doing well. Rosemary X

Hi Rowena,
Haha! looks like we love the same editorial, I was working on this yesterday, but didn't really notice the photoshop issues until you mentioned here. Have not posted it up thought... perhaps soon. Yes, I do agree too much of photoshop is definitely not a good thing! She is slim and tall to begin with already!
She was never really my favourite actor... cheers!
Great editorial Rowena. Good for you for mentioning the elongation of her legs. The media continues to create unrealistic images of a woman and the result isn't good. We, along with our children seem to be growing up in a culture that's more and more about following along with what's seen and heard on television and in magazines.
I hope you are having a nice day today:):) xxleslie
This is the reason why I don't envy these women on magazine covers, the editing and Photoshop is just insane. She is beautiful though.

She's just stunning! Pulls off every look - that last dress! Amazing!
She's already stunning and slender, I really don't understand why they use Photoshop so much, she looks fine without it. Beautiful editorial, I love that blue jacket. :)
