Eye Candy : Ji Chang Wook for Esquire

October 30, 2015

Ji Chang Wook is at his sartorial best, gracing the cover of Esquire Korea's Men of Our Time issue. This rising star definitely fits that description and his boyishly handsome looks complement all the stylish fashions he models from the sharp three piece glen plaid suit to the urbane tuxedo with tails. The tux look made me recall the drama Five Fingers in which he played a concert pianist who was a little ragey, jealous and even crazy at times. I could never get into that one because of the outrageous level of makjang but I was impressed that Chang Wook was willing to rise to the challenge of a villainous role. There are some actors who seem to play the same characters over and over and he seems like he actually wants to step outside of his comfort zone. Just another reason why I'm a fan. And can we just talk about how amazing he and his hair look here. I'm quite liking the thick soled brogues he is sporting throughout the editorial. They appear to have blue bottoms which is quite cool. A special shoutout to Anouk who now shares my obsession admiration for him. Enjoy!

Champagne Taittinger Uncage My Heart

October 26, 2015
Champagne Taittinger, Taittinger Champagne

Champagne Taittinger is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated Grand Marque Champagne houses in France. Taittinger is the second largest vineyard or domaine owner in the region giving them ultimate control of quality from vine to bottle. The Champagnes are Chardonnay dominant, which gives them their elegance, delicacy and finesse. Taittinger is widely distributed around the world in 140 countries.

I recently attended a press event entitled "Uncage My Heart" that highlighted new interpretations of Valentine’s Day menus and décor concepts with Champagne Taittinger. Attendees were taken on a "journey of the heart" starting with a Bubble Bash with friends to First Date to Lasting Love. Each featured hand selected Champagne Taittinger wines paired with a menu of delicious bites prepared by celebrated Chef Camille Becerra of Navy restaurant in New York City. Chef Beccera also gave a live cooking demonstration on how to make chocolate mousse.

Champagne Taittinger, Taittinger Champagne

Our hostess, Vitalie Taittinger, Global Ambassador and Artistic Director of Champagne Taittinger led us on a guided presentation with a tasting of six different Taittinger Champagnes. This included the classic Taittinger Brut La Française, Prestige Rosé, Nocturne, Prélude Grands Crus and Comtes de Champagne Rosé. It was fascinating to learn a little about each champagne as well as it's particular nuances and tasting notes. The Comtes was my favorite and we learned that it is ideally paired with meats and desserts. Coincidentally it also happened to the most expensive of everything we tried. Another highlight was the filling of the champagne tower. This definitely added to the already festive mood. And the fun didn't end there as guests were all given our very own bottle of Taittinger to take home. I've talked about how I'm not much of a drinker before but I gained a new appreciation for champagne at this event and picked up some fabulous entertaining ideas as well.

Do you drink champagne? What's your favorite?

Farmacy Beauty, Powder Cleanser, Natural Cleanser, Exfoliating Cleanser

I have to say that powder face cleansers fascinate me because of the way they transform into a luscious lather when mixed with water and because the powder is dry, it makes them perfect to travel with. I've tried a number of them and there are some I like more than others but I'm always open to what's out there. I was really impressed with Farmacy Beauty's Coconut Gel Mask so I had a feeling I might also like their New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains.

We Are Knitters for Breast Cancer Awareness

We Are Knitters, Breast Cancer Awareness, Knitting Kit

I was introduced to We Are Knitters at a recent bloggers event where I also got reacquainted with knitting. I first learned to knit some years ago and somehow never quite got past making scarves and for that I blame my short attention span. Anyhow, I now have a renewed interest in getting past scarves. We Are Knitters makes it easy to complete new knitting projects with fully assembled kits that come with everything you need from start to finish. We were supplied with kits for a beginner level Braille Beanie and we commenced knitting our beanies with some expert guidance from an experienced knitter at the event which was really helpful. It had been so long since I last knit that I had some issues with properly controlling the tension on the stitches so I actually had to restart it a few times to get it right. I haven't had much time to work on my hat but I'm hoping to be able to finish it before the end of the year. I got the pretty aquamarine colored yarn and the petite Peruvian wool is really soft and easy to work with.

We Are Knitters, Breast Cancer Awareness, Knitting Kit

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, We Are Knitters has created the Solidarity Diva Beanie Kit with 10% of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) throughout October. Sadly with the odds that one in eight women may develop breast cancer in her lifetime, most of us either will be touched by someone battling or who has battled the disease. It's really important to promote awareness through education to increase survival rates through early detection and improving treatments and technology.

Eye Candy : Song Hye Kyo for J. Estina

October 16, 2015
Song Hye Kyo

Song Hye Kyo continues to captivate as the face of J. Estina. The stunning actress models pieces from the Korean brand's latest Noir Tiara, Ella Cruna and Spazio jewelry collections as well as their handbag line. Her elegant beauty is the perfect compliment to the both the delicate and bolder pieces. I'm just loving the gorgeous tiara necklace she is wearing in the first two photos and the chic bucket bag. What is catching your eye?

Burberry Art Of The Trench

October 14, 2015
Yao Chen Burberry Art Of The Trench

I love a good trench coat as it's one those fashion staples that can instantly elevate an outfit while adding a dash of classic chic. It is also the perfect transitional outerwear both for cooler and warmer climates depending on how you layer it. The Burberry Trench is iconic in fashion and in 2009, Burberry launched their Art of The Trench website as "a living document of the trench coat and the people who wear it". It's a site that enjoy viewing every so often for fashion inspiration and Asian celebrity spotting as a few faves like Zhao Wei, Chen Kun and Yao Chen have popped up. Of course they're included here with some others that caught my eye. I currently own 4 trench coats. This is my favorite at the moment and I hope to add a Burberry trench to my collection. This is one that I've been eyeing.  Are you a trench coat fan?

October 12, 2015

I definitely believe in the power of oxygen considering this facial treatment that I had recently. Oxygen has proven skin benefits because it stimulates the body's natural healing function. If you can't get to the the spa, you can still get similar results in an at home treatment with a product like the Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial.

Embracing... messy hair. I just had my hair cut and I asked my stylist to really piece out my a-line bob this time. It's no longer sleek like this and I love how it works with the natural wave in my hair and lends well to a more undone look. Maybe I'll break my no selfie rule and post a pic on Instagram soon.

Reading... China Rich Girlfriend. It took me forever to get around to reading Crazy Rich Asians but I finished it in a day during jury duty earlier this year. I look forward to starting this sequel soon and getting through it without interruption.

Watching... 1N2D again since finding it on Youtube. The first season of this Korean variety show was my favorite and it had the best cast. We gave it another chance since Running Man has gone to crap lately and I have a renewed enjoyment for it. The current cast is pretty fun too with the exception of Jung Joon Young who just seems like a rude little prick.

Listening... to Standing Egg and loving their mellow sound.

Eating... stews again. We went off them during the summer cause they can be heavy but stews are so easy and great when it's cool outside. Our favorite is an Asian style ox tail stew. I keep a jar of the sauce which I reuse and the flavor gets better every time.

Drinking... hot lemon water with a little manuka honey. I started having this when I had a minor cold the other week and have been supplementing my daily hot lemon water with another cup with manuka honey.

Amused... by Socality Barbie. This parody account is total genius in the ironical way it pokes fun at all of the most clichéd types of photos on Instagram. The pictures are actually really well done and they're almost like a primer on the kinds of photos one should stay away from if they don't want to be like everyone else.

Wearing... jeans and sneakers most of the time. Hey I like to be comfortable.

Enjoying... the charms of autumn in New York City and also staying in more as the weather chills.

Eyeing... this lovely herringbone patterned coat!

Looking forward to... the nice fall weather to hang around for awhile before winter arrives.

What's up with you?

Through My Lens : Recently On Instagram

October 5, 2015
World Trade Center at Night

There was alot going on in September yet somehow the month didn't seem to zoom by as quickly as August. The weather actually still felt somewhat summer up until the last week and now my outerwear is out. Here are a few highlights recently as seen through my lens and posted on Instagram. As usual, I'm not going to overload you with a million pics here so to see more, click over to my Instagram feed and you can also follow if you'd like.

New York is known as the city that never sleeps and it is sometimes even more vibrant and full of energy after dark. I love how the new World Trade Center just lights up our downtown skyline. I caught this spectacular view at the Blue Les Copains show at the Top of the Standard. And check out this gorgeous technicolor sunset too!

Malan Breton SS2016
I attended a few NYFW shows and one of them was for Taiwanese designer Malan Breton's SS2016 collection. The menswear portion featured traditionally inspired Hakka blue shirts and the giant red umbrellas really brought a sense of drama to the presentation.

More Ji Chang Wook & Links à la Mode

October 4, 2015

The only better than Ji Chang Wook in photos is Ji Chang Wook in motion. Here are some gifs I found from his Grazia shoot. Gosh that perfect profile!

Happy Sunday! My post on 10 Things I Do For my Skin was chosen for IFB's Links à la Mode this week!

I was once paid to apply body glitter on male models for a L.A. runway show. Their attire? Oh… swimsuits of the speedo variety. True story. Somehow, picked out of a lineup of fashion peons. I was later convinced that it was my hair, which only a week before had been cut and bleached from long beach blonde locks to a platinum blonde bobbed asymmetric cut. All for the sake of the student vision of my friend, for the opportunity to model her creation in front of Vidal Sassoon himself… HE TOUCHED MY HAIR! And who would have thought, for the chance to apply glitter all over the bodies of male models.

Thank you IFB bloggers for bringing those moments back to memory with your posts of other fashion weeks around the globe. Milan, London, Vienna, and with a special Thai night in Vienna. We Are Ready Made left us with an extensive review of the Prada Show along with wonderfully detailed photos. Purushu Arie gave us some inspiring images of runway fashion next to interior spaces. Candy for the eyes for sure.

There is also a delightful post on cleaning out your closet. However, before you dive into that and take action, be sure to read up on the first Halloween post of the season and a fun little fashion DIY project. Both may have you seeing certain wardrobe pieces in a new light.

And, of course, the Links a la Mode post wouldn’t be complete without the reviews of current trends like the perfect black jumpsuit {said no one until now, or at least since the 80’s}, culottes, black and white, and thigh high boots just to name a few.

Recently, I discovered that my home city of San Diego, California has an upcoming fashion week, and I was looking forward to catching a glimpse of what the locals have to offer, but wouldn’t you know it, it’s all sold out. Can’t a gal catch a break? OK, OK. So, I’ve had a few glittering breaks.

    Ji Chang Wook

We're treated to a double dose of Ji Chang Wook as he is currently appearing in both the Korean and Chinese editions of Grazia. The handsome actor radiates with his usual boyish charm and looks equally at ease dressed up or down. In an accompanying interview, he talks about his soaring popularity and credits his popular dramas Empress Ki and The Healer for introducing him to broader audiences. His humility is one of the reasons I'm a fan. His soulful gaze in the first photo and those puppy dog eyes in the fourth pic are just killing me. Does anyone else find the anklet kind of weird?
