Current Mood

Reading...  Calypso by David Sedaris. Often based on his personal life and observations, his writing is both heartfelt and hysterical and this book is no exception.

Watching...  Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife. This was a must watch after we laughed our way through the hilarious comedienne's first standup special Baby Cobra.  Her particular brand of comedy is quite raucous and real and she successfully manages to send up Asian culture without degrading it. And Ali actually appreciates Asian men. I love how she says they smell like responsibility... it's true!

Listening...  to The Beauty Brains podcast. Two cosmetic scientists answer questions from listeners  about skincare, beauty products, beauty routines and it's all quite fascinating and informative at the same time especially if you're curious about things like if you can make your own sunscreen or how to tell if a product will cause acne among other things.

Eating... salad for breakfast. This works well since I try to eat clean, low sugar and low carb as much as possible and I happen to love salad. I usually do mixed greens and cherry tomatoes with a homemade lemon vinaigrette topped with an egg, tofu, falafel or half an avocado. It's so good and satisfying!

Drinking... green juice. Actually I've been replacing a meal with a juice during the week days. I like the ones from Pressed Juicery because they have options that contain just 1 - 2 grams of sugar.  The Greens 1 & 1.5  and Strawberry Almond are my faves. This is my version of intermittent fasting. I do it to maintain a balance since we tend to eat out more this time of year.

Going out... for midweek date nights. We started doing this a few years ago at my husband's suggestion to give me a break from cooking when it's hot and I don't hate it at all. Had some amazing Detroit style chicken parm pizza at Massoni earlier this week.

Testing... the Foreo UFO smart mask treatment. From the makers of the Foreo Luna cleansing device, the UFO encapsulates a full sheet mask and facial treatment in just 90 seconds. Full review to come.

Enjoying... peony season.

Ordering... this Burberry trench coat. Yes I made my decision and I can't wait to get it now even though I may not be able to wear it until the fall because it's been so warm.

You are so gonna rock that coat, chingu! Isn't it funny how we just kinda went from winter to summer all of a sudden? Sigh....Anyhoo, I must really watch Ali Wong. I've seen bits and pieces of her stand up on YouTube but have never seen a full show. "Smell like responsibility"...bwahaha! So true:D

Calypso seems interesting, I might look this book up.
The Beauty Brains podcasts sounds great. I do like this concept of scientists specializing in cosmetics answering questions. That's really cool! Both skin care and make up have changed so much with the help of science, so it's a fantastic subject to dive into.

I love salad, I could eat it twice a day....it was so hard for me to give it up. It is a shame that with Chron's I'm not allowed to eat raw, because I really love raw fruits and vegetables and besides I think there are many benefits to eating raw foods. I hope that some day I'll be able to eat salad again.

The podcast sounds like a good one, Rowena and salad for breakfast sounds interesting! I usually eat a slice of toast with my coffee but a salad would be a great change.

I gotta try that strawberry almond flavor -- sounds great. And I should go watch that Ali Wong standup. She's fabulous on American Housewife.

Detroit style chicken parm pizza?! Tell me more!
I wish there was peony season here but they are so crazy expensive here ;(
I've heard so many good things about Ali Wong that it's seriously time to watch her stuff! As I get older, I am all about pairing with responsible smells, lol.

Loving posts like this, it's such a vibe! I also adore green juices, I would like to get more into making my own, but it's so much easier to go out and buy some (even if the brands I choose have a lot more sugar than that). I love the idea of midweek date nights, and would definitely love to go on some of these with my boyfriend.

Have a great week!

I see that you are having a healthier diet, during the winter I reduce the consumption of fresh salad by the cold, but in summer it is essential at my table.

My co-worker just told me about Ali Wong, I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Too bad, I didn't get to try Pressed Juicery when I was there. Another reason to go back to NYC! And I love listening to podcast, so will check out the one you're listening to. Have a good day Rowena!
