Dine Out : The Dutch

The Dutch Review, The Dutch Restaurant Review

We recently took advantage of Summer Restaurant Week in NYC with lunch at The Dutch. This buzzy Soho hotspot known for the comfort food options on their regional American menu is also run by chef Andrew Carmellini whose Locanda Verde, we really enjoyed earlier this year. The decor features white brick walls paired with dark wood and has a bistro meets tavern style feel. We were seated in the back dining room which is definitely the less noisy of the two with a view onto Prince Street. We were able to choose three dishes each from their regular menu. This is a plus since a number of restaurants tend to offer up non-representative prix-fixe RW menus. The portions were more than ample and the food was well seasoned and tasty. Beets and avocado are really wonderful together and the fries that came with hubster's burger had great flavor and nice crunch We enjoyed everything except for the cherry crisp dessert because it was too sour. The chocolate semifreddo which was rocky road flavored and paired with a marshmallow sauce made up for it though. The one downer was the air conditioning that was blowing up the banquette side seating. It was so arctic like that it was hard to enjoy our meal due to shivering. The service was friendly and adequate. We'll probably go back to try the fried chicken for which they're famous but I'll wait until it's cold so we don't have to deal with that A/C again.

Oh my, this looks so delicious, Rowena! I would never have thought of pairing beets and avocado together, but now I'm really inspired to give it a try (beets are another thing I'll be able to steal from my parents' garden :) Your dine out posts always give me plenty of cooking inspiration (until I'm able to visit those places for myself :)

Sending you big hug, sweetie!

Looks lovely--how the neighborhood has changed! And the decor is super cool without being overly hipster--perfection. I lived at 150 Sullivan St. for part of grad school and was very happy there! Sounds like you had a great time!

That restaurant looks very New York to me. I think I remember hearing good things about it but it's not really vegetarian friendly so I'll never go.

IiP isn't necessarily putting me to sleep, I've been pretty tired lately. I've also been watching Cyrano which is silly and has "the Giraffe", the lead female from I Need Romance 2K12, and Gong Yoo. I like that but even then, I don't think I've made it through more than one ep. a week. It's summer. :) I have a juice extractor so I can just chop my lemons and stick them in so it helps with the lemonade. I hand juice anything that isn't organic though.

I think the quality at IKEA has gone down to keep prices down but if you are selective it can still have great things. Thanks for the heads up on the English cucumbers, I would have tried that since they are long and thin and don't have many seeds. The seedlings I planted are growing like crazy {and I almost forgot what they were}, so I'll wait for a few more weeks. Cute bunny ate all my hot pepper plants last summer so we weren't on good terms but he's cute and I was able to replant more so it worked out.

The fact that it was cold would totally turn me off. Better a place be too hot that too cold.

Looks like a cool place though (haha-geddit?)

So yummy! The steak tartare and the trout look to die for. Oh my... It's 2am here and I'm so hungry since dinner was only a few hours ago. They probably upped the ac coz it was summer.

Oh gosh, the foood! It looks delicious.

I hear you on the A/C front. It's been incredibly hot in Britain lately however at work, the Aircon is is blowing out ice cold air out. It looks strange with me sat at my desk with a coat on, look outside the window and see people walking by wearing shorts and tees. Ha!

Wow Rowena! Your food photos look so awesome and delicious!! Every time you mention New York - I feel a tug in my heart. It's one place where I've always dreamed of living - even for a short time. :-)) I'm glad you enjoyed your stayvacation NY. I certainly would. And thanks for your comment on the photos. I've been using the new Nikon which we got recently, and I'm quite enjoying using it. I'm trying to figure out how to pack it in with the motorcycle gear. Wish me luck! Chat soon in September!
