Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo In Hong Kong

Descendants of the Sun fans like myself were treated to a rather healthy dose of Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki eye candy this week as the stunning co-stars landed in Hong Kong to promote the broadcast of Descendants of the Sun on ViuTV. Song Hye Kyo posted these super adorable photos with Song Joong Ki on her Instagram. That fist bump! It was great fan service since people have been burning up her comments pleading for a pic of the SongSong couple as they've been nicknamed. Hye Kyo even acknowledged this by calling the photos "a gift for those who have waited so patiently" and saying that "Since Captain Yoo doesn't have an Instagram account, I'm doing an update spam" I usually get annoyed when my IG feed is spammed but these made my day.

The Descendants of the Suns co-leads also attended a live press conference for ViuTV that I actually stayed up past midnight to watch. It was totally worth it for all the cute moments like when Joong Ki broke out some Mandarin to compliment Hye Kyo as being beautiful and their fist bumps there. I also loved the occasion appropriate and elegant attire they both wore. Hyo Kyo looked gorgeous in her custom designed glen plaid dress from the Korean label Bride & You, accessorized with Cartier Dior earrings, a Cartier watch and Louboutin pumps. And Joong Ki was very handsome in his Gucci AW2016 suit and Gucci Jordan loafers.

There was talk that the two would also be appearing in an Elle pictorial together. That didn't happen but Hye Kyo and Joong Ki did pose for some photos for ViuTV which were very pretty. Not that either of them could take a bad photo. Their outfits were also lovely as well though I couldn't find information on them. Hye Kyo's dress looks like it is by Chanel which wouldn't be surprising since she has strong ties to the brand. This is a big deal because the two stars have hardly appeared in any promotional activities for Descendants of the Sun since it began airing which is quite rare. And a major reason for the success is due to Song Joong Ki's and Song Hye Kyo's flawless portrayals of Captain Yoo Shi Jin and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon respectively. That might actually make the fact that the Korean drama has become such a phenomenal global success story all on it's own even more impressive.

The lack of promotion may or may not have something to do with the dating rumors that emerged after the two were reportedly were spotted in New York holding hands and shopping. Both their agencies responded that they're just good colleagues who happened to be there at the same time and had met up for dinner along with their staffs. Notice how they didn't address the actual sighting that sparked the rumor at all. The two have been laying low ever since. Now dating your costar isn't a crime especially if you're both single but for some reason it's frowned upon in South Korea so I can see why they wouldn't rush to confirm anything especially since DotS is still airing and they don't want to take away any attention from the show itself. There is also the factor of crazy Asian female fans who want their Oppa to remain single so they can somehow maintain their fantasies of getting with him. Yes crazy and they do exist. Asian celebrities are also under intense public scrutiny which is why most prefer to date secretly.

I'm fairly convinced that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have crossed over from onscreen lovers to offscreen lovers and it's not just because of their electric chemistry in DotS. There are many compelling clues out there that point to them dating especially in their body language, actions and certain things that have been said/unsaid. A subtle one was actually dropped in SHK's Instagram caption for the fist bump pic and Joong Ki very cleverly danced around a question regarding the rumors when he appeared on the KBS evening news. Like he could've just outright denied them right there and he didn't. So I'm not going to get into more here since I'm not running a gossip site but I will say that I'm a full fledged SongSong/KiKyo shipper. And I'm not the only one considering there are a number of forums and Instagram accounts dedicated to the couple. I like them both as actors but they also seem to be good people who always come across as humble and well mannered IRL as well. Either way they seem to be close friends who enjoy each other's company at the very least so we'll see what happens.
