3B Beauty Box May 2016 Unboxing

I'm still getting the 3B Beauty Box  even though I haven't done an unboxing in a few months. This is my May 2016 box which you can see actually comes in a pouch rather than a box.

3B which stands for Beauty Beyond Borders is a beauty subscription box that makes Asian beauty products more accessible overseas. This is a monthly service that costs $12. Each box contains 4 -5 deluxe samples from a range of brands and the products are supposed to be "new or popular in Asia but hard to get your hands on". I would say that 3B is like an Asian beauty version of Birchbox or Ipsy.  3B is currently just a US based subscription service. This box is ideal for anyone interested in trying out Asian beauty products or can't access them easily. It looks like there ins't a waiting list anymore and you can just sign up for a 3B Box subscription now.

Leaders Brightening Recovery Mask
This premium fermented coconut gel mask contains skin tone improving Telangyn that works in conjunction with brightening Niacinamide to create a double illuminating system that evens out skin tone and restores radiance for a glowing complexion. Vitamin rich ingredients brighten complexion while extracts from plants and flowers help to heal discoloration.A moisturizing mask that brightens dull and uneven skin tones while improving complexion and reducing discoloration. With continuous usage, the mask systematically restores luster and vitality to the skin.

So this is a sheet mask I'm already quite familiar with and a big fan of. I first tried this mask last year before they changed their packaging and liked it so much that I bought a box of 10 which I have since finished but I have picked up a few more. This mask does really work in term s of brightening which is why I like it so much. It also delivers on hydration and is generously loaded with essence. The coconut gel material is nice as well. If I'm going to get something that I've already tried, I'm glad it's one that I love. This mask retails for $7 and it can be purchased directly from Leaders or through Memebox.

Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream (x5)
This luxurious cream is blended with blended with potent Korean medicinal herbs to nourish skin from the inside out. It instantly firms and tones while stimulating collagen for a long-term lift. Adlay millet detoxifies and promotes elasticity while pomegranate, green tea and ginkgo fight free-radicals to maintain youthful radiance. This product can be used as a day or night cream.

I didn't scoff at these sample packets since Sulwhasoo is a high end Korean brand that I really like and use. This cream happens to retail for $95 and it's not one that has even been on my radar so I'm glad for the introduction and that I get to get to try it. I have actually purchased these types of sample pack for for expensive skincare products that I want to try out before buying.

SkinFood Royal Honey Propolis Essence
This essence contains 50% Black Bee Propolis extract, 20% Royal Jelly extract and 10% Royal Black Honey extract. Propolis is a substance that bees create by mixing other botanical ingredients with their saliva and enzymes to protect their hive. It has anti-inflammatory and protective properties and is prized as nature's antibiotic. This product can be used as the first step in your skincare routine following toner.

I've only gotten into propolis as a skincare ingredient recently and it's one that seems to be agreeing well with my skin. This product sounds promising since it also contains honey and royal jelly. I'm looking forward to using this essence. I'm planning an upcoming post on the benefits of propolis.

Dewytree Blackhead Out Nose Patch (x3)
These patches contain volcanic ash from Jeju Island and charcoal extracts to deep clean clogged pores, purge impurities and remove blackheads and whiteheads.

I'm pretty fortunate that blackheads are not a skin issue of mine but my husband gets them sometimes so he will be able to use these patches. I actually have him on his own Asian beauty routine and his current facial cleanser contains Jeju volcanic ash and I can say that it is an effective ingredient for keeping pores clean and clear.

Aritaum Fresh Power Essence Pouch Sleeping Pack
As the name would suggest, this is a sleeping mask that you apply as the last step of your night time skincare and leave on overnight. This pack provides anti-wrinkle, anti-oxidant and skin nourishing benefits.

As a regular sleeping mask user, I do believe they have their merits. I have tried sheet masks from the Aritaum brand and am familiar with the name since it is owned by AmorePacific which is a big time player in the Asian Beauty industry. I happen to like honey in skincare both for it's antiseptic and moisturizing properties. It's particularly good for calming redness and sensitivity as well as blemishes.

The Verdict: So I was more satisfied with this month's "box" than some of the recent months. I liked the skincare focus and even though one of the items was something that I use, it's a really good one and I was introduced to some interesting new products. I also want to commend 3B on stepping it up with their shipping box. It used to be so flimsy and badly sealed that I would be amazed when it would arrive in one piece without anything missing. Starting last month, they've switched to a sturdier box with a more secure seal. This is something I've mentioned in answering their surveys and I would bet I'm not the only one so it's nice that they listened. I also noticed an improvement on the delivery time of the box too. So well done on that. I've been thinking about discontinuing my 3B subscription because I feel like it better serves someone who is new to Asian beauty products than someone like myself who has already been immersed in it for awhile especially since I've received products that I've already tried before. I've also picked up a new subscription beauty box which I'm eagerly awaiting and will tell you all about soon. Anyway I think I'll see how it goes in the next few months and make a decision.

What do you think of these products? Has any one has piqued your interest?

They've all piqued my interest...hahaha...Have been dying to try Sulwhasoo stuff, and one of these days, I might actually just give in. Seriously...getting into the multi-step routine has been so bad for my wallet. I feel like I want them all! Sigh....

I recently was sent two AmorePacific products to try and frankly, I had no idea of the brand until they contacted me. I think I nearly died when I saw how expensive the products are, have you tried anything from them and if yes, what are your thoughts on the brand in general? I haven't try the products yet but I'm afraid that I will love them because it's so bloody expensive.

I look forward to your post on the benefits of propolis, can't believe now when I am living in Canada, I am finally getting more into Asian skincare.

It's really nice that they have improved the service. Personally I am not subscribed to any beauty box, but this one definitely catches my eye. I am interested in the Honey Propolis Essence, as well as in the Nose Patch since I suffer from blackheads, unfortunately. Have a nice day, Rowena!xo

I'm interested in those masks! Whenever I see brightening I get scared, but you have dry sensitive skin also. So I think I'm going to give them a try. Since blogging I've been interested in the Royal Honey products from Skin Food. I want to try them as well. Very good box indeed!

It is an interesting service, considering that the Korean cosmetics becomes increasingly popular, a few days ago I got my mask Pilaten Hydra, and I'm checking its effectiveness in my skin.

This beauty box seems lovely. I see some really interesting products. As you say, it is great for someone who is new to Asian skin products. Still, it might be a good box even for someone who like yourself has been using them for a while. At 12 dollars (if I remember correctly) it is very affordable and since they stepped up their delivery and boxing game, why not stick with them for a while? You can always cancel it later on.

I would use propolis everything if I could. :) I think I have a foil sample of the Skinfood I was going to use this month, I hope it's not sticky but I won't hold my breath on that!

I agree on using samples to try luxury brands. They're so expensive I wouldn't want to pay that much money just to find they don't work for me. Besides, my little Whoo eye cream pot is so tiny it's cute.
