Through My Lens : Recently On Instagram

Changing things up a bit with this month's post. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with this format going forward but I wanted to try it out with a tighter edit since I only share select highlights from Instagram anyway. I don't repost every single photo from Instagram on my blog since I try to share unique content across different types of social media. I might get flamed for saying that but that's what I personally like to see. I mean what's the point of following people on different platforms if they just post the same thing over and over. For more, click on over to Instagram and follow along if you like what see.

April was an interesting month. At times it felt like spring and at times it felt as if we were in the midst of winter again in NYC. This erratic shift in temperature really seems to have stifled the full bloom of some trees and flowers by my observation which is a bummer. I was a semi shut-in while Descendants of the Sun was still airing so I was pretty unproductive on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the mornings when I was live streaming the show. I actually scheduled my work and meetings around that.

  • West Broadway is always nice to stroll along especially when the weather is nice.
  • I've been semi-obsessed with yam leaves since trying them at a restaurant awhile back so I've been living up since they've been in season and cooking them a few times a week. They work well with my tried and true method of sauteeing with garlic, sometimes seasoned with fermented tofu.
  • Pretty tulips spotted in the garden downstairs.
  • Growing up Asian, noodle soup is like the best comfort food next to congee (rice porridge) They do a delicious braised beef noodle soup at Northen Tiger at Hudson Eats even if it is a little pricey.
  • I caught these beautiful blossoms at City Hall Park. I had to hustle quickly after snapping this photo cause that park is like overrun with pigeons which I am both disgusted by and afraid of.
  • My haul from the recent Sephora VIB sale was rather modest. I just didn't really need or want much at the time.
  • Memebox is more my speed in terms of beauty shopping these days. Let me know if you want to see a review on any of these products. The Benton Aloe toner was for my husband and I have a review planned for the Let's Cure Honey Bunny Propolis Ampoule cause my skin seems to love propolis. I'm excited about Beauty Of Joseon Cream but I haven't tried it yet. Get 20% off your first Memebox order!
  • Green grass is such a welcome sight!
  • This corner on Crosby Street is so visually interesting. NYC tip: Walk on Crosby to avoid the crowds on Broadway.

I think it is a great idea to share different content on instagram and I should do that more often! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I don't think that I have ever tried yam leaves but they look very appetizing! April over here was very similar. Up until the end of April it was occasionally snowing. I hope that we are now heading for spring and summer for good!

I don't go to Instagram much anymore :( but I hear yah about seeing the same posts all across social media. Even when I was posting pics there, it's not always stuff I put on the blog just to make it fresh. And I still miss DoTS:D
PS I would love to read a review of the Joseon cream:) So sad memebox is not available in Canada....bah!

That noodle soup looks delicious! Your food pics are always the best.

I agree with you, Rowena. It's really annoying when someone I follow along his blog, posts the same photos (I mean literally every single photo) on IG. I don't really get the point. It was a pretty warm April here, but unfortunately May began with lots of rain and low temperatures. Hope the weather gets warmer soon. Have a nice Monday, Rowena!xo

I love yam leaves although the husband unfortunately doesn't like the sticky aftertaste. I didn't buy anything from Sephora this time, but my year end order is bound to be huge then. Ahh, so many beauty goodies to try right?

Lovely insta highlights! When we select only a handful of photos, it makes us think about them more....that's how I feel anyway. Blogging can be a great way to develop our editing skils because it makes us think about what to include and what not. It is all about making those cuts, learning to summarize and so on. However, there is such a thing as overthinking things and I know that I'm often guilty of that but that is something all bloggers sometimes struggle with. I do agree with you about not sharing exactly the same content everywhere. Seeing some variety is always good! In addition, we all use social platforms differently. I'm most active on my blog and most easily reached by mail. I only log in instagram once or twice a day for about an hour or half an hour. I don't keep insta on all the time, but for some people it is their primary platform. It all depends on us, we all need to figure out what works best for us.

I have different purposes for all my platforms.. blog is more personal while my instagram is more professional. Twitter is messy.. it wasn't always like that but due to lack of time and so many platforms it has become a dumping ground of sorts and I have almost forgotten all about Facebook.
lovely images.. never knew about the yam leaves.. interesting.

I love yam leaves and the usual way to cook it is with sambal. Well, my dad cooks it really well, I have yet to try making it for myself. And I agree with you on posting only unique contents, Rowena, there's no point in seeing the same pictures over and over again.

That noodle soup looks so delicious! I wish I had a bowl! I also love tulips. Those are so pretty. I definitely understand what you're saying about Instagram Rowena. I just post once a day and it's usually something from my blog (need to change it up), but there is one girl that posts every angle of her outfit (so like 10 pictures a day on instagram) AND THEN posts the same thing on her blog (and wants a comment on each). LOL I couldn't take it anymore. HaHaHa

Nice edit of the photos. I'm still craving for some good noodle soup :) The yam leaves sound delicious, is that the same as sweet potato leaves? My grandma use to cook the sweet potato leaves from her garden, but I haven't been able to find any since. They're really good.

Beautiful photos as always! I love noodle soup too, also the blossoms are beautiful. I took some photos of a blossom tree today :)

I totally agree with the different content thing. It makes things more interesting if I'm following the same person on different things IMO. Which I why I've really only been keeping up with 2 social medias of my own :X

I personally like a range in photos on both IG and on the blog, but I only use Twitter and IG because I don't have time for much else! This is sort of why I was a bit over loads of outfit posts, I will do more in the near future -- but needed a change. I remembered the yam leaves on your feed ... lovely collage of images here, especially the tulips! Wish you a lovely week, Rowena.

I agree with you, Rowena - if I follow someone on different channels, it's because I hope to see different types of content. I love the fact that thanks to your blog and your Instagram I always discover new things, and get a glimpse of life in NYC.
Happy Tuesday, my friend!

I'm so glad you liked the honeybunny. That stuff makes me so irrationally happy. :) I love all your pictures of spring! Here it feels like we went from winter to summer.

I have not heard of propolis, will have to check your review out if you do one! I love tulips, my favourite flowers actually. Ahhh weather in NYC is as erratic as here in KL? We had some really hot days few weeks back, and lately it has been really hot and humid in the mornings and rain like cats and dogs in the afternoon... oh gosh..

I love the fact that you always share your home cook meals on IG, they always look so yummilicous! and heathy too *_^

Yeah, I guess we all love to see variety when it comes to updates and all on social media and I do agree with Ivana here. We all need to figure out what works best for us and we each use different social platforms different. With the advent of apps and technology, it's quite a challenge to juggle all platforms equally well. That's why I don't even start snapchat, I feel it's not for me, and so not me, even though I hear that it is so much fun *_^

I personally love IG now more than FB, but still put emphasis at the end of the day, on the blog. IG is addictive for me as so much to see, visually.

We do what's best and most comfortable for us then, I guess.

Have a lovely week, Rowena. Mine will be a relatively busy one. Take care!

Love,
