Gift Preparation For The Year Ahead

As the new year starts so does the resetting of the calendar, meaning that the birthdays of loved ones, special days of the year like anniversaries and any other dates of note are set to come around again. So with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the gifts that you might want to keep in mind for the coming year so that you’re prepared for all gift purchases well in advance.

Small
Not every present that you buy someone needs to cost you a small fortune and be a prize idea. Sometimes you just need to get a gift that acknowledges a friendship without breaking the bank. For that purpose, there is the smaller gift, something that says you’re thinking of them but meets both your expectations. To this end, quite often one of the nicer things you can get someone which has been personalized with their name or something that reflects their likes and interests. Here we are talking about mugs, photo frames or even personalized air fresheners. Remember that the purpose of the small gift, be it for birthdays or anything else, is that it's the thought that counts.

Medium
Moving slightly up, we should think of the medium gift as something we are buying someone relatively close to us like a very good friend, maybe an extended family member or even a close relation on a smaller event date. The halfway house of presents should be something that costs you a little bit more and has taken some thought and shopping around to get just right. You can stick to the personalized theme as discussed above but look more towards a photo album or something from not all that pedestrian. Alternatively, with a medium sized gift you should consider a practical present that the receiver will be able to use and want; a kitchen appliance like a sandwich maker, technology like a Tile Mate, or a gift card for an experience. Your medium present should be thoughtful and could backed up with some cash, but not too much. Bear in mind that receiving an expensive present from someone you don’t expect to can be an awkward moment that takes the shine off of the gift.

Big
Finally, the gift for immediate family or your partner. This is the present that you’re going to spend the most amount of time, money and effort on. Throughout the year we are all guilty of saying that we don’t want anything, but there would be pretty heavy disappointment if our nearest and dearest listed to that. Your traditional big presents come with a price tag, but the joy you see on the receiver’s face when they unwrap it will make it worthwhile. Once again technology plays its role but bigger than before; iPads, smartphones and music equipment are all examples of big-ticket items that we might consider getting our closest friends and family. Don’t be shy about getting spending a little bit extra on the one you love most, they’re going to be there for you when you need them so showing you appreciate them isn’t hurting anyone.

Wonderful gift advice. When I reflect on the gifts I was given in my life, the ones I appreciate the most are the ones that showed me that the person who bought the gift gave some thought. For example, I'm a bookworm so for me the best gift is always a book, especially by the author I like.
