Grim but true. These days a lot of people are actually practicing emotional avoidance and calling it a positive mindset. Times are tough and watching our society unravel can be disconcerting. Facing hard truths head on can bring clarity and it can also bring a rush of emotions like rage and grief to any decent person with empathy and critical thinking skills. As a realist, I have ways of coping and chief among them is preparing for worst outcomes and preparing to leave. This is how I stay calm and maintain a sense of peace. Even though it's exhausting, it's better to know and prep. The news cycle is demoralizing with the Cornell case just being the latest. This country and this society is descending into fascism, is blatantly racist and hates women. And the food isn't safe. I'm not going to apologize for hating that or calling it out.
Nothing says “society is functioning perfectly” quite like everyone collectively pretending the obvious problems aren’t happening.

Dealing with harsh realities these days. I’m not avoiding them however unpleasant. You are a bright light.
That is how I perceive the circumstances and the changes, too. There is much cause for concern. I am amazed at how quickly it all happened. I never thought we would reach this point.
I really enjoy reading your blog.
No avoidance here.. it is dinner table conversation so the kids know exactly what is happening as well.
