Through My Lens : Holiday Season in NYC

The holiday season in New York City is one of the most magical times of the year and one of my favorite holiday activities is to venture to midtown to take in the sights from the tree in Rockefeller Center to the various holiday windows on Fifth Avenue. I brought my camera along to share some of what I saw.

Giant Christmas ornaments outside 1251 Avenue of the Americas
Rockefeller Center
The show on the front of Saks Fifth Avenue
I wasn't that impressed with Saks' holiday windows. This one with a multitude of rotating snow globes was the only one I liked.
Their holiday party windows were more interesting to me. Check those Jimmy Choos!
A sparkly red bow on Cartier
Fendi
Harry Winston
A crystal serpent on the side of Bulgari and the 57th Street holiday snowflake
The holiday windows at Bergdorf Goodman are always a favorite and some of the best. The Ziegfield Follies inspired theme brings forth the "Bergdorf Follies" in a series of dazzling and dramatic theatrical windows.
Barney's New York partnered up with Disney for their holiday windows themed "Electric Holiday" this year. A short video presentation plays on a loop. It tells the story of Minnie Mouse looking at a fabulous dress in a shop window and imagining herself transported to Paris, mingling with the fashion crowd and walking the runway with her friends. It flashes out to Mickey presenting Minnie with the the dress of her dreams. Not sure how I felt about this presentation but the Minnie and Mickey part at the end was cute.

Speaking of Christmas, here is an infographic that illustrates how much money is spent to celebrate the holiday. Pretty fascinating.

You are right - Bergdorf had the best windows hands down. You took such great shots and make me miss home. I love your shot by Saks - can I use it with proper credits to you of course next week?

So pretty Rowena. I've never been to New York during the holidays.. in fact the only time I've been there was for lay-overs. I was there in July (coming back from Paris) and we had a three hour lay over and when in to the city. I was bummed because it was so hot, crowded, etc.. and I knew I wasn't seeing what I needed to. I must return and spend more time because I know it's a beautiful city filled with wonderful people.

Rowena, you took some spectacular pictures doll! I've always wanted to visit NYC this time of year. I LOVE Rockefeller Center! Everything is so oversized (you know I love that!) I can't get over the huge ornaments and twinkly lights! SO PRETTY! I really like how the stores there decorate for the holidays. I wish they would do that here. HAHAHA Love the Bergdorf windows! You did a fabulous job capturing the essence of Christmas in NY. I thank you! I thank you! I thank you! Have a great weekend doll!

I wanna book a ticket and zip down to NYC just for all the window displays. They are simply lovely. Oh, Minnie Mouse looking all gorwn up and sexy doesn't quite gel well with me. She looks kinda odd and sexed up.

I only had to bundle up once during Xmas and that was years ago in NYC. I really love the feeling of "real" christmas in the cold wintry weather. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. Lol

It is nice of you to give to the Red Cross for the hurricane relief efforts. You went to the doctor and had physical therapy? Oh dear, I hope you are ok. If you don’t mind me asking, what happened to you?

Thank you for following me on Pinterest!

We survived 21/12/12! Yeah!

Now this is what I'm talking about, NYC doing some awesome X Mas window/lighting displays! Love Fendi's and well, all of them - I thought the big fairy lights were sticks of lipstick at first, lol! I bet you had such a lovely time just browsing and going for long walks around town.
The infographic is just great, I'm hoping to get some lovely coffee table books that i've had on my list for a while, wonder what I'll end up with.
Have a lovely Christmas sweetie pea.

I would love to spend Christmas in New York one day. I enjoy the Aussie summer but have always secretly hoped it would be cold just for that one day of christmas. It doesn't feel 'christmassy' otherwise! :P

You make the tree and Rockefeller Center look so beautiful. When I saw it I was disappointed, but then again, the crowds were making me cranky so I could have won a million dollars and would still have been feeling the rage. ;) I had no idea the Harry Winston building changed colors, it was so pretty! I also missed the Mickey and Minnie video, I kept seeing the credits and thought that was all it was.
