Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil & Wipes

Dermalogica PreCleanse Review

Whenever anyone asks for my top skincare tips, my answer is to always wear sunscreen, avoid sugar (it does really terrible things to your skin like break down collagen) and to always wash your face at the of the day. I adopted double-cleansing last year which has worked really well for my skin so I'm always on the lookout for new products to try in my routine. Enter Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil and PreCleanse Wipes.

These two products are integral to the the Dermalogica regimen which is based upon the foundation of the double-cleanse, beginning with PreCleanse which helps to dissolve excess sebum, sunscreen, waterproof makeup, environmental pollutants and residual products that build up on the skin throughout the day. Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil is a lightweight classic cleansing oil. Dermalogica PreCleanse Wipes are travel friendly biodegradable wipes. Both products are water soluble so they rinse off cleanly without leaving behind any residue.

About the Brand: Dermalogica is a US based professional skincare company that has been around since 1986. Their product line is focused on improving skin health without the use of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts.

Key Ingredients: Formulated with skin softening Aloe, Olive, Kukui and Apricot Oils, conditioning Rice Bran and Vitamin E in a blend that is gentle enough to be used around the eye area. Does not contain any artificial ingredients, colors or parabens.

Packaging: If you're familiar with Dermalogica products then you'll know that they have a minimal clinical type look and that applies to these products as well. The oil is housed in a sturdy plastic bottle that dispenses the product easily without dripping. The wipes come in a pretty standard cleansing wipe pouch package.

Price: Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil retails for $38 for a 5.1 oz. bottle and a pack of 20 Dermalogica PreCleanse Wipes costs $18.

Dermalogica PreCleanse Review
Dermalogica PreCleanse

My Impressions: So these two products are designed to be used interchangeably with the wipes being ideal for travel or on the go use. I switched up my usual cleansing oil and cleansing balm to try them out. Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil Daily has a light almost watery texture when dispensed. To use, I massaged it around my face to dissolve makeup and dirt for a few minutes before adding a little water to emulsify the product and working it through before rinsing with water. The runny texture was a little hard to control at first but it was fine once I got used to it. It worked pretty well to remove my makeup and didn't irritate my skin in any way. I was a little worried that it might be drying since it's supposed to work well with oily skin which I don't have but I didn't experience any tightness. The PreCleanse Wipes are infused with PreCleanse and work like any other cleansing wipes only you add a touch of water to activate the emulsification process midway and wipe your face again prior to rinsing. I was impressed with how gentle and effective these wipes were. They even removed my waterproof mascara, even better than the oil in my opinion. I should mention that since these are pre-cleanse products, I followed up with a regular cleanser. These products also have a light scent which I'd describe as fruity lavender and it's mild enough that I didn't find it off putting. The oil worked fine but I'm not sure I liked it enough that I would switch it out with my current cleansing oil. I will definitely be buying a pack of the PreCleanse Wipes for the next time I travel as it's much easier than toting a bottle of oil that I have to double wrap in plastic wrap to make sure it doesn't get all over my other stuff. Score one for portability!

Dermalogica PreCleanse Oil and Wipes are available through Dermalogica.

How I love Dermalogica. The products are consistently high quality and we can buy them here in Italy! I actually have never seen the wipes before but I'll try to hunt them down before our next airplane travel (I hate long travel in makeup!). I do double cleanse - but I use a mixture of facial oils and avene.

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dermalogica! It's a brand I need to try Rowena. So good to hear that you loved the cleansing wipes. That is definitely a must while on the go, and for me when testing makeup products I like to keep them handy. Excellent review.

Ive heard of this brand Rowena and Im so curious to try their stuff as seems very good (plus, I relly like the minimal packaging, in my eyes seems also more professional). Btw, both products looks great, I stopped to use wipes as they irritated my skin but these seem very gentle and on travel would be ideal too. I use to always wash my hair both in the morning and in the night too, maybe I need to avoid too much sugar :P Happy weekend dear, hugs! xo

Dermalogica is always a hit or miss for me, but I might like the oil. I'm not a fan of wipes.

I actually do double-cleaning when I wear makeup- usually with a cleansing oil followed by a face wash. The wipes do sound perfect for travel:)

This sounds brilliant, I especially love the wipes. Need to check where I can get the wipes, not sure if there are any stores carry this brand where I live.

I have to add - never go to bed with makeup, never! I have never heard of Dermalogica, but I like the name and I would buy their products only because of it. It's hard to believe that wipes can be that good, but obviously it is possible. And to be honest, I would also buy them when traveling instead of bringing tubes, oils. etc. Wishing you a nice weekend ahead, Rowena! xo

I've only just got into cleansing and moisturising and so pre-cleansing may be a step too far for me right now, but I'll bear it in mind for the future most definitely! I love your H&M marble effect display dish by the way, and this Dermalogica product looks fantastic against your smooth skin - great photo! :)

I enjoyed a deluxe sample of PreCleanse a long time ago, but never made a purchase on a full size since I've found more affordable alternatives. I don't see cleansing oil wipes that often, though. I'd be definitely interested in trying them. :)

I have heard a lot of good things about this brand. I would not use wipes at home, too much waste. But i would consider them when traveling. Right now I am using Murad's cleansing cream.

I like their face wash but have never tried the pre cleanse products. The wipes sound great, especially something that takes off waterproof mascara. I'll be adding this to my list. It'll be great for travel!

Hi Rowena, yes I do double cleanse. I have wipes from Balea (German brand) and then I use a wash gel. Sometimes I also use micellar water for my eyes from Garnier. I have heard of the brand but they don't sell it over here. Actually I really like the minimal packaging. The ingredients are important and not the packaging if you ask me. I totally agree with what you said about the sugar. I still don't eat it. It's the longest time for me without it haha. I don't even miss it that much. Only when I'm feeling bad :D Wish you a happy Saturday!

These pre-clense wipes sound great! the fact they removed waterproof mascara got me interesting...a handy product to have...and this two step face cleaning process sounds good.

I have heard about the dangerous of sugar, but I don't think I'll even stop consuming it altogether. I do, however, have my coffee and tea without it, and avoid sweet drinks....but when it comes to cakes, I always make them with sugar. I think the problem is that people are often not aware of how much sugar they actually take in because all processed food contains it.

Happy Saturday Rowena! I attended a training for this line years ago and was really impressed with how comprehensive their line was .. and is:) I ALWAYS recommend a "double" cleanse at night .. or to 1. remove make up and 2. use a an appropriate cleanser on your skin (which will change depending on what you need at the time). This sounds wonderful and I love the way the oil emulsifies with the water. xxL
