Central Park Conservatory Garden

Vanderbilt Gate Central Park Conservatory Garden

Come take a tour of the Central Park Conservatory Garden with me today! This magnificent formal garden is just 6 acres of the 843 sprawling acres that comprise New York's Central Park and it is one of the park's attractions that still manages to remain relatively hidden in part due to it's location. The Conservatory Garden lies behind Vanderbilt Gate and 105th street on Fifth Avenue. It is actually made up of 3 smaller gardens, each designed in it's own distinctive style. The northern French garden is the home of the dancing nymphs in Untermyer Fountain flanked by concentric circles of flowerbeds. The central Italian style garden features a charming pergola and terrace with views of the entire garden. The southern classic English garden is probably the least formal in style and my favorite. A bronze sculpture based upon the characters of Mary and Dickon from The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett that oversee a dainty yet enchanting water lily reflecting pool is the centerpiece of one of the most idyllic spots to sit and take in the splendor of this urban oasis. This officially designated quiet zone is also home to thousands of trees, plants, shrubs, bulbs, perennials and annuals which blossom through the seasons. It's serene beauty makes it a perfect escape and not surprisingly the site for a number weddings. We even witnessed 1 on the day of our visit. Stepping into this enchanting space was kind of like going into a real life fairy tale. I almost wanted to keep this little gem to myself but it is really too good not to share. I hope to return in the fall to see the changing colors of the foliage. The Conservatory Garden is open from 8am to 8pm daily.

Cool fact: Central Park itself is reported to attract approximately 37.5 million visitors a year.

Sounds like a great part of Central Park! I've only been to the lower/people-packed end of the park and it's a little too bustling for me :X Looks like I should give this garden a chance

How magical! I never got to explore CP when I was in NYC, and it's something I wish I'd made time for. I was unaware of these gardens, and I'm actually blown away. I know this park is expansive but wow, quiet little garden nooks, I would never have guessed

Oh my, the garden is gorgeous! I've been dying to visit NYC and my list of things to do just never stops growing; I shall definitely visit Central Park Conservatory Garden one day when I do visit! I love the statues inspired by The Secret Garden; it's one of my favourite classics and to see it being memorialised in such a lovely place is just amazing!

Have a lovely week, Rolala, and thank you so much for sharing! <3

I want to be there and take lots of photos of all the enchanting nature around, such a dreamy and mesmerizing place! Thanks for the tour Rowena, it really looks like the Secret Garden of the book (one of my fav from the childhood) and that sculpture is amazing. But above all love the last pic, you and your hubby are utterly tender and sweet <3

These images are breath-taking! You really captured the essence of this enchanted garden (calling it enchanted seems appropriate). That last image of you and your husband is totally adorable.

I can totally understand what you mean when you say you wanted to keep this place to yourself. Having a quiet place for oneself is precious...so I appreciate even more the fact you've shared this magical place with us.

Who would have suspected that there is a part of Central Park that is not that well known? I always joked how I will experience deja vu if I ever visited Central Park because it has been featured numerous times in various films, TV shows and series, sitcoms and documentaries. However, you proved me wrong...well, you never know, I might happen to visit NY some day...and I will keep this jewel in my mind if I do:)

I have heard so much and seen lots of Central Garden and it's definitely on my list to visit when we finally get the chance to visit US. And I honestly hope you'll do more photography posts, Rowena, you have such good eye for it and it's such a pleasure to see places and objects through your eyes.

ps: Love the last picture, I know you tend to keep your private life private so it's so lovely to get a see a picture of both of you.

Ugh, it's beautiful *-* (especially the second photo!)
I've been to nearly every garden in Toronto, so obviously visiting gardens while on vacation is a must for me! I've actually yet to read "The Secret Garden" despite it being on my shelf for the past few years, so I obviously need to educate myself and get on that.

DEFINITELY VISITING THIS GARDEN WHEN I VISIT NYC/CENTRAL PARK

JeannLiew | Luminnej said...

Wow Rowena! You got a kiss at the end of your visit, how sweet and romantic *_^

I guess a trip to NYC would not be complete if one doesn't at least drop by to Central Park, right? It's nice that you chose to share with us the conservatory garden. This reminds me so much of our local bird park that my family visited some years back! Such serenity and fun when one makes such an outing!

I would love to see how this place looks during autumn then *_^

Big hugs,
