Foreo Luna Review

Luna by Foreo, Foreo Luna vs. Clarisonic

As a long time Clarisonic user, I wasn't really sure what to expect from the Foreo Luna other than by the looks it, I imagined the experience would be quite different. The Luna is billed as a revolutionary facial cleansing and anti-aging device that uses T-Sonic (transdermal sonic) silicone touch-points to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and remove impurities for a glowing and radiant complexion.

The Facts: The Luna by Foreo is a cute looking personal skincare device, It is about 3" wide by 4" high and can fit into the palm of your hand. It is made of non-porous and bacteria resistant silicone and is fully waterproof. The Luna is available in 3 different models that suit sensitive/normal, combination or ultra-sensitive skin. The pink one which I have here is designed for sensitive/normal skin. It has 4 intensity settings which you can adjust to your preference or for the area you're treating. The Luna can be used about 450 times per charge and requires no replacement brushes.

Luna by Foreo, Foreo Luna vs. Clarisonic

I incorporated the Luna into the second step of my double cleansing process following the oil cleansing that removes all my makeup. You use the cleansing brush surface during the cleansing mode on your damp face with your favorite cleanser. Up to 8,000 pulsations per minute are channeled through the silicone touch points during the process. You cleanse each area of the face for 15 seconds as directed by the pauses of the device's pulsations. After the cleansing mode is done, you rinse your face and flip it around to the concentric waves surface for the anti-aging mode.

Luna by Foreo, Foreo Luna vs. Clarisonic

During the anti-aging mode, you apply the device to the wrinkle prone areas of the face where muscle tension can cause worry lines, crow’s feet and laugh lines. This features low frequency pulsations which are actually pretty relaxing.  A full cycle with the Luna takes 2 minutes total.

Luna by Foreo, Foreo Luna vs. Clarisonic

The Good: The Luna is definitely gentler than the Clarisonic even with the sensitive cleansing brush. At most I can use my Clarisonic every other day or else it totally dries my sensitive skin out. I was able to use the Luna daily without any dryness issues and both creamy and foaming cleansers worked just as well with it. There was also no purge period like when I first started using the Clarisonic.  And I enjoy the almost spa-like feel of the anti-aging mode. I'm not sure about lines but I do think it has improved my skin's circulation and firmness as well as the efficacy of my facial products since my husband has remarked that my skin has been looking glowy in the morning a week into using it. You can also employ the anti-aging mode as a massager of sorts on your face. I've heard of people using it to relieve headaches. I haven't tried it for that but I have used it to ease the tension I sometimes get in my jaw and it really helps. This was an unexpected benefit but a very good one. The long lasting charge is great considering how many times my Clarisonic has conked out on me within even a day of charging it. It's also a cinch to clean, doesn't take up much space and stands up on it's own.

The Not So Good: While it does a good job of cleaning my skin, it doesn't provide a deep level of exfoliation so I will still be using my Clarisonic a few times a week for that. Also you must remove your makeup before using it so if you're someone who likes to get it all done in one step, this wouldn't be the right device for you. The Foreo Luna costs $199 which is expensive. But since it doesn't require any brush heads, this makes it an upfront investment with no additional costs going forward. I change my Clarisonic brush heads every 3 - 4 months and they cost $27 each.

The Foreo Luna will have it's place in my beauty routine now and it gets style points for looking cool and holding a charge. The anti-aging mode sets it apart from other facial cleaning devices and the added benefit of being able to use it to soothe facial/head pain makes it a real keeper. I never take my Clarisonic when I travel because it's a pain but I think this will be so easy to pack since it's so compact. A pouch is also included if you want to take it on the go.

You can find the Luna  by Foreo at through Foreo and major retailers like Sephora, Ulta, Skinstore and Dermstore. There is also an adorable looking Mini version that sells for $139.

Have you tried the Foreo Luna before? Do you use any type of device to clean your face?

It sounds like an excellent product despite its less powerful exfoliation feature, but being able to see a difference in a week's time is something noteworthy, for sure! I'd likely try it out once I get the budget to buy it, haha! Thanks for sharing, Rowena, this was a great review!

I have been reading great reviews on this little device and glad to know that you enjoy it too. I agree that the price is pretty steep but I think it's worth it in the long run. Definitely something that I will consider buying for myself. Great review, Rowena!

I never tried a product like this one, but I can imagine such massage can be really relaxing....and anti aging benefit is surely a plus...so great that difference is visible only after one week.

Great review, I would be totally open to trying something like this product.

This sounds really great Rowena - I use my Clarisonic sporadically and could probably make room for this in my routine too!

This is actually the first time I see this type of "device". I haven't heard or tried Foreo Luna, but I'd love to! Sounds relaxing and skin regenerating. The shape is very cute. I will sure look for it in Sephora, although it's not that pocket friendly. Have a nice day, Rowena! xo

Interesting! I didn't even know something like this existed! I like that you don't need to buy extra brushes or anything, but I assume you have to give it a deep clean every few months? I was just at Sephora and saw all the cute colors the Clarisonic comes in! But I love this cute pink :)

Bravo! Bravo Rowena! You're the first person that has explained it's function so clearly that I understand the device now. I want one! I love my clarisonic and this would be a fabulous addition to my beauty routine.

Every time I pass this little cutie in Sephora, I'm always intrigued and wished I knew a bit more about it. Your review was very informative, and I love that you did a comparison to the Clarsonic. I've been holding out on purchasing either one for the expense, but I think in the future if I decide to pick one up, it'll be the Foreo. I could use something less abrasive, and I have other things to use for exfoliation, and nothing really that does what the Foreo does. Wonderful review Rowena!

I have this too Rowena. I was sold on not having to buy "replacement brushes" and so far, I enjoy it a lot! I alternate the Luna and Clarisonic. :)

This is a very helpful comparison review, Rowena! Thank you. :)
I'd love to own Foreo Luna just for its look! LOL. The anti-aging function sounds very interesting, too!
Clarisonic is coming out with a compact version soon (called Mia Fit - I just know this because I know someone who is working in this campaign), but the brush head thing is annoying. To think about it though, it is a vital business component for Clarisonic, this ongoing demand of new brush heads. I wonder how it would work out for Foreo Luna.

I am very interested in this product and appreciate your review! How does it work as far as the wrinkle department goes? Have you noticed that your wrinkles, if any, look less prominent? I would love to know!

Vanessa N said...

I always joke that the Foreo resembles a vibrator, heh. Anyways, as a long time Clarisonic user too, I really appreciate how this post outlines the differences between the two, since I've been thinking about trying the Foreo. I actually used to use the Clarisonic daily until I realised it ravaged my skin, so I switched to using it once a week/every other week just because I find that it does a better job of exfoliating my skin than other physical exfoliants.

BUT ANYWAYS, doubt I'd be picking up the Foreo anytime soon, mostly because of the $$$. But good lord, the pros sound incredibly tempting.

Diva In Me said...

I've not tried Foreo but heard a lot of good feedback about it. Especially being easy to clean comparing to Clarisonic. I've a Clarisonic myself and yea, it's quite a mess to clean it. I should head to Sephora and see how it is in action =)

i've seen some YouTubers try this out and they seem to like it. Only thing is.... nothing is bacteria resistant. If it has something to grow on, it will!!

haha I just saw this at Sephora earlier today and thought to myself, I must checked out your review here to see how you liked it, Rowena. I guess like what you said, there are plus points and some down side to this, but I guess since you have your clarisonic already, which does the major cleansing, this is most definitely a good addition since it is so portable with its compact size *_^

I guess you get the best of both worlds then huh?

Since I don't have either one, I am still lusting over the clarisonic and it will be on my wish list then *_^

Have a great weekend ahead, my friend.

Big hugs,
Jeann
