A Spa Facial With Real Results

Spa Week, Spa Facial

It's been awhile since I've had a spa facial but this was something I used treat my skin to on a monthly basis before I got ill a few years ago. Having vertigo and and tinnitus made me highly sensitive and I developed pretty bad claustrophobia as well. Life wasn't fun when laying down made me dizzy and the thought of having my eyes and face fully covered made me shudder back then. Since recovering, I've slowly eased backed into getting facial treatments again but I definitely don't go at the same frequency that I once did or else this would have been on my list of 10 health skin habits. Still I do want to mention that getting a spa facial even sporadically has some fantastic benefits since professional grade treatments can give you a safe deep cleaning of your pores, provide a relaxing experience and feature technology that you wouldn't be able to access in home that give viable and lasting results.

Last week I tried SKNSpa's popular Brightening SKN Oxydermy Treatment with LED Light Therapy Facial which combines the benefits of oxygen and microdermabrasion. This facial which utilizes cutting-edge technology is highly effective for decreasing wrinkles, blemishes and fine lines while providing hydration and nourishment to the skin. After your skin is cleaned and prepped, the Oxydermy treatment is applied around the entire face through a wand-like device. It feels like concentrated cool blasts. These contain sodium water with oxygen which deep cleans the pores while removing dead skin and killing bacteria. The LED light treatment works to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, treat sun damage, stretch marks and reduce redness. It can also be targeted to your specific skin concerns. I received the Red LED light with anti-aging and skin regenerating benefits. There is also a Blue LED light for troubled skin that works to banish deeply embedded acne causing bacteria. And a Mixed LED light can be provided for those with both blemishes and aging concerns. This was finished off with a collagen boosting facial mask and massage. It was a relaxing and refreshing experience and more importantly it yielded visible results with just one treatment. My skin was plumped and glowing afterwards giving me the confidence to ride the subway home without any makeup. And my husband immediately noticed that my freckles were lighter as soon as he saw me that night. He was disappointed but he might be the only one who likes my freckles.

Spa Week, Spa Facial

As I mentioned, I had this treatment at SKNSpa which is a full service skincare facility in Hell's Kitchen. Only the name of this neighborhood sounds scary I promise. I felt an aura of tranquility as soon as I entered the place and was welcomed by Darren the owner. Everything was clean and well appointed from the reception area to the treatment rooms. There's a nice lounge area with light refreshments in the back along with a cute outdoor garden area that guests can relax in pre/post treatment. My aesthetician Fairy was wonderful. Before beginning, we talked about my skin concerns. She explained everything to me before she did it and always made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. She mentioned her years of experience in the beauty industry and it showed through her work. Fairy promised that my skin would glow and that I would sleep well that night after she worked out a kink in my neck and that's exactly what happened. My skin looked even better the next day. I was quite impressed and somewhat convinced to get back into spa facials again.

The Brightening SKN Oxydermy Treatment with LED Light Therapy which is suitable for all skin types is a signature facial offered exclusively at SKNSpa. It normally costs $195 but you can try it for just $50 during Spa Week which runs from October 12 - 18. SKNSpa is also offering their Radiant SKN Organic Facial and Chamomile Organic Swedish Massage with Vitamins for $50 for Spa Week. To schedule an appointment or learn more, visit their website.

And if you're not in NYC, keep in mind that Spa Week is a national event with hundreds of health and wellness facilities participating across the country. Take advantage of signature spa treatments at a special rate of $50. See the full list of participating spas and book an appointment on SpaWeek.com. This is the perfect time to treat yourself to the gift of wellness.

Me post-treatment with no makeup. I wasn't brave enough to remove the shades. No filters have been used on this photo though I did position myself strategically under dappled sunlight for a soft effect. Excuse the funky shadows. I always wear a hat after a facial cause they pull your hair back and sometimes it gets real wonky.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary facial treatment in exchange for editorial consideration. No other compensation was provided and all words and opinions expressed are my own.

The treatment sounds fantastic, Rowena. I've never gone to a spa before, let alone a facial spa, but I'm quite sure it's something I'd like.

I've never tried spa (or a facial) but you make me want to try it a fist time. Your face looks really fresh. I've never been in a beauty salon and I'm not sure why....it never crossed my mind. I did, however, had a face massage once by a mother of my friend who does it professionally (she offered to do it because my face was showing redness at the time) and I can say that the result were really visible. It was some kind of soothing massage and my face did look better after it.

I have been only once to a facial and it wasn't pleasant at all. My face was red and I needed 2 days to fully recover. So it's really nice that you went home after the procedure without having to wear make-up! Your face's skin looks amazing, but I guess this is also a result of your healthy living! The story with your husband loving your freckles is funny. Have a nice day, Rowena!

Rowena, you really do have amazing skin....so jealous!:D I think I've only done a spa facial once, and I think I broke out horribly after which is probably why I haven't done it since. I must really change that. Thanks for sharing your skincare tips with us all the time:)

PS I love freckles:) And how awesome is that that your aesthetician is named Fairy:D

wow! your experience there sounds lovely and the place looks like it too! Though it is not just the usual facial spa with just products and massages, as this uses machines and cutting-edge technology, as long as it yielded great results and you had a wonderful time there, that's what matters most, I feel.

When one goes for any sort of spa, I feel the rejuvenated post treatment feeling is most crucial *_^

Haha I am with you hubby though, I do love gals with freckles, I find them really unique and appealing in a very strange way... maybe I am like Emmylou *_^ and your hubby!

Have a beautiful week, Rowena.

Cheers,
Jeann

This location is quite close to where I live, so I might just take advantage of the deal. $50 for a high-end facial is a real deal! <3

I just had my first facial this past weekend. My regular girl I go to did it which made me more comfortable. It was wonderful, as mine included massage of my shoulders and arms as well. I will probably be going when the seasons change to have another. It was very relaxing for sure, I almost fell asleep! This spa looks very nice and a cool idea for when I stay in the city for a weekend. Great review!

You look beautiful. Sounds like a nice treatment, and the place looks very serene and relaxing.
I haven't been to a spa in years. My favorite one closed, so I tried a new one and it was just horrible. I haven't been to any ever since.
BTW, that was so sweet of your husband to miss your freckles :)

Your skin looks great! My freckles have been fading recently with the stuff I'm putting on but I don't think the real ones will disappear. I don't see any on you but I think a few always looks nice. I'm working on designing a spa right now {almost the same name and from NYC} but I've never actually been to one for any services. I'm glad you had a great time!

I haven't had facial treatments done, ever. My skin is temperamental and I've always been too afraid of having a bad experience or reaction. I've always felt I've been missing out too. Now, I've never seen your freckles but I can say that I'm with your husband in that I'll miss them, never even getting to know them and all! I love freckles!
