"The right toner gives the skin a healthy glow and fresh feeling after cleansing and throughout the day.
It provides the foundation for a deeper penetration of your serum or moisturizer. "
Munemi

Ever since I got into Asian skincare, toners have been an indispensable step in my beauty regimen. Prior to that, I hadn't used toner in a number of years because my previous experience with them involved wiping a toner soaked cotton ball all around my face and bracing as it would sting and remove every last trace of dirt and oil off my skin. Of course that was when my skin was on the oily and I didn't know better. I've since learned that toners can serve a purpose and it's not to strip your skin but rather to treat, balance and hydrate. These days I have a small collection of toners that I rotate accordingly to address the needs of my skin. In the morning I prefer a hydrating toner to prep my skin for makeup. In the evenings, depending on how my skin is acting and what it needs, I like to switch between a calming toner or one that has exfoliating properties while delivering moisture to ready my skin for my evening skincare routine. MŪN Skin Care Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner is a multi-tasking product that ticks off all of these check boxes which is why it's been a favorite of mine this summer.

MŪN Skin Care Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner

(3.38oz / 100ml // $65)

Anarose means “hope" in Berber. This calming and rejuvenating toner is formulated with a unique formulation of organic ingredients which immediately work to exfoliate, tone, soothe, nourish and balance any skin type including those with issues ranging from acne to rosacea. MŪN Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner is made with a naturally derived Bulgarian Rose Water base that instantly soothes even the most sensitive skin. Prickly Pear Stem Extract rejuvenates the skin with essential amino acids, flavones, vitamins and antioxidants in combination with the anti-aging properties of Goji Berry Extract that reduces UV and free radical damage. Also known as nature’s exfoliant, Willow Bark Extract removes dead cells and preps the skin while enhancing the performance of other treatments. A combination of Rose, Jasmine and Daisy floral extracts brightens and refreshes the skin with velvety softness and a radiant appearance. Hyaluronic acid firms the skin and provides long-lasting hydration.

MŪN (pronounced "moon") Skin Care was founded by international makeup artist Munemi Imai. The brand takes a minimalist approach to it's result's driven skincare line that uses natural and healing botanical ingredients that are sustainably sourced and produced with integrity. Their range of products are balanced formulas that are 100% natural, organic, vegan and cruelty-free. MŪN Skin Care Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner is packaged in a sleek and luxurious black glass bottle with a plastic spray pump dispenser. Now one would think that this means that the toner should be misted over the face and while it can be used in this manner, the best way to use this toner is to spray it onto a cotton pad and gently sweep it over the entire face to activate the exfoliating action. I like to use it with my favorite Muji Facial Soft Cut Unbleached Cotton Squares, made of organic cotton. I prefer these to cotton balls not only because they feel unbelievably soft and luxurious, they actually hold and properly dispense the product you put onto them instead of absorbing it all like most cheap drugstore cotton balls and pads.  So my skin was feeling a little irritated the first time I tried this toner and it instantly calmed and soothed my face leaving it feeling soft and refreshed. That was a positive introduction for sure. And yes I did patch test it on the back of my neck for a few days before trying it my face which is my normal routine when it comes to new skincare.

This toner is clear in color with a light watery texture and pleasant sheer rose scent. It exfoliates quite gently and effectively while balancing my skin, making it lovely to use. I feel like it does a really good job of prepping my skin for other skincare products and I'm always amazed by how smooth and supple it leaves my face. I've also seen improved clarity with continued use. This is the only toner in my roster that I apply with a cotton pad and I've come to quite enjoy the ritual of doing so. I like to keep the bottle in the refrigerator so it's even more refreshing. I will also say that this toner does live up to it's claims of being suitable for all skin types because I had my husband try it for a week and it balanced his oily skin just as well as my it did my dry skin. I don't have anything negative to say about the MŪN Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner and I"m excited to get my #munglow on! I also happen to really like the brand philosophy as well. I definitely want to explore more of their range in the future and I've already added their Aknari Brightening Serum my wish list.

MŪN Skin Care Anarose Hydrating Rose Toner is sold in a 100ml bottle for $65. If this sounds steep, keep in mind that this size is a three month supply and if you break down the cost per use, it comes out to about 36 cents each time and you're also getting real quality ingredients. There is also a 15ml travel size available that you can trial.  This toner can be purchased through MŪN Skincare, leVert Beauty, Beauty Heroes, and The Detox Market.

Ooo...this sounds like another winner, Rowena:) I love the ingredient list! Thanks for the heads up. I'm still loyal to the Son&Park Beauty Water (am on my 4th bottle, I think) but always good to know about alternatives:)

I used to be the same, toner meant alcohol for me. These days I use several, mostly hydrating or exfoliating, and the sound of this one is amazing.

I have long used toner because I was brought up to never skip that step. Toners these days are so different though, now they have multiple benefits and I layer two every time which helps my dry skin so much. I have been seeing this brand all over Instagram for the past few months and I am definitely intrigued. I love how you broke down the cost, Rowena, it makes the price easier to handle.

I was honestly just shopping for rose water toners last night. I've heard lots of great things about them and the benefits are countless. I too haven't used toners in a while and relate to that cotton ball dripping with toner ha! Thanks for that 3month supply detail cos my first instinct was umm, price too steep. I'll give this a try. Happy Monday!

Yeah that is my memory to of toners. But this one seems more like a cross between a toner and a serum. Kind of pricey but being that it is kind of like a serum it seems to be worth the price. And gorgeous pacaking.

I do use toners too! I love it when they come with a rose scent. The packaging of this one is so minimalistic and pretty! Wondering if they have it in Malaysia haha :D

This toner sounds lovely. I bet I would love that rose scent. Mun skin seems like a great brand.

It was interesting to read more about toners and how you use them, for example, how you rotate your toners depending on your skin needs. That makes sense, because in different weather, our skin needs different things.

I had no idea that you didn't use toners very much due to your past experience. I actually swear by toner for my skincare routine. I use rosewater in my skincare routine because my mum did, but I also use a chamomile toner for many years since I have severe allergies. I will have to check out MŪN's toner because I like this brand anyway. Thanks for sharing, enjoy the week! /Madison
