Skincare Advice I'd Give My Younger Self

Skincare Tips, Skincare Advice I'd Give My Younger Self

I don't think there is too much I'd change if I could turn back time (maybe buy stock in Apple and Amazon LOL) but sometimes I do wish I had became a little more skincare savvy at a younger age. When you're 20, not getting enough sleep or sleeping in your makeup are fairly easy to spring back from but these types of transgressions do have a way of catching up with one later in life. This got me to thinking about my current skincare habits and the things I wish I knew earlier.

1. Wear sunscreen every day even on cloudy days, preferably one with broad spectrum coverage.

2. Don't try to tan... like ever.

3. Always take off your makeup and wash your face before bed.

4. Don't skip out on sleep because it's benefits are real.

5. Don't pick at your skin.

6. Don't forget about your neck.

7. Use eye cream.

8. Avoid harsh facial products and those with alcohol.

9. Exfoliation can be beneficial but be careful and don't overdo it.

10. Invest in skincare over makeup.

11. Masks are a great way to supplement your skincare and address specific issues.

12. Ingredients matter so become familiar with the good and the bad.

13. Watch what you eat and ease up on the sugar... that stuff is evil.

14. Water should be your drink of choice whenever possible.

15. Change your pillowcases regularly.

16. Less is more... like really.

What skincare advice would you give your younger self?

I definitely agree, especially about getting enough sleep and applying sunscreen (little one wears a hat daily!) I make some masks too - never underestimate powerful ingredients that are right in your own home! Also use what's right for your skin type, not what's trendy!

All of the above and read blogs about skincare instead news about celebrity crushes...

Morning Rowena! I'm in your same situation, I try to invest more in skincare over makeup. I have to say Ive always been good especially on removing makeup before sleeping and try to do my usual hours a night but if I turn back the time Id sure avoid to tan, when I was a teen I was like a lizard, so bad!

Great advice especially investing on skin care over makeup. I will said always moisturize and keep skin hydrated.

Taking makeup off before going to bed is very, very good advice! Hmm, I definitely need to ease up on the sugar though haha...

Amen to all of the above and stop partying until 5am like almost every day... I had no idea how I even managed to do that!

Obviously, all of these are good, but #5 and #13 are things I really would have told myself 20 years ago.

OMG I love this post! Water Water and more WATER. Then I would tell myself to exfoliate and splurge on a great moisturizer. You gave your younger self some awesome tips.

Gosh! The eye cream for sure. I wish I started using it in high school. And another advice I'd give myself is that you're never too young to start a good routine:)
Great list, Rowena!

Haha, totally agree with your suggestion about buying those stocks :P But on the note of skincare, I can't agree with #1 enough, and I wish I could actually go back to when I was a child and tell myself that! #13 and #14 are both something I'm working on actively right now, which can be painful because I have a huge sweet tooth. Another advice I'd give myself would be to take better care of the skin on my body as well. Body lotions were non-existent in my routine until my mid-20's.
