5 Goals For 2020

5 Goals For 2020, Goals for the new year

As I've said before I'm not really one for resolutions. Goals work better because they act as a means of motivation to provide focus on what I want to do. 2019 was mostly good. There were some transitions in a positive direction as well as some that went the other way like certain health issues for both myself and my husband. Living better with less continued to be a focus and this drove a lot of our decisions. Our trips to Miami and Hawaii were highlights. And the single best purchase I made last year was the Dyson V8 Absolute Vacuum for high performance, sheer ease of use and generally making my life better. Now that I've reflected on the lessons learned from last year, I can set my intentions for where I want to go this year.

1. WORK ON FITNESS AND HEALTH
My weight and BMI are fine but I could definitely stand to be stronger, more fit and have more stamina and that's something I feel could keep me healthier overall. I went from not getting a cold in years to getting 3 in one winter and I don't want to go there again. I manage myself pretty well and eat a mostly plant based flexitarian diet without any sugar or alcohol so that's good start. I talked to my doctor about intermittent fasting and it can work for me. We usually eat just 2 meals on the weekend so I don't think it'll be too hard to transition this to the week as well.  Weight loss isn't a goal  but I wouldn't mind it.  I'm mostly interested in the benefits of improved focus, better heart health and disease prevention. My current workout routine consists of a combination of yoga and pilates 5 times a week. I will be adding some form of weight training and incorporating a cardio workout to build strength and boost circulation and immunity.

2. CONTINUE SAVING FOR RETIREMENT
The FIRE (financial independence, retire early) movement really appeals to us. We managed to reach a level of financial independence by paying off our mortgage early a few years ago. While committing to cutting out unnecessary spending while living comfortably, we were able to continue to be debt-free and achieve six figure savings again last year. We feel like we can make improvements in the area of investments so we've been trying to educate ourselves so that we can make some moves to diversify our income streams.

3. CONTINUE TO MINIMIZE CLUTTER
Living well to me means living in a clean and uncluttered home and this takes work. Adhering to a streamlined cleaning/organizing process while continually editing and not buying things that we don't need are key to success. Doing this also helps us to reduce waste and live a more sustainable lifestyle which is important to me.  I will also continue to adjust my policy on PR samples. I've cut back significantly on what I accept but I realized that I could do better when I packed up two boxes of unused beauty products to donate to Project Beauty Share before the holidays. I was glad to have a worthy cause to send them to but there is no good reason I should have so many products accumulated in the first place.

4. CONTINUE BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE WARDROBE
When I shared tips on building a more sustainable wardrobe, it was based on practices that I personally adopted over the past few years. I'm long past the point where I feel a need to chase every trend that comes and goes. I know my tastes and preferences well and want a wardrobe that is practical, classic, stylish and long lasting. This means being able to identify needs over wants and being more intentional and paying attention to tailoring and quality when it comes to shopping instead of just mindlessly consuming. I'm proud of the fact that I have pieces in my closet from years back that I still wear and I want to be able to do that with anything new I add going forward. I'm also trying to take better care of my clothing and accessories so they will last longer.

5. TAKE BETTER ADVANTAGE OF ALL THAT NEW YORK HAS TO OFFER
I love living in NYC because there is so much to see and do. But being a homebody who has FOGO and married to someone who shares a similar mindset, we end up just hanging out at home most of the time. Dining out and trying new restaurants is something we're always up for especially with all the exciting new additions that have popped up downtown but we need to venture outside of our neighborhood and adjacent more especially since we discovered the NYC Ferry over the summer which is such great and easy way to get to Brooklyn. We caught three Broadway shows (Book Of Mormon, Mean Girls and Frozen) last year and plan to make an effort to see more this year. I also want to get back into visiting museums and galleries regularly as well.

Are you setting any goals for 2020?

Yes, I have a few goals that I set, even though most of them are continuing on a path I already set in 2019, be it in fitness (I have been doing IF for several years now and love how it helps me), minimizing waste and financially.
We do in fact share quite a few goals.

Such great goals, chingu:) We definitely share #3 and #4. It's really such a game changer....being able to minimize and declutter and just living a lifestyle that is best for the environment. Here's to 2020 and achieving what we aim for:) XOXO

These are super goals, attainable and realistic too!! I am moving towards eating better and exercising more, I have been sluggish and I need to fix that. Being more sustainable is a great one too. It's really important and benefits not just ourselves but the planet too. I hope you reach all your goals with easy lovely :) x

These are great goals to have for the year ahead! I like the sustainable wardrobe one - I've been trying to buy less the past few years and I'm hoping I can continue to not buy a lot this year - although I have already spent an entire gift card in the January sales, ha!

Hope that your week is going well :) It's a busy week here as it's my first week back at work after the Christmas break! I've got what I wore for Christmas up on the blog now.

Last year my goal was to start living in the moment and I definitely achieved that. This year I hope to eat and live a healthier lifestyle, cut back on processed food, make everything from scratch. I also hope to be more conscious in my purchases, reuse more than recycling.

These are all such great goals, and I especially relate to the one in minimizing clutter! Marikondo-ing our home last year has made me so much better about the space and also helped me become more mindful about what I buy and accept from PR. I've been giving away products to family and friends, but I want to be even more stringent with what I accept this year.

I honestly haven't thought of anything. I barely made it through 2019! I do know that I want to live more sustainably, limit the use and purchase of plastic. And material things too. Though health and wellbeing is something I need to focus on more too. Especially get older, things don't heal and pain doesn't lesson as promptly as it used to.

I'm loving your goals and I have similar ones! I'm definitely committing to getting more fit and have signed up for a few active classes (Muay Thai!) We haven't made a specific savings goal, but are generally good about it. We are making a donation goal though because as many husband pointed out, people give less of their income as they earn more. I'm also constantly battling clutter which is hard in a full house! Little by little, we are getting a bit better though.
