If current events are any indication, principles matter now more than ever. If you live by a certain set of principles, they shouldn’t change just because they're too hard to follow and if that's why you abandon them, you probably didn’t truly have those principles to begin with. The point is that if you really believe in your principles, you would find a way to practice them even if it's not the easy road to take. Anyone has the right to do whatever they want but at least have the courage not be be fake about being righteous and be prepared to live with the consequences of your actions. Your actions should match your words, otherwise it’s just hypocrisy. It’s not enough to say you have principles, you actually have to uphold them in how you live.

I know that I am not the most loved person in my family. But I also know that much of the fact that I am not the favorite person of many is that I stick to my principles.

ReplyDeleteI love what you know here! If you're principles are changing during these times (for the better), then good for you. The only constant thing in life is change.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should be ready to live with the consequences of their actions because every action has a reaction.

Amen, chingu! As they say, "If you're going to talk the talk, you have to be able to walk the walk." I myself know that perhaps, I may not have been the perfect example of doing the action that my principles hold. For example, we are taught that you have to forgive everyone. But do I? Nope. I hold grudges like mad! But these days, it's really important that if we stand by equality for all, then we should actually do something about it!

I believe some people have fear to live by their principles to consume what others think.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree and know you stick to yours as well. i do have to check myself, especially because I have to show my kids I'm following through with my and not just preaching to them.
ReplyDeleteNo truer words, I have seen so many people true colour the past few months and it's not pretty.
