4 Mistakes You Should Avoid When You're Feeling Ill

Are you feeling run down and under the weather? If that's the case, here are some of the mistakes that you need to avoid which could actually make you feel a lot worse.

Trying Old Wives Tales
If you research online, you’ll come across numerous ‘miracle cures’ for typical illnesses that will supposedly make you feel better instantly. The problem is that they just aren’t effective and there’s a reason that they aren’t recommended by doctors. There are countless examples of this including eating a spoonful of sugar with the medicine. It’s not just a song, people really believe this works. The reality is that this is just a way to help kids take a medicine that tastes foul and will have absolutely no positive impact on the body.

Mind Over Matter
One of the worst things that you can do when you’re feeling rundown is to pretend that you are fine. People who buy into this idea are essentially using the mind over matter approach. In other words, if you act like you’re feeling better than this is going to trigger your body to act like you are too. This hardly ever works and acting like you’re fine is actually going to put more pressure on your body while you’re fighting off a virus or illness. Instead, you need to make sure that you are getting plenty of rest and giving your body the time off it needs to heal.

Drinking
There’s a common misconception that you can drink when you’re ill and that it might actually kill off an infection that is currently in your body. This does make a certain level of sense however, alcohol effects on your body when you are unwell will not be positive. One of the main problems with drinking while you are sick is that it does lead to issues with dehydration. Your body is already going to be dehydrated if you are sick so ingesting alcohol is just going to make matters a lot worse. Instead, you need to make sure that you are drinking a lot of water which is going to replenish lost fluids and naturally clear out and detox your body.

Taking Antibiotics
One of the most common things to do when you feel sick is to take antibiotics. You might even take a trip to the doctors in the hopes that they will prescribe you some. The problem with antibiotics is that they may not prove to be effective for the particular illness that you are suffering from. And the more you take antibiotics, the weaker your immune system becomes. You’ll find that if you constantly rely on medications like this, your body will struggle to fight off viruses without help in the future. They can last for longer and the symptoms can become more frustrating.

Hopefully this helps you understand some of the mistakes that you should avoid when your body is fighting off an illness. If you follow this advice, you’ll be better prepared to make sure that you don’t make things worse for yourself.

This post has such good advice Rowena. I notice a lot of doctors have stopped prescribing antibiotics unless they have to usually as a last resort.

I'm definitely on that mind over matter table. I ignore it and think it'll go away and then I wake up on a random morning and feel like trash. I could have treated it in the early stages but no, my big head always thinks otherwise.
Thanks for lowkey calling me out........hahahahahaha.
