Your Bed Is Uncomfortable
Did you know that one of the leading causes of poor quality of sleep can be as simple as sleeping on an uncomfortable bed? What some people don't realize is that they must replace their mattresses every few years. If not, they can start to sag and not provide proper support which can impact your comfort. Whenever you go to shop for a new mattress or bed, it's essential to spend some time testing each mattress to determine the best one for your posture, height, weight, and typical sleeping position.
Your Medication Causes Insomnia
The shocking truth about prescription medications as well as over-the-counter medicine is that they might have a long list of potential side effects. While most people may not experience any of them, those who do can unfortunately have some pretty terrible reactions. You might not realize it, but insomnia can be one of the top side effects of a number of common prescription and over-the-counter medications. If you take any medication for any medical conditions, it's worth looking into whether insomnia is one of the side effects.
You Have An Underlying Medical Condition
Another common reason for sleep problems can be down to underlying medical conditions. For example, sleep apnea can cause you to stop breathing temporarily and wake you up several times throughout the night. If you're worried that you might have an underlying medical condition that is keeping you from sleeping properly, consider seeing an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor for further diagnosis.
Your Bed Partner Keeps You Awake
You're always going to have a better quality of sleep if you're alone in your bed at night. Of course, that's not always possible, especially if you have a significant other in your life. As you both close your eyes and go to sleep, what you may not realize is that your bed partner might be the cause for you to not have a restless night's sleep. If that's the case, it's worth having your partner figure out why they might be feeling restless at night. It could be something as simple as feeling cold at night or not having enough room to spread out which can be easily corrected.
This is only a partial list of some of the possible reasons why you aren't getting a restful night's sleep. But the points outlined are some of the most common causes of insomnia so one might apply to you. And once you know the cause, you can try seeking out a solution that works for you.

I was just thinking this was me the other night. I had such a hard time staying asleep. My mom has always said that a good mattress is so important for rest. Great tips Rowena.
