Reading...
What if you could take a vacation to your past? This novel by Emma Straub puts a magical spin on time travel as the main character Alice who is about turn 40 wakes up back in 1996 on her 16th birthday. The story itself is sweet and heartfelt though certain parts do lag but it's a fun read.

Watching...
Adapted from a webtoon of the same name, D.P. which stands for “Deserter Pursuit” depicts some of the harsh realities of Korean military life. While the subject matter is heavy, the way the show is compellingly presented with action and suspense is entertaining and thought provoking. It also features an excellent cast that includes Jung Hae In And Koo Gyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun and Son Suk Ku. I didn't think I like would like this because of the topic. While it is intense, it has totally drawn us in. I can definitely understand why this show has received so many accolades and awards as well as a recently announced second season.

Watched...
I was looking forward to this one because of Ji Chang Wook and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't quite what I expected since I hadn't read the webtoon Annarasumanara that it was based on. The musical numbers both enhanced and detracted from the story at the same time but they were all beautifully executed. The drama is a visual treat with solid performances. I did like the message that it sends about believing in yourself and having the strength to realize that you don't have to conform to standards set by society to live a meaningful life.

Eating...
I like to make tabbouleh, a Middle Eastern salad of bulgur wheat mixed with finely chopped parsley, tomatoes, mint, and onion, seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper, as a side dish. It is so tasty and refreshing. I realized that I can add more protein by subbing the bulgur with quinoa. It actually works well and tastes even better. I use this recipe from Ina Garten.

Cooking With...
I adore shakshuka which is eggs poached in a saucy mix of tomatoes, peppers, aromatics, herbs, and Moroccan spices. This delicious sauce is the perfect shortcut to simple shakshuka and I've also found it makes for a lovely dip and marinara sauce.

Wearing...
I got this on sale because it looked like a good effortless summer dress and it is exactly that. It's a wash and wear style that I think will travel well. Moreover it's super comfortable and appears polished even though it is made of a fine t-shirt material. My favorite thing might be how tall and slim it makes me look. Fit is relaxed. I purchased a S.

I recently retired a Ralph Lauren shirt that looked just like this and replaced it with this one. I got the other shirt during my college internship with the designer and it served me well for many years. I also expect  that I will be wearing this one for many years as well. It's well made and super soft. Fit is roomy and TTS. I purchased a 4.

I've always been a fan of cherry motifs so I was instantly drawn to these pavé cherry earrings. I love how they add a touch of color and cheeky fun to any outfit. I especially like to pair these with monochrome and neutral looks.

June is the month that we go for all our annual medical exams and scans. My physical went well for the most part except for having tachycardia which my doctor is sending me to get an echocardiogram as a precautionary measure. I've been able to manage my anxiety but have been getting heart palpitations sometimes when under stress. It's not like the pandemic and ant-Asian racist attacks have magically disappeared. I'm still jumpy and don’t feel safe most of the time when I go out and it sucks.

The book sounds interesting. I grew up eating shakshouka, it's such a wonderful N. African staple meal, we eat it with lamb. I hope your June is starting off well, and wish you good health with the rest of your (echocardiogram) checkup. Managaing anxiety is so important, I definitely understand. :)
