Eye Candy : Kim Hyun Joo For Marie Claire

It's amazing that I haven't featured Kim Hyun Joo more since she is one of my favorite actresses. She is absolutely gorgeous in this pictorial for Marie Claire Korea. All of the black and white images are particularly stunning. While Hyun Joo does get her fair share of work, I haven't kept up with her and the last project I watched was actually Fantastic which I adored. Hyun Joo has been a darling of Netflix and director Yeon Sang Ho (Train to Busan) having appeared in the horror drama Hellbound and the sci-fi movie Jung_E which debuted atop Netflix’s most-watched list and has since become the most-watched non-English movie on the streaming site. We watched Jung_E over the weekend and while it was visually impressive, we found the story to be a little lacking. Hyun Joo was excellent as a soldier who becomes an AI.

She is also currently appearing in the drama series Trolley. Trolley is a mystery centered around the trolley dilemma which is this: A tram is running down a track and is out control. If it continues on its course unchecked and undiverted, it will run over five people who have been tied to the tracks. You have the chance to divert it onto another track simply by pulling a lever. If you do this, though, the tram will kill a man who happens to be standing on this other track. What will you do?

This premise is quite intriguing and the series has been praised for it's strong acting performances. We 've just been waiting for it to complete airing before we watch it. Hyun Joo is currently working on another drama series, Family Gravesite that will air on Netflix later this year. She will also presumably be in the next season of Hellbound which I didn't watch but my husband did. With the massive success of Squid Game last year and The Glory more recently, Netflix is planning it's largest-ever lineup of South Korean content this year with 34 new and returning titles set to roll out. It's a smart decision since audience data showed “over 60% of all Netflix members” watched Korean titles last year. As someone who started watching Korean dramas in the 2000's, my interest in them has steadily grown as I've seen the quality of the stories and production quality far surpass US television for years already. It's nice how their shows end after a fixed number of episodes instead of languishing in mediocrity in perpetuity. And their TV shows look films while American tv still looks like TV. We only still have a Netflix subscription because of their Asian content cause they sure product a whole lot of garbage. If anyone is looking for some recommendations, hit me up. I love chatting with people who enjoy K-dramas as much as I do.
