I'm often told that I'm not living well because I insist on working out every day and I pass on junk food. But this is precisely what keeps me living well and full of energy because I'm avoiding pain and inflammation. Every workout and every healthy meal is a small deposit into my future well-being. Exercise is harder but being unfit is harder. Being fit makes daily life easier, more enjoyable, and less draining. I'm very proud of the fact that I actually have the ability to work out at a high level now and this motivates me to want to do it even more because it feels really good as well. Okay maybe not always during the workouts but definitely afterwards. I've never regretted a workout and a workout isn't a reason to eat wrong. I look at food as nourishment and fuel, not an emotional escape. Giving up sugar years ago had such a profound effect on my life as well as my skin. And yes I do have a burger or fried chicken occasionally but that is not my norm. Healthy can also be delicious and when you take into consideration that everything you consume will show up on your face and body, it's easier to make good choices.
Self care in its purest form requires a disciplined commitment to your well-being. It's about eating nourishing food that doesn't cause inflammation, mindful movement, restorative rest and avoiding things that can harm your health like sugar, alcohol and immune system disregulating viruses. It's about taking as much care of your body as it does for you. Real self-care is uncomfortable. It's discipline that looks like love. Once your health is gone, it can be impossible to recover. I was lucky enough to work my way back and that is why I am doing everything in my power not to lose mine again. Just remember that small habits today can make a big difference tomorrow.

True. All truth. Love to you friend.
We all have to do what works for us. And if it makes you feel better and happier then that is what's important. People are always finding reasons to judge.
I agree with you, eating healthy impacts our physical and mental well-being. I remember the time when I lived with inflammation and it prevented me from being productive and caused me exhaustion.
The quote at the beginning hits the nail on the head. That's exactly it.
Staying fit and taking care of your body is also about taking responsibility for yourself.
You're doing great. People today have become horribly lazy. Even doing the bare minimum for our health is becoming seen as 'doing too much'. I really dislike this mentality. Sometimes people call giving up 'self-care'. No, my dear people- discipline is only true self-care. What truly matters is what matters in the long run.
We are not responsible for a lot of things that are happening in this world, but we are absolutely responsible for taking care of our body. There are no excuses for destroying our health and body for the sake of convenience and laziness.
I did a bone density test this year and the results were bad. Imagine what they would have been like after two decades of being on medication that destroys my bones if I hadn't worked out. Thank God I have worked out systematically since I was 20! I do this test every few years due to my medication and up to now the results were always perfect. As soon as I got the test results, I have increased and adapted my exercise routine.
Unfortunately, I cannot live without being on a lot of immune suppressant medication, and while the side-effects are sometimes quite horrible, at least I'm alive, I work normal hours as a teacher and I still find time and energy to do other things and jobs. If I haven't had healthy habits for the last two decades, none of that would be possible. Discipline is what sets us free. Laziness brings ruin to our lives. That is honestly what I believe in.
