I get that exfoliation is a key step in any good skincare routine but since I have sensitive skin that's on the dry side, I tend to take a less is more approach to it. I was also told recently by a skincare expert that over exfoliation can lead to hyperpigmentation and that has only made me only more wary. Still I do recognize that it's necessary so I try to be gentle in my approach. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant was a product that I had been meaning to try so I was more than happy when I received a free sample.
About the Brand: Dermalogica is a US based professional skincare company that has been around since 1986. Their product line is focused on improving skin health without the use of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts.
Key Ingredients: Rice Bran and Rice Extract gently micro-exfoliate skin surface to facilitate penetration of the Skin Brightening Complex. Papain Enzyme (papaya proteinase) and Salicylic Acid to help dissolve excess surface cells. Skin Brightening Complex of Licorice and Bearberry to brighten and even tone. Green Tea, Gingko and Colloidal Oatmeal to soothe the skin and leave it clear and refreshed. Formulated without artificial ingredients or colors.
Packaging: A clinical looking white plastic bottle that feels light yet substantial. It has a screw off top and the product is dispensed via two small openings.
Price: $52 for a 2.8 oz. Sounds pricey but considering you only have to use 1/2 teaspoon each time, one bottle can last for quite awhile especially if you don't use it daily.
My Impressions: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is to be used after cleansing. The formula which activates upon contact with water should be dispensed into wet hands and worked together to create a creamy paste before applying to the face in circular motions for one minute. I was impressed that this product is as gentle as it claims and I liked that it has no scent. It leaves my skin feeling a little tight but soft. After 2 weeks of use, I can report that I haven't experienced any irritation and my complexion does appear abit smoother and brighter. I haven't been using daily - more like 2 -3 times a week, following my double cleansing process. I'm not sure if I'll step it up but for now that's about right. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is supposed to be suitable for all skin types so I've had hubster use it too. His skin is more oily side and he's had some positive results as well. I've noticed that his pores do look more refined and polished with usage every other day. I would say that overall this has worked pretty well for both of us.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is available through Dermalogica and other retailers like Ulta, Birchbox and Drugstore.com.
Throughout the month of October, Dermalogica is holding "Face Map Our Nation" events across the country. You can attend a local event for a complimentary Face Mapping Skin Analysis and #shareyourmap with @dermalogica for a chance to win a prescribed regimen worth up to $250. Is exfoliation part of your skincare routine? What do you use?

Morning Rowena! As you, I have sensitive skin so I usually pay attention when I choose exfoliants. I never heard of this brand before but the product itself sounds very good and gentle, I wouldnt use it everyday either as I fear too, but every other day. Is a bit pricey but for sure worth. Have a wonderful weekend ahead my dear, many hugs! xo
I haven't heard about Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant but since my sister is a beautician and she lives in the States, I am going to send her your review. I am sure she will be happy to read it. Exfoliation is not a part of my skincare routine as my skin is problematic and oily and I avoid using many things on my face. But I guess I'm in a mistake. I liked your review, especially I liked the ingredients. Thank you for sharing! :)

I like Dermologica, they have great products!! Am glad this worked well for you. Having sensitive skin can be annoying when it comes to products. I have to watch what I use as well, the slightest thing can set my skin off crazily. But, I'm happy this worked for you :)) Great review doll. Have a wonderful weekend xx
heard great things about this product , but too scared to try as my skin is really sensitive

I remember trying it once and loving the results so much I wanted to switch to everything Dermalogica. :) These days I do prefer more natural and organic, but still think it's a good brand. x
Hi Rowena, I definitely do use exfoliating cleanser and an facial mask once a week as a part of my skincare regimen. I like Dermologica and have used a few of their products and loved them. Have a wonderful weekend. xo

Hi Rowena, it sounds a bit pricey but it's okay if you don't have to use much of it. I haven't tried this brand yet but I use them often. 2-3 times a week.
I tried a sample of this. I liked the results, definitely, but I found the product a bit fussy to work with. A bit messy and time-consuming.
Amazing product nice review, have a lovely weekend.
love that product!
To be honest, I need to take better care of my skin than I do. I wish I'd been better about it in my twenties and thirties. I'm trying to be more proactive these days!
I have (or had) this exact product and really enjoyed it (it's all gone now). I also have dry skin so I try not to exfoliate too much. I love how well this worked.

I try to exfoliate at 1-2 times a week. I'd love to try out Dermalogica because I've heard good things, but I'm currently using the line DermaDoctor and it has been working just fine for me so far. I might give Dermalogica a go once I've used up my DD products. I usually just use about a tsp of baking soda as an exfoliant, it's cheap and gets the job done and it doesn't irritate my skin. ^^;
I don't know this brand, but this product looks great!!!
Happy friday doll!!!

Glad to hear this one agrees with you! I really like this one and depend on it for gentle polishing on the skin. The bottle is huge and lasts forever, so it is a pretty nice value, too. :)
Dear Rowena, I have very sensitive skin too, so I use only exfoliators packed with natural ingredients (like apricot kernels). I haven't find the perfect match yet!
Thank you for the useful review!

Hey Rowena, Dermalogica is quite well-known in Singapore but because if its price tag, the products are usually used by people with sensitive skin. They are less harsh on our skin. This product sounds promising, the ingredients natural as they could get. It's great that it works on you and the hubster. I'm so lazy to use products with extra step. I once used Haba washing powder and the pouring of powder and mixing with water is certainly not for lazy and on-the-go person like me.
I saw Faye Wong and I'm gonna check out that post now!

I think they sell this line at my local nail salon. I may check it out but spent too much money at Birch Box and Zara. It is dangerous to work in Soho. Walked in to Zara to buy some "staples" and walked out with a faux leather dress...hmmn not exactly a staple.

I've heard of this brand and have heard a lot of good things about it. Like you I'm wary about exfoliating, so I do it only once in a blue moon. Thanks for the review.
My skin is so weird! it is super dry in winter and very greasy in summer lol so I need to switch products depending on the season! this product would come super handy now that the cooler days are starting! thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on it!

Glad to read that you are happy with this product! I exfoliate occasionally, a couple of times a month. I wouldn't say that it is part of my established beauty routine.
Lovely products, and great review!

Wonderful review, Rowena! I exfoliate at least once a week for a more even skin tone.

I'm glad you experienced good results from this product, I can't say that I've used Dermalogica before however my brother used various of their products whilst attempting to clear up his acne - it certainly did a good job, although his acne was so bad in the end that he had to use Roacutane! Thanks for the thorough review, Rowena.. and I hope you've had a relaxing weekend so far! :)

I use to, but just like you I have sensitive skin and avoided it. I've been wanting to try this brand, so it's good to hear that it worked and didn't bother your skin. Excellent review Rowena.
