I Took A Seaweed Bath and I Liked It

Seaweed Bath, The Seaweed Bath Co., Seaweed Detox Bath, The Seaweed Bath Co. Whole Seaweed Detox Bath Review

This review is in partnership with Soap Hope. Soap Hope is a unique online shop with a mission. They carry a premium range of all natural products at competitive prices and 100% of their profits are invested into a program that help women in need around the world. Soap Hope believes that women are the future and they transform the lives of impoverished women and help them become self sufficient entrepreneurs. I looked into Soap Hope's Good Returns business model whereby before investment returns are paid to the owners/shareholders, every dollar first spends one year in service to good (as an interest free loan to a sustainable social enterprise). This alone is admirable and Soap Hope is equally impressive as a reliable source for natural, wholesome, and eco-friendly products. I really like how they clearly disclose a full ingredient list for every product they carry. I shop online all the time any way and I will now be shopping at Soap Hope where my dollars will actually make a difference. They offer free shipping at $45 and always have a number of promotions going.

I was interested in the Seaweed Bath Co.'s Ocean Fresh Whole Seaweed Detox Bath because it combines two things that I love - seaweed and detox baths. Seaweed happens to be a food that I enjoy eating (roast seaweed is an excellent snack) and detox baths are part of my weekly wellness/self care routine. Seaweed is rich in vitamins and minerals that can provide a multitude of benefits when ingested or used topically on skin.

About the Brand: The Seaweed Bath Co. is on a mission to harness the power of nature and enhance lives by creating gentle, effective products, based on their expertise in seaweed and a deep passion for natural skin and hair health. Their unique product line works to help detoxify and hydrate skin and hair, while protecting the environment and supporting local communities.

Product Claims: The Seaweed Bath Co.'s Ocean Fresh Whole Seaweed Detox Bath was created to bring the traditional Irish spa experience into your home. Following the philosophy of Thalassotherapy (from the Greek word thalassa, meaning "sea" which involves ocean-based treatments utilizing seaweed, salt water and marine mud). The unique minerals released by the seaweed in hot water provide a natural way to care for the body, both inside and out. This product is suitable for everyone, but is especially useful to improve the condition of red, dry, flaking or scaling skin and is cruelty-free, paraben-free, gluten-free and eco-friendly.

Key Ingredients: The Seaweed Bath Company selects only the best organic, sustainably hand-harvested, 100% natural bladderwrack seaweed (fucus vesiculosus) from the North Atlantic to make their Ocean-Fresh Whole Seaweed Detox Bath. Bladderwrack seaweed has multiple benefits. It is nutrient rich with over 65 vitamins, minerals, amino acids that provide rejuvenating benefits to skin and hair. Moderate iodine levels help the skin's natural detoxification process to flush environmental toxins and heavy metals. Fucoidan and phlorotannin, two bioactives, have been shown in numerous studies to reduce redness and irritation in inflamed skin. An abundance of amino acids helps to increase hydration and improve skin elasticity. UV-absorbing bioactive compounds have been shown to help counteract the damaging effects of UV-A and UV-B radiation. Bladderwrack seaweed helps to increase microcirculation to aid the body in shedding excess fluids which can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

How to Use: Take seaweed out of package and place desired amount into the provided mesh drawstring pouch. Place pouch under running water in the bathtub and fill. Upon entering bath, lightly squeeze the seaweed within the pouch to release the minerals and nutrients. Relax in bath with the seaweed for 15 - 30 minutes. When finished, remove the mesh pouch from the bath and lay the seaweed out to dry. The seaweed can be used for two to four baths within one week of opening.

My Impressions: I've used this product in two baths so far. This is real seaweed for sure. The mesh pouch is definitely necessary to keep the seaweed contained, otherwise it will be all over your bath. However the pouch itself could be better designed. It had a tiny opening so that didn't really expand making it pretty difficult to get the seaweed inside. Once I managed to get the desired amount inside (I used half the bag), I popped it into my tub with the water running and almost immediately the scent of the seaweed was released. I happen to like that smell and it made it feel as if the beach was in my bathroom but do beware if you're not fond of the smell of seaweed or the ocean. When I squeezed the pouch to release the minerals and nutrients as directed, tiny particles were also dispersed. These were caught in the trap when I drained the tub so it was no big deal and easy to clean up. I usually use a blend of essential oils in my baths but I skipped it while using this product to get the full experience.

The seaweed fragrance really does make it feel like you're in the ocean which I found pleasant and soothing. I was concerned that my skin might become pruny without my usual concoction of epsom salts and dead sea salts but the natural salts and oils in the seaweed did prevent that from happening and actually left it noticeably softer and silky smooth afterwards. I came out of the bath feeling a little like I was hung over and wanted sleep which is not unusual as it means the detox is kicking in. I made sure to drink a glass of water before and after as I always do with my detox baths to remain hydrated and help flush the toxins out of my body. After the initial use, I removed the seaweed from the pouch and laid it out to dry overnight before storing it in a ziploc bag to reuse a few days later. The seaweed scent was not as potent the second time around and I could see similar skin benefits but I wouldn't recommend using the same seaweed more than twice. I enjoyed my experience with this Whole Seaweed Detox Bath and could see myself using it as an addition to my regular detox baths since I really believe in the power of a good detox bath, I wish this had been around the last time I broke out in full scale hives on my body due to an allergic reaction. I have a feeling it would've really helped. The only thing I didn't like is the mesh pouch since it's not easy to get the seaweed into but that wouldn't keep me from using this again and I might get make my own pouch in the future.

This is the first time I came across using seaweed as a detox bath, it's really interesting and thank you for a very detailed post, Rowena. I'm not sure if this is the right product for me as I personally am not the biggest fan of bath but I will check what else this company has, I love the sounds of Soap Hope as a company.

It's great to hear about companies like Soap Hope that really tries to make a difference and contribute to a good cause, you know? I'm not much of a bath person and have never done a detox bath, but this Ocean Fresh one sounds really interesting. Thanks for the heads up, Rowena:)

PS I marathoned My Lovely Sam Soon and finished it on Monday...yup...needless to say, I'm now a Hyun Bin fan as well. (I'm not monogamous with my love for the Kdrama leading men...hehe)

I've never thought of trying a bath detox before, though as far as they go seaweed certainly sounds like a great option! I love how you've described the scent - bringing the beach to the bathroom! :)

I haven't taken a bath in ages, mainly because I would need to pass through the room my son is sleeping in at night to get to the tub, and taking a bath in the daytime with a baby around isn't happening. But I could use a detox bath again, it has been too long.

So nice to see a different review from you, Rowena! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading about products, but it's nice sometimes to read something like this for a change. I don't take baths, because I have never had a bath tube, but it is something I think can be very relaxing. I can't image a scent of seaweed, but having in mind I like the smell of ocean, I think I'd enjoy it. Have a nice day, Rowena!xo

Interesting product. I think I would try it since I enjoy detox bathing. Although, I've only had a seaweed facial and body wrap, in addition to eating tons of it. I also like Soap Hope's initiative and effort to aid women in need with their programme.
