Simple Tips For Turning Your Bedroom Into A Sanctuary

Tips For Turning Your Bedroom Into A Sanctuary

We spend many hours each day in our bedrooms. And while you might think that this room should be simply fit enough for sleeping in, this is far from the truth. Indeed, you do much more in the bedroom than sleeping. If you have a safe space to relax after a stressful day, you will be more likely to overcome difficulties in your life. If you've neglected looking after your bedroom as well as you should have this might be the right time to change that. These simple tips will help you get started and create a sanctuary to retire and relax in.

Declutter
The things you have in your bedroom will impact your mood and your sleep. Clean up and donate items your local charity or simply give away your unwanted items to your friends. You can improve the air quality in your bedroom if you have fewer items, not to mention that you don’t have to start an expedition every time you are looking for a dress or accessory. If you don’t have enough storage, it might be time to invest in some more cabinets, so you can enjoy more space and a better environment.

Decorate the Windows
Whether you sleep next to the windows or not, the first thing you might do in the morning is checking the weather. Wouldn’t it be much nicer if you had a luxurious frame added to your window, and you had a beautiful frame to your outdoors? Get a color that makes you happy and makes you smile, and frame your window. Match the style and shade of your curtains and blinds with the main color of your carpet, bed frame, and walls.

Let the Light In and Control Shades
For a good night’s sleep, it is important that you are not distracted by the outside noise or light. While you might want to soak in the bright sunshine after you wake up, you don’t want to be woken up by the light or the cars passing on the street at Mmdnight. You can get some great efficient blackout curtains and blinds installed, so you can control the amount of light you let in. At the same time, it is also important that you try to eliminate the noise by getting UPVC windows that give you a better insulation.

Get Rid of Electronics
If you have a bad habit if falling asleep at night on the TV, you have a problem. Your dream might be influenced by what you see and hear at night. Instead of watching television or Netflix in bed, get a book or listen to the radio. You might need an alarm clock or radio in your bedroom, but don’t have multiple devices just to keep you entertained. If you would like to watch TV, go to the living room. You should make the most out of the time you spend on the bed, instead of just passing time.

Sound Proof
To further reduce distractions, you might want to soundproof your bedroom, as well. There are some inexpensive methods that will improve your room’s insulation, keep you warm and block outside noises. If one of your family members works different shifts, they might be cooking downstairs while you're trying to fall asleep. If you live in an apartment block, and your insulation is poor, you might hear every word from the conversations next door.  Install sound insulating sheets under your wallpaper, and you will notice the difference.

Beautify
What you see before you go to bed will impact your rest. Likewise, the scene that welcomes you when you first open your eyes in the morning will have an effect on your day. It is important that you make your bedroom your own, and create a safe sanctuary where you feel comfortable, protected, and at home. If you love diving, create a feature wall in your bedroom with fish and starfish. Find a suitable wall painting or covering that will make you smile every day.

Fresh Flowers and Plants
To further beautify your room, you might want to get fresh flowers and potted plants to improve the air quality and help you relax. You can have Hawaiian leis to welcome you when you arrive home from work and get changed, or a potted plant that can clear the air while you are sleeping. Plants in the window will do well like a small cactus that is easy to care for.

Motivational Art
A good way to start and endyour day could be to look at motivational quotes. You can design and order your own wall plaques with your favorite quotes or even song lyrics on. If you have a feature wall, you could apply stencil quotes and motifs, so you can create a sanctuary and a place where you can not only fall asleep but also meditate, relax and reflect on the day.

Ambient Lighting
Lighting is one of the most important features of the bedroom. It should be flexible and easy to control. Whether you're in a romantic mood, would like to read the newspaper on Sunday in bed, or curl up with a book, it needs to be adequate and suitable for your needs. Install a light that is easy to access from your bed, or get a remote control so you can adjust the brightness in the room with the touch of the button. Touch lamps are popular options in bedrooms since you don’t have to search for the switch to turn them on or off.

Whether you are feeling tired when waking up, or would like to improve your mood during the day, you will need to learn how to turn your bedroom into a sanctuary. Declutter, beautify to make sure you're feeling safe, protected, and comfortable. Install smart solutions to get the lighting and shading right, and you will notice the difference.

Those are great tips Rowena, I like declutter most, this is actually my current mood and I'm doing truly great on it lol! I had some little plants and blooms in my bedroom, I like the colors that make brighter the room. I also have the window in front of me so the sky is the first thing I check! xo

We don´t have a dedicated bedroom, our part of the house is open and so the bed is art of the living room, only separated by a few bits. That makes it a little difficult to ban electronics, light and noises.

I love all the bedrooms you featured here, Rowena! Not gonna lie...our bedroom is probably the most under decorated room in our house. I really need to change the lighting in there, and the idea of putting motivational art work also sounds pretty cool.
Thanks for the tips, chingu:)

Wonderful tips, Rowena and we are strict about no electronics in the bedroom. No phone, no tablets and definitely no tv.

Great tips and wonderful photos! I've got the worst bedroom ever - I've got a room with kitchen which is usually a normal thing in Poland especially if you buy a new flat builded in latest years and literally making it cosy is impossible
