5 Surprising Places You Forget To Clean In Your Home

We all want a clean and tidy home and while we know that we need to vacuum and mop and clean the kitchen and the bathroom regularly, there are a number of spots and tasks that tend to get overlooked. However it is important to clean these on a somewhat regular basis to make sure your house is really clean from top to bottom and more importantly, to make sure it is hygienic and free of pollutants and allergens. Here are some common housekeeping tasks and hidden spots that often get overlooked and while these generally do not need to be cleaned every time you clean but definitely need to be checked on and taken care once in a while.

1. Underneath the furniture
When we look for something under the furniture, such as a bed or sofa, we almost always notice some dust. However we frequently overlook the bottom side of the furniture. So when you're already cleaning a room, make sure to use your vacuum, broom or mop to clean the dust, spider webs, or other dirt underneath your furniture.

2. Vents
The air vent is where dust collects to be filtered outside. However, if you don't clean it for a long time, it can accumulate a lot of dust and cause the vent become stuck and not operate properly. For this reason, they should be regularly checked and thoroughly cleaned. It isn't just the vent on your HVAC unit that needs cleaning. You also need to make sure that you are cleaning your dryer vent as well. If you don’t, you could be prone to all sorts of problems including a potential fire hazard.

3. The tops of cupboards and fridges
You should not only be looking under the furniture but also on top of it. On the top, as on the bottom, is where dirt tends to accumulate. It will only become dirtier if you don't address the issue for several months. Make sure to clean the top of the refrigerator, the tops of your doors and storage cabinets, the corners of the ceiling, and so the like on a regular basis. You can use a duster with an extendable handle for hard to reach areas. You can also use a microfiber cloth to catch the dust.

4. Plants
Indoor plants are a great way to enhance the look and the feel of the home as well as to improve the air quality. Both artificial and natural plants can be dusted. You can actually easily clean live plants by placing them under a showerhead and running the water gently. For larger plants you can use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe down all of the parts and leaves. Dust silk plants with a cloth. You can also blow off the dust with a hairdryer on a cool setting.

5. Baseboards
Baseboards aka molding may be one of the most overlooked areas in our homes that we all forget to clean even though this decorative feature is present in the majority of homes. Even if we clean the floor thoroughly, the baseboards, like the floor, contain dust and grime. You will notice a significant difference if you clean your baseboards on a regular basis and your rooms will appear cleaner almost immediately.
