We all want to lead healthy lifestyles. The healthier our lifestyle is, the better we can feel about ourselves and the better our bodies can function. Sometimes achieving this is easier said than done. All too often, we can be tempted by unhealthy options, as they taste good, have ingredients that make us crave them or because they’re just more easily accessible or cheaper than healthy options. It’s important that we try steer clear of options that aren’t good for our overall wellbeing and make the effort to switch to options that are. It can be all too easy to consume drinks that have low or no nutritional value.  Here are some suggestions for how to make healthier beverage choices.

Juices and Smoothies
Some great drinks to incorporate into your daily routine are juices and smoothies. Consuming five portions of fruit or vegetables a day can help us to fuel our bodies with the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients it needs while lowering the risk of chronic diseases. Juices and smoothies offer a simple, straightforward and delicious way of getting a significant number of portions into our bodies quickly and easily. If you make your own juices and smoothies from scratch, you can monitor what goes into them and make sure that they are comprised of quality fruits and vegetables, blended with water or healthy alternatives like oat milk or coconut water. Whether you opt for a green juice, an anti inflammatory drink or a berry smoothie, you’ll find that you can get a huge energy and vitamin boost. You do need to be mindful when it comes to juices and smoothies. Store bought options often contain unnecessary added sugars, artificial ingredients or unhealthy preservatives. Also try to use a straw when drinking your smoothies, as breaking down whole fruits releases sugar earlier in the digestive process and can damage your teeth.

Alcohol Free Options
If you go out for drinks with friends, you may want to consider alcohol free options on the menu. Nowadays, there are plenty of choices available when it comes to alcohol free alternatives. For example, most menus will feature mocktails instead of cocktails, or alcohol free beers. Reducing alcohol intake can significantly improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Sugar Free Options
There are just way too many drinks loaded with unnecessary sugars and empty calories. Too much sugar can result in issues such as obesity, dental issues and premature aging, so it’s wise to keep your sugar intake under control.Try seltzers instead of sugary sodas. And you'll be amazed at the difference it makes when you cut additional sugars out of hot drinks such as tea, coffee or hot chocolates. It may take some time for your palate to get used to this, but it will eventually adjust and you won't even miss the extra sugar.

It's not that difficult to make better choices when it comes to your drinks and these small changes will also go a long way to improving your overall wellbeing.

So true about the amount of sugar in today's drinks, chingu:( So depressing. My kids love these sugary stuff and it drives me bonkers! I keep telling them they might not see the harm now but when they are older....sigh...And yes to smoothies for sure. It's a great way to get everyone to have their fruits and veggies. The kids like these too, thank God! :)
