Wow did October just fly by or what?

Reading...
Glamour is a fascinating concept that can be interpreted in a number of ways. While the effects of glamour are universal, often what specifically evokes it is unique to each individual. This book offers a thought provoking and comprehensive guide on the history and subject of glamour. The author refers to glamour as a seductive cultural force whose magic stretches beyond the stereotypical spheres of fashion or film, influencing our decisions about what to buy, where to live, which careers to pursue, where to invest, and how to vote. The result is myth shattering: a revelatory theory that explains how glamour became a powerful form of nonverbal persuasion, one that taps into our most secret dreams and deepest yearnings to influence our everyday choices. I'm glad I bought this book as it is very interesting and has some beautiful photography to illustrate the points.

Watching...
An adaptation of the 2009 American movie 17 Again, this romantic comedy/fantasy drama tells the story of a man whose life and marriage is falling apart. After his wife asks for a divorce, he regrets how his life has turned out and wishes to be young again. He transforms into his 18 year old self with his 38 year old mind.  This drama is full of heart and humor and a very important lesson on not losing sight of what is truly important in life. I really like how it shows that marriage isn't always love and sunshine and for one to succeed requires work from both partners. The entire cast is solid but Lee Do Hyun is exceptionally stellar and gives a convincing performance mixed with gravitas and lightheartedness of a father of two trapped in a teenager's body.

Watched...
Based on a novel, this is a dark fantasy drama about a witch who runs a restaurant that sells magical dishes which grants wishes in exchange for the customer's giving up something meaningful to them. This was a short 8 episode drama that was enjoyable in the way it presents ordinary people going through difficult time in their lives and the way the lessons they learn from the wishes they make.

Eating...
My Vegetables
We're fans of vegetables in our house so I'm always trying to find new recipes and ways to enjoy them. This crispy kale, brussels sprouts, and potato hash recipe has been on a regular rotation lately. It's so delicious and can be easily modified. I like switching out the potato for sweet potato. I'll add in other vegetables we have in the house like broccoli, cauliflower. Quinoa and black beans also make good additions for protein.

Drinking...
Miso Soup
I love miso soup and recently I've been obsessed with this Roasted Garlic Miso Soup with Greens from the Simple Veganista that is made even better with the addition of garlic and kale which are great anti-inflammation foods packed with amazing flavor. I modified the recipe a little when I made this, adding tofu and omitting the red pepper flakes and lemon. I think I'll be making this a lot during the colder months.

Trying...
I love supplementing my skincare routine with skincare devices and I'm currently trying out an LED Light Therapy Mask that Sculpt Skin Bar kindly sent me. This device features 113 LED Lights with 10 levels of light intensity that power 7 therapeutic light treatments. Depending on the treatment, benefits include increased radiance and revitalization, boosting collagen and restoring elasticity to shrinking pores and diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and spots. It can also diminish acne and scarring. Wearing it takes a little getting used to but it's lightweight enough so it's not bothersome. I haven't tried out all the treatments yet. I'm most partial to the Yellow which promotes lymphatic drainage and skin detoxification and the Laser White light that penetrates deep into the skin to help activate your skin’s natural renewal system to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin while also restoring a younger and healthier complexion.

Writing...
Letters
I've been corresponding with some friends via handwritten letters and have rediscovered the pleasures of writing letters and doing this also allows me practice my cursive writing which is something I rquite enjoy doing these days.

Wearing...
I've made a conscious effort to try to support brands that are committed to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices in their production and I also happen to love the modern feminine and colorful aesthetic of this chic French brand. This sparkly red number is my third BA&SH dress and I know it will be one I can wear for years to come.

A little personal update: My health has been mostly fine but I saw my eye doctor yesterday and found out that I may need eye surgery because my eyes have narrow angles that can cause high pressure. It was described to me like a young person's glaucoma. Fortunately the corrective procedure sounds relatively minor and is a permanent solution. I don't need to have it immediately so I have time to coordinate with my husband so he can go with me.

Stay tuned for holiday gift guides next week!

I've watched 18 again so many times and it still feels fresh to me. my current mood is trying to sectionalize my time appropriately because work seems to be taking over that I literally feel overwhelmed and exhausted most times.
