Fresh off the success of The Glory, Lee Do Hyun exudes coolness and charisma on dual covers and in the pages of Cosmopolitan Korea. Modeling a selection of fine jewelry from luxury brand Bulgari, the handsome actor highlights the elegance of the pieces with his poses. I really like how they styled the jewelry with casual attire as well as more dressed up outfits as the denim looks are easily the most striking.
Do Hyun has firmly established himself as an actor to watch while building up an increasingly impressive body of work. Like Song Hye Kyo, he also took on a new challenge with his acting in The Glory, playing Joo Yeo Jeong, an enigmatic plastic surgeon who helps Moon Dong Eun carry out her plan of revenge against her high school bullies. Some people have said that his character seemed out of place because he appeared in some of the lighter moments in a drama that was otherwise dark but it made sense in the context that he was one of the few rays of light in the protagonist's life. I will say without giving too much away that Yeo Jeong is integral to Dong Eun's revenge plot. And even though Do Hyun was playing a character older than he is in real life, he had the gravitas to pull it off just as he was convincing as a father in his mid 40's of 2 teenagers in 18 Again.
In the accompanying interview, he talks about how there was a level of mystery in the script and the challenge of maintaining a sense of balance to portray a character whose sense of duality is gradually revealed. He stressed that discussions with his leading lady, the director, and the screenwriter were crucial to make sure they were all on the same page. He also expressed an admiration for Hye Kyo's acting, observing that "I’ve learned a lot from her. Screen acting is different from stage acting, where there are a lot of restrictions on movement because the camera angle is fixed. It was always difficult for me to move as little as possible but to extract the maximum energy within the shot. Song Hye Kyo is an actress who is really good at that. Even when she doesn't express herself in any particular way, her emotions come through. This is a bit contradictory, but I thought, ‘She is a real acting master.'” I hope the people who criticized Hye Kyo's acting see this and realize that her placid performance was appropriate for a character who maintained a high level of control over her emotions to stay focused on her goal of revenge. We can look forward to seeing Do Hyun again next month in The Good Bad Mother with Ra Mi Ran where he will be Kang Ho, a.prosecutor who reverts back to being a child suffers following an unexpected accident. I have a feeling this show is going to be both heartwarming and am emotional tearjerker.
