Through My Lens : A Snow Day In NYC

NYC Winter, City Hall New York, Blizzard of 2015

So on Monday night, New York City like most of the Northeast braced itself for the winter storm known as Juno or snowpocalypse 2015 as some people were calling it. Well no records were broken with the snowfall totals as we got just less than 10 inches which is fine by me. Much of the city remained shut down early on the next day as the sanitation dept. worked to clear up the streets and the transit dept. slowly restored our mass transportation systems. I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood to see how it fared and I brought my camera with me. I'm rather fond of days like this in the city because there's such a tranquil beauty to it that almost makes me feel like I have the place all to myself. Yes those are the court buildings and steps that you may have seen in many television and film productions that are set in NYC. As I've mentioned before, I have a love/hate relationship with the white stuff.

Does it snow where you live? How do you feel about it?

Yes, it snows where I live although not every year. I am not a fan of it and can't wait for spring to come.

All that snow...goodness!! Keep warm my dear, we suppose to get snow, but I doubt it will be anything like this and if it is, it usually goes away after a day to two. Looks so cold, but I sill love the buildings :))) xxx

It used to snow a lot when I was a kid but in the last few years winter is more like spring here. But I am used to the snow, although I don't really like it. I have never seen NYC streets so empty on a photo! You captured the city so well, Rowena! I can understand what is like to live in a city that never sleeps and to have an opportunity to see it that empty!

No it doesn't snow where I live, it just gets really, really hot. Unbearably hot. I didn't think I could fall more in love with New York but your photos have made my heart skip beats. <3 Snow has that effect on me.

Oh my Rowena, have seen some images on TV and I thought of you, you know. Hope you are staying warm and safe. The photos are outstanding, there is so much white and peace all around, I think I have a love for white stuff but just cause Im not used to the snow, I imagine when you have to live with it, could be a trouble. I hope you will feature NYC again, is always gorgeous to admire. Take care dear and keep you warm, hugs xo

Such lovely shots, Rowena:) Your snowmageddon was all over the news here. I think it's on the Maritimes now. Can't believe the subway system was closed for you guys!

I think New York looks better like this (maybe it's just you're awesome photography). I like how the snowy buildings and lack of crowds make it seem very European.

I love the photographs you captured! I actually had to go into work (boo), but it was kind of nice how peaceful and empty the streets were.

I love your pictures, Rowena, the photography is just stunning. No snow on my side but it's also the reason why hubby wanted us to live in this small town. The winter is extremely mild here, the lowest temperature it went down to was -2 Celsius for a couple of days and now it's averaging at 10 Celsius and above.

Your photos are stunning! Snow was forecast for this area of the UK but all is clear so far. Everything looks so pretty with a dusting of snow as you have shown here. I love looking at snow but hate driving in it.
Fortunately it doesn't snow too often here.

10 inches seems like a lot to me but I guess it's not much to you as I'm sure you've seen a lot more. What is the most you've gotten living there? The photos you took are gorgeous!

I always love to see your photography posts! It seldom snows here and I too have a love/hate relationship with the snow. It's more love right now but only because distance makes the heart grow fonder...if it happened to snow and that for more than a week, I'll be cursing the stuff:)

Beautiful pictures! I don't mind snow around the holidays, but by the end of January, I am ready for spring :)

Beautiful!! I actually read this at midnight, and showed my mom later today at the dinner table...because...I get excited about snow. No snow up here in Toronto yet, and frankly, I'm sad because it just doesn't feel like winter this year! It is supposed to snow tomorrow, so hopefully all will the rectified and I will have several feet of snow!! (A GIRL CAN DREAM!)

Some storm that was for NYC :P
Love the photos! I think it's probably safe to say many in the city have a love/hate relationship with snow

I love the snow until I have to shovel it or drive in it. It's so pretty when you're just walking around and most people have decided to stay indoors. We had two feet in the city and almost three feet at my house. I loved the day off of work but snow blowing....yay....

I can understand your love/hate relationship with snow, but I've got to hold my hands up and admit I adore the white stuff! The first sighting when waking up, opening the curtains and seeing a blanket of snow over my garden is just heaven .. I'm still crossing my fingers for some snowfall this winter (the rest of Britain is getting plenty though haha)! I love your photography by the way, I've saved this post on Bloglovin' because it's just so flipping beautiful! Have a lovely remainder of the week :)

Hi Rowena,

I was getting a little worried, hearing all the news and hype about the blizzard and storm via CNN of late, and been wishing that you all at NYC are keeping safe and warm (turns out I have quite a few blogger friends now whom I follow are from the same city as yours) and they have been quite quiet over at IG *_^ Must be the weather!

Am glad to see here that it is not as alarming as expected before and you managed to capture the "after" of it all, in full view. Guess you live very close to the city then?

Oh yes, those courthouse steps definitely looks familiar from all the TV series that we watch here, haha! Finally get to see them for "real" here.

Thanks for sharing. Hope things will clear off soon and everyone's life will be back to normal and business as usual. I do see your point of having a love/hate relationship with this white stuff, I guess I can only fully comprehend it when I visit or stay in a snowy place. As for now, we can only dream of such views!

Have a great week, my friend.

Cheers,
Jeann

Such beautiful pictures! It doesn't snow here, well maybe once in a blue moon.
I used to travel for work to Colorado and have been caught in some of those snow storms. Those aren't fun at all, but a little bit of snow, I can handle that :)

Wow, downtown is eerie but tranquil! Seriously, I love quiet days too and it's hard to find that in Manhattan. I'm glad it worked out for everyone in NY though (well maybe except the parents!)
