I've embraced minimalism in many aspects of my lifestyle and I've managed to scale back to a minimal makeup routine that is just 6 product but when it comes skincare, I can't quite give up my multi-step regimen which currently includes any number of masks, ampoules, essences, serums and creams. And while I generally enjoy the routine, to be honest, there are some times when I wouldn't mind just slapping on one or two products and being done. I mean less is more right with most things right? Why can't it also be that way with skincare?
Shortlist Beauty is a new premium skincare brand that takes a less is more approach and they want to provide a simple remedy to complex skincare with a range consisting of just two products. Yes two. Not only that, the products themselves are formulated with a minimum number of ingredients possible. The brand did extensive research and took only the most effective active ingredients, removing all fillers and unnecessary extras, to create two transformative products. These are zero filler formulas made without any parabens, sulfates, colorants, fragrances, or mineral oils that work to repair damaged skin and help prevent aging. And they are designed to work for ALL skin types and ethnicities.
Shortlist products have three proven main active ingredients to deliver the best results in the shortest span of time. Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B, brightens and helps strengthen the skin, improving its moisture barrier. Retinyl propionate works to decrease the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and also evens out skin tone. Hyaluronic acid is a moisturizer that holds more than 1,000 times its water weight and revitalize skin for a softer and smoother appearance.
Shortlist Serum
(30ml // $34)
The Serum takes a dual approach delivering short and long-term results. Short-term, it starts to work immediately to provide moisture and repair dry damaged skin. Over time, skin cells become re-energized allowing it to look and feel younger with more elasticity and firmness. Usage of the Shortlist Serum prepares the skin for the Cream.
Key Ingredients
Niacinamide (vitamin B3): Helps to strengthen skin’s moisture barrier
Glycerin: Provides long-lasting moisture.
Hyaluronic acid: A moisturizing ingredient that can hold more than 1000 times its weight in water
Full Ingredient List
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Tapioca Starch, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Acrylates/Vinyl Isodecanoate Crosspolymer, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide
Shortlist Cream
(48 g // $34)
The Cream is a pro-retinol moisturizing cream that also provides both short and long-term results. Short-term, the cream works to rejuvenate skin by increasing surface cell turnover. Over time, it will noticeably diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles as moisture encourages surface cellular repair and reverses the visible signs of aging. Shortlist Cream is unique in that it only contains 9 ingredients.
Key Ingredients
Retinyl propionate: Diminishes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone
Glycerin: Provides long-lasting moisture
Full Ingredient List
Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Retinyl Propionate (Vitamin A), Ceteraryl Glucoside, Sodium Polyacrylate Starch, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylhydroxamic Acid
Considering the average skincare product has over 30 ingredients, it's refreshing that Shortlist products have only 11 and 9 respectively. I just started using this less is more system and I'm excited and a little anxious about streamlining my skincare routine down to just two products. I know that stepping away from a nightly routine with a dozen steps will be an adjustment but at the same time, I'm looking forward to the time it will save. Of course my chief concern will be whether this duo can maintain my skin while addressing my issues. At the same time, knowing that these products use ingredients that have worked well for my skin gives me some measure of confidence. Stay tuned because I will be updating my journey in an upcoming post. Learn more about Shortlist.

Interesting. I've been looking to change up my entire routine. I've used REN for near a decade now but I feel like my skin has changed and what I've been using just isn't cutting it anymore. I'm trying out that holy grail Eve Lom cleanser, I've only just started it and I love it, but I think my skin might be reacting to it (it's either that or another product). But I'm still looking for a good moisturiser and eye cream that's going tackle aging. That's been my biggest concern lately.

Less is more indeed, Ive embraced the motto even on my skin routine as well and have to say my skin just got benefits. I didnt know this brand but Id like to try it for sure, the serum seems so great! Happy Monday Rowena! xo
The brand name caught my attention interesting product.
Oh wow! That short ingredient list for the products really is quite amazing, Rowena. Thanks for the heads up about this brand. Anything with niacinamide is A-OK with me:) My routine has not really changed much since that post I did about the skin care routine when I got severe acne. Frankly, I'm kinda scared to change anything:( I always am up for anything that would cut my routine short because lazy....
This is such an interesting topic, thanks for sharing these products :)
Minimalism as a way of life is certainly an interesting concept...it is something that can be applied to many aspects of life, including cosmetics & skin care.
This brand sounds great...interesting how this products are made to ensure results in a short(er) time period...that must be great because nobody loves to wait for them:).
I really like the bottling and I also like that it's just two products. You can get so much from a good serum.

But how do you cleanse? I would happily use two products that work, and both sound lovely, but I wouldn't want to miss the cleansing.

This was the first thing that came into my mind too!
Anne has already asked the question that I had in mind so I won't repeat myself. I look forward to your update, Rowena! I really like how short their ingredient list is so I really hope they deliver great results.
Love.
Oh I LOVE this concept! I think more brands should so this. And yes looking forward to the update. Going to keep this band in mind for sure.

Love the aesthetics of the Shortlist! I like that the set utilizes classic yet proven ingredients. On top of cleansing routine, using just one each in morning and evening routines would be like a dream for me, actually.
Have a great week, Rowena. :)
Lovely packaging! Love to have these too, dear! xoxo
I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on these products, as well as how your skin copes with cutting down to just a couple of skincare products! Beautiful photography as always, Rowena.

Does it mean there is no cleansing? Or am I just too blond? I know you do double cleansing, Rowena, at least you did, I do triple cleansing, so a no cleansing at all would save me time BUT I would feel also very uncomfortable, if you know what I mean.

I'm quite bad with skincare. I always moisturiser but sometimes use a few extra products. This range looks stunning and the packaging just screams high end!

What a pretty product! It's great that this has minimal ingredients, which is why I've been using more organic skincare the past few years. Just as you though, I definitely love my masks! :-) Happy weekend, Rowena!
