Sometimes It Snows In April

Cherry Blossoms, Spring in NYC, Cherry Blossoms in Snow, April Snow, Spring Snow, Sometimes It Snows In April

If you follow me on Instagram, you might've seen this photo I posted a few weeks ago on the second day of Spring of some cherry blossoms covered in snow. It was a sublime scene and one of my favorites that I've taken this year but it's also a little unsettling at the same time because this should not be happening. And then it snowed again this past Monday on the second day of April which bummed me out in more ways than one since the Yankees had to postpone their home opener due to the weather. Anyway this gave me a chance to do a photo study of the cherry blossoms in the snow. We have a lovely garden downstairs in our complex and there is this one tree that always blooms before the others. I hope it's more Spring-like wherever you are. Sure there's no such thing as global warming...

Pro tip for shooting snow scenes: It's best to underexpose by a quarter to a half stop to compensate for the stark brightness the white color of the snow creates especially if your scene is backlit. This will help preserve the details as well as prevent your photos from being blown out.

Even though I agree and snow in April isn´t something I want to experience, you picture is so beautiful it makes me sad I wasn´t there to see it myself. Thank you for sharing that perfect moment.

I know so crazy, and then I bet the temps shoot up, we are probably going straight from winter to summer. These photos are lovely, truly. And thanks for the shooting tip. This makes sense!

These photos are so beautiful! I've seen lots of cherry blossom, but never in the snow before! It's so pretty, even if it's not the kind of spring weather you'd like! :)

Hope you are having a great week so far! Been a wet week here, but still not too cold :)

Beautiful photography. Those blossoms do look stunning contrasted with snow, but I can understand that it taking images like these can be bittersweet as it doesn't feel natural to have snow in April. We had snow for the first day of Spring and it felt very surreal. The climate change is very real. Global warming & industrial pollution have caused this planet much harm. From what I've been reading lately, a lot of scientists are saying that we're also heading toward another ice age. Supposedly it should have already started but the global warming has temporary postponed it.

It is dark times we live in, with so much pollution, overpopulation and environment issues and still no sign of solution on the horizon.

What a stunning capture, Rowena. Spring is no where to be seen on my side, we had a few days of sun and it has been rain for more than a week now. And yes, no such thing as global warming indeed....ugh!

The photos you took Rowena are absolutely breathtaking. You always capture everything so beautifully. When I saw the weather in the North I thought of you. It's crazy! We had a cool snap for a day! We just don't have true seasons anymore. It's sad.

We had some crazy weather as well. Sunshine then snow, cold spells. It's a bit chilly again today after a few days of warm weather. We're so ready for constant warmth!
