Should I Start A Blog?

Starting A Blog, Blogging tips

In need of a new hobby? Maybe this lockdown is really starting to make you bored now, or perhaps you were already in a bit of a rut before that and looking try something new. Blogging is ideal since it doesn't require much in the way of startup costs, can easily be done from home, and is the kind of venture you can set up and get rolling with with pretty much right away. Here are some reasons why you should start your own blog.

It’s a chance to be creative
Many of us work in jobs that seriously limit our creativity. We have set tasks that we do each day, and in all honesty things can become quite tedious as we get ourselves into a rut. Ask yourself, when was the last time you did something creative and really used your mind? For many people, it won’t be since they left education years ago. Blogging is a great way to be creative, from coming up with a concept for your Blogger or WordPress website design with a professional to brainstorming topics to taking photos and writing.

You can make new friends
Making friends as an adult can be difficult. Many of us drift apart from people we grew up with, and while we work to maintain old friendships it can be hard to make new ones. When you’re no longer at a stage in your life where you’re out at parties and social gatherings every weekend, you’re limited to the people that you ever come in contact with. Blogging opens you up to a whole community of like minded people, and with blogger events and meetups to attend, it’s not uncommon for friends online to become friends in person.

It can open up new opportunities
We’d all like to earn money in a fun and flexible way, and blogging presents a way that allows you to do exactly this. From product reviews to paid advertising, sponsored posts and events, if you continue with your blog and work hard,  all kinds of opportunities can open up. It’s completely flexible so you can blog in your spare time and do it around work, childcare and any other commitments that you have in your life.

It looks good on your CV
Even if you’re not looking for a new job right now, no one knows what the future holds. If you want to get another job in the future, know that a blog looks great on your resume. It shows an employer that you have a hobby that you’ve maintained, that you’ve likely developed a number of skills relating to it too. Some of these include social networking and writing for an audience which many employers will covet.
